(Came back to add the rice tastes like the pan was dirty). 3. The plantains had a strange taste and texture. They were dry and completely flavorless. 4. The beef--oh my. It was tough, bland, and served in a ridiculously small portion. I need to emphasize the portion size again--it was tiny. When I cut the beef in half and took a bite, I immediately realized it wasn't good. I went to the counter and politely asked if I could swap the beef for fish instead. I was told "No."--unless I paid for an entirely new plate. The reason? Because I had already taken a bite. Well, yes, I had--how else would I know it was bad? Overall, this place deserves zero stars. They didn't have any drinks available either. The customer service was poor--they simply didn't care whether I was satisfied or not. They got their $35, and that was the end of it. We won't be back, and we'll make sure our friends and family know this place is not worth their time or money. As for the ambiance--it was clean, but it was clear they don't get many customers. Now I understand why.

I ordered the jollof rice with tilapia on Sunday, and the fish came undercooked and watery . Not long after eating, I got painfully food sick for two days. I did choose to eat from the Zion Kitchen menu which on the day, I regretted. I am not a big African cuisine consumer so I wasn't aware that it was going to be HOT. The menu didn't mention everything was going to be hot. It was so hot that I let it touch my tongue only twice and then told them to bag it. I did request some rice because I figure if I ever do get the courage to eat it, the rice will help. Everything is a-la-carte and if you don't know to order something, you just have a very sad meal. The menu hints at telling you, you should order all 3 parts but you could expect your stew to have something in it but it will not. Your stew is a soup or better yet a broth of sorts. You have to also order a starch and a protein unless of course you only want the blazing hot broth. Not only was it spicy, it was scolding hot which amplifies the spice. Once I got it home and warmed it up the next day, I added some honey to it to cut the heat and it worked perfectly. I'm sure it did however change the intended taste but if the intended taste is fire, that's not my cup of tea. Also, there wasn't a lot of meat on the things that I ordered but the "beef" was good. I tried the combo but that had a little piece of beef and cow foot which is a type of fat that you have to bite off the bone and then something that was similar in texture to the fat on the cow feet but I think it was ... I don't even remember what it was. It wasn't bad but it wasn't meat.

It's only about a five minute drive away, so the location worked out great. This was everyone's first time trying Kenyan food and we were all blown away. The flavors were rich, comforting, and beautifully balanced. We ordered several appetizers to share and then entrees including the salmon, oxtail, goat, and snapper. Everything at the table was delicious. Our server Diamond was wonderful. She was warm, helpful, and really guided us through the menu since we were new to the cuisine. Her service made the experience even better. Such a great introduction to Kenyan food and a really fun group dinner. We will absolutely be coming back.

Started with a Margarita cocktail which was $16.00 and terrible. Low grade tequila and store bought margarita sour mix. Service was very slow and one of the mangers was drinking and having a long conversation with the bartender. We decided to try the Jollof Rice and Suya bites. The rice was very bland. The Suya had some flavor but seemed to be missing something. I decided to take the leftovers home but unfortunately the Suya bites got very hard overnight so were not enjoyable the next day. Since eating out is pricey you may want to choose a different restaurant to try.

Ah ah so THIS is what we are doing now in the DMV? A whole WEST AFRICAN BUFFET??…read more Listen ehn, I have been to Jollof Etc before for regular dinner so I already knew the standard of food there is not play play. But seeing them attempt this buffet concept for Valentine's Day, Easter Sunday (when I went), and now again for Mother's Day this Sunday? I actually respect the initiative Everybody is always shouting rubbish this ____, and rubbish that ___ meanwhile OUR OWN cultural foods are sitting right here in Silver Spring looking delicious and full of flavor. When I say all the staples were THERE, I mean THEY WERE THERE Amala Moi moi Pepper soup Jollof rice Fried rice Everything hot, fresh, flavorful and tasting like somebody's mother entered that kitchen with warning And can we discuss the drinks please?? Non alcoholic but SWEET, refreshing and pairing perfectly with all the food. Very family friendly atmosphere too. You can bring auntie, uncle, cousins, everybody Now let me tell the truth small because you know I don't lie for reviews The wait time? Hmmm. Table organization? They can improve that one too because people were kinda just standing around confused at moments. BUT no wahala this is still a new venture for them and honestly I can already see the vision. The most important thing for me? Their service was AMAZING and they accepted feedback very well instead of doing attitude. That part matters. I actually want to see this succeed because we need more innovative African food experiences in the DMV that push our cuisine to the forefront instead of acting like only tacos and burgers exist outside Jollof Etc Silver Spring, Maryland

It's a small, humble place--what some might call a hole-in-the-wall--but it's packed with heart, hospitality, and seriously satisfying portions. On this visit, I went with my usual favorite: Egusi with goat and jollof rice. The flavors were rich, deep, and comforting--the kind of meal that feels like a warm hug from home. The egusi was perfectly seasoned, the goat tender and well-spiced, and the jollof rice full of that signature smoky goodness that's hard to find just anywhere. Yes, the service can be a little slow--but trust me, it's worth the wait. Everything is cooked with care, and you can taste the love in every bite. The staff is warm and welcoming, making the whole experience feel personal and genuine.
