Wow, what an incredible experience! We arrived a little earlier in the afternoon and were seated right away. The service was excellent! Our server kept our glasses full, checked in regularly, and was very attentive throughout the meal. We started with a complimentary papadum appetizer, which was a nice touch. For our mains, we ordered a chicken chetinad curry (I'm pretty sure that's the name), chicken tikka masala (our favorite) and garlic chili naan, which was an absolute hit. To finish, we enjoyed a delicious rice pudding. Everything was flavorful and perfectly prepared. Overall, a wonderful dining experience, we can't wait to come back next time we're on the east side.

Finally found tasty and affordable Indian in upper east side after my kitchen for decades, agra Lexington was gone after covid. Very good food- you should try. Prices are affordable. Some of upper east side Indian are very expensive and not for everyone but this one is. Ambience is not lux but great for friends and family.

After reviewing three other Indian food locations in the area we settled on Spice Mantra due to them having Butter Chicken while the others did not. We came on a Friday around 5:30 to a fairly open seating, while time went on the space did fill up with folks coming in with reservations. Service was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable.....never an empty water glass. We ordered the Butter Chicken at medium hot which was pretty hot, it did not take from the flavor tho. Samosas came packed full and given to us strait from the fryer. So far one of the better Indian cuisines I've been to while in NYC.

I've passed this place so many times in the neighborhood. I was looking for a replacement place for Amma which we dearly miss. Spice Mantra was an unassuming non de script on the outside. It was daily crowded Thursday might at 7pm. We got the chicken tikka masala which was creamy and tasty we asked for mild, sag paneer, which had nice texture and garlic Nan.. the ambiance was sort of dark and romantic, a well stocked bar and the service was friendly and accommodating. Happy to have this little gem in the hood.

came as a party of 4 on a sunday night! the place was packed! as a result, service was a bit on the slower side, from dishes coming out to paying the bill. the food was good! we tried the lamb roganjosh, malai kofta, saag paneer and chicken tikki masala and gobi manchurian as an appetizer. everything was very yummy but nothing was exceptional. overall, would probably try another place!

Been here numerous times since my last review and still never been disappointed. The flavors are amazing and I love the indo Chinese food! The waiters are courteous and friendly, they are good at assisting with filling water/clearing dishes but also not too much in your face. Last night they gave us some rice pudding on the house for fun which was a nice touch!

When it comes to eclectic cousins it's hard to pick one place. So when someone asks me what is your favorite restaurant in NYC? My answer is that I don't have one I have a favorite dish that I go to specific restaurant for. Hands down BEST VINDALOO in the island of Manhattan and when I say BEST I meant it. I tried every vindaloo there is in manhattan, if not at the restaurant then as take out. Spicy Mantra does it too well, I like mine with dark chicken meat, yes they don't have it on the menu, just ask and they will whip up some for you. It's creamy, it's vinegary, it's right amount of heat and spicy just delicious. You have the tingle of the heat yet you feel the richness of all the spices coming together. Every time I come here I feel like I'm coming back home, the stuff is so welcoming and attentive, well they remember me and know my order. I love it here, nice, casual, attentive and clean. And the chef knows what he is doing! If you looking for some good Indian Food, come give them a try and you will leave full and happy and definitely will be back

Such a large portion for only $20! The rice was literally overflowing and I could only finish about half. The amount of chicken was also very generous, it was such a filling meal.

We thought Spice Mantra was one of the best Indian restaurants in the area. The kormas and naans were excellent, with proportional meal sizes in a lovely, low-key restaurant. It's a definite must if you are in this part of midtown.

However, we never really got to it, having been busy exploring the Semmas and Bungalows of the city. On a cold Saturday evening my partner and I decided to give Indian Accent a shot - got rather last minute reservations over the phone. They were kind enough to accommodate us for a 7 pm slot, and once we got there we were seated immediately. We chose the four course menu, and found each course to be better than the one before! The shorba (soup) and garlic kulcha amuse bouche was a nice touch to get things started - loved the tiny terracotta mugs. Proceeded onto the shakarkandi chaat and the chilly pork roti - the former reminding me of the delectable street food in Delhi winters with the latter being a very good Indian rif on birria tacos. The star of the show for me was the Tofu medu vada - so unique and flavorful and melt in the mouth! I've not had anything quite like it before. My partner had the wagyu kebab that he said was excellent! For mains we had the chicken malai and the paneer - both tasty, but by this point we were already so full, and had to get most of the mains to go. But because there's always room for dessert, for our final course we scarfed down doda barfi with ice-cream and sticky toffee banana pudding - both of which were finger licking delish! Our service was great too - Ty our server was so nice and had the best recommendations. I'd have never gone for the tofu medu vada among all the other options and he urged me to, and it really turned out to be the highlight of my meal. The cocktails were good too. All in all, I think this is such a nice upscale Indian dining spot for a night out in the city. Having tried most of the other trending newer spots, i think Indian Accent sits right among the top! I'd highly recommend and cannot wait to be back!

I believe there are other Indian Accent locations in India, and was excited to try their NYC spot. We went on a weekend evening around 5pm and had a really enjoyable experience overall. Nice ambiance inside, didn't feel overly packed where we were sitting. Service was great for the most part. Shane, our main server, stood out and he was SUPER helpful in walking us through the menu and making thoughtful suggestions. That said, it's definitely a team-service setup, so multiple staff members will assist your table throughout the meal. Everyone had great energy and made the experience feel polished. We did the prix fixe menu and went with 3 courses each across our group of 3. Two of us opted for the "midis" and one went for dessert, but we ended up sharing everything. Even though the portions initially seem small, we were surprisingly full by the end. One important note: go into this with an open mindset. This is not your typical, "generic" Indian food experience - it's much more modern, creative, and experimental. We did a lot of research before deciding what to order, so here's what we got/ordered: Amuse bouche (complimentary): A pumpkin shorba (soup) served in a cute little cup and blue cheese naan. Both were a great start, and we actually asked for more of the shorba. They said they'd bring it, but it never came, which was a bit disappointing, but still appreciated the palate cleanser concept. Appetizers (ordered 3): * Phulka jackfruit: Kind of like a taco - really nice flavor with these crispies on it and a nice sauce. * Kashmiri morel mushrooms: I'm not usually a mushroom person, but this was excellent. Loved the creamy base and overall flavor. * Potato sphere chaat: Probably the weakest of the three. It was more sev than potato, and didn't quite hit for me. Midis (ordered 2): * Yogurt kebab: Very interesting texture with a nice chutney base * Sweet pickle pork: I didn't personally try it, but the other two in my group loved it Mains (ordered 3): * Sweet corn vadai: Really unique and flavorful - one of the standouts * Paneer kofta: Not my favorite; different from what I expected * Chicken tikka meatballs: Surprisingly good! I don't usually love meatballs, but these had a great texture and flavor Accompaniments (ordered 3): * Butter chicken kulcha: Easily my favorite - would come back just for this, but note it can be a little "greasy" * Daal with black garlic naan: The naan was unique with a slightly sweet taste; the daal could've used a bit more depth * Chana masala kulcha: A little spicy but still very flavorful Dessert (ordered 1 + 1 complimentary): * Banana sticky date cake: A lovely, satisfying end to the meal * Makhan malai (complimentary for a birthday in our group): Very airy and unique texture - not really for us personally, but appreciate the team supporting our birthday celebration We skipped drinks even though the menu is extensive - we wanted to focus on the food Overall, I really liked this place. The dishes were a mix - nothing was outright bad (except maybe the makhan malai for our taste), but not everything was a hit either. Still, it's a fun, elevated dining experience with creative takes on Indian cuisine. I'd definitely go back, especially for the butter chicken kulcha. Only real miss was the forgotten re-order of the amuse bouche, but otherwise service and vibes were strong.

A little corner of London magic right here in Hell's Kitchen!…read more If you've ever stood on a rainy London street, desperate for a bowl of proper Northern Indian food, you can stop romanticizing -- Jaz Indian Cuisine on Hell's Kitchen has that exact magic, and it's right here in Manhattan. The star of the show is Jaz herself -- the owner, hostess, and bartender all rolled into one wonderfully warm, charming British woman who somehow makes you feel like you've been a regular for years within thirty seconds of walking through the door. She's the kind of host who remembers how you like your chai and makes the whole room feel like her living room. Now, the food. The Chana Masala is deeply spiced, rich with tomato and chickpeas, the kind of dish that makes you question every mediocre version you've had before. The Saag is silky, fragrant, and genuinely soulful -- spinach that actually tastes like something. And the Onion Kulcha? Pillowy, caramelized, absolutely yummy -- the kind of bread you'll be tearing into long after you're full. The flavors here are the real thing -- bold, layered, and unapologetically authentic. This isn't watered-down, please-everyone Indian food. This is the genuine article, executed with care and a distinctly British-Indian sensibility that you rarely find outside of London. Every dish tastes like someone's nana's recipe, if that nana happened to be a brilliant chef. Do yourself a favor: add some spice to your life and get yourself to Jaz Indian Cuisine.
