The place is far especially we came from SF. Best to go on weekdays. Bring food and drinks.

Its free, you can shoot up 300 something yards. Never had any issues with unsafe people.

Bring your own stand for your paper targets. Do not expect to shoot at anything but paper. Because of this policy, it is the single cleanest firing range I have ever used or seen! And it is free. Be a good citizen when you go, so it will be as nice for the next person as it was for you. The only thing I don't like is that you have to drive miles of unpaved washboard surface to get there and back. If you have a beat up pickup truck, definitely drive that.

Some of my collection: S&W M&P 15, S&W 9mm Shield, HiPoint C9. Love shooting these at Spenceville!!

Been going here for a couple of years but never on a weekend. Fortunately I'm retired so mid-week works perfectly for me. Never have had a problem unlike several others. Just people would pick up after themselves. Worth the drive from Sac!

I hunt Spenceville during dove season, and I've seen my share of craziness during the hunt. However, nothing prepared me for what happened at the range last Saturday. I brought my 11 YO son for a morning of plinking with our .22. We arrived early, and set up under the tree on the right side of the range so we could shoot the 50 and 75 yard berms. The couple next to us on the right were very friendly and offered to share the bench. The family to our left were also very nice--ex military guys, their wives, and son about the age of mine. The military guys were calling the all-clears and the whole line was observing the handling rules well. Then, a few lanes to our left, closer to the 25 yard berm, another family with older kids rolled up. They set up a propane tank, and some computer equipment stuffed with that exploding target powder that you see on Top Shot. They started rattling off .223 from their mini 14 and showering hot brass on our station. After a few whacks with their .308, the computers exploded, and so did the propane tank. Shortly thereafter, you could hear the whines of richochets as someone shot the propane tank at an angle and/or with a round that could not penetrate the tank. My car was backed in not more than 5 feet from where my son and I were shooting, and sometime during the shooting a round came right back through the rear glass. Check the photos. Needless to say, we packed up immediately, and so did the folks on either side of us. The glass cost over $500 to replace, but thank goodness no one was hurt or killed. Won't be back. It's too bad, because that was one of the only places I knew of to plink cans, golfballs, and other rimfire targets.

Nice table pretty clean and most people are respectful of setting up targets and calling out for all clear to fire again.

I finally decided it was time to stop being nervous and actually go to the range. After reading the reviews, I decided to check this place out, and I'm really glad I did. From the moment I walked in, the staff was friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. I told them it was my first time at the range, and they took the time to explain everything, answer my questions, and help me get set up. That made a huge difference because walking into a range as a newbie can feel a little intimidating. Once I got to my lane, I was only there for about 30 minutes, but I enjoyed every minute of it. My confidence definitely grew, and I left feeling way more comfortable than when I walked in. Overall, great first experience. Friendly staff, helpful guidance, and a welcoming environment for beginners. I'm looking forward to coming back for more practice -- and this time, I promise I won't wait another two years.

We all know, purchases / transfers in California are difficult and wrought with bureaucracy & nonsense. This shop, makes it simple and easy for you to get it done. In addition, they have a very nice indoor range with a VERY wide multitude of rental firearms. Aside from the good customer service & cool indoor range, they had an incredibly wide variety of stock for sale. I noticed they had VERY fair prices, like some firearms were easily $100-125 less a piece than the FUDD gun shops here in (510) Alameda County. I would say the top highlight of this gun shop was the lack of FUDD. I experienced & saw / heard zero FUDD nonsense. Just straight up good, solid, friendly customer service & plenty of great products to choose from. It's also noteworthy that they had a really good inventory of ammo for reasonable pricing. I'll definitely be spending some more money here. Keep it up guys!!

I came with a group of 6 and it was busy on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, the targets aren't lined up well at the 25 yard lane. All of the 50 yard lanes were occupied. We tried the 100 yard lane but it's kind of difficult cause they have a huge wood partition covering. Plenty of parking Service was nice from the lady at the counter.

I'm a careful beginner shooter, female, and I've visited many indoor and outdoor ranges across the…read moreU.S. for handguns, shotguns and rifles. Unfortunately, this was the most uncomfortable range experience I've had anywhere. The very first thing that was said to me when I arrived was that I should "join the women's club," as if I didn't belong in the same space as the men. That tone set the stage for the rest of the visit. The rules here are far beyond what I've ever seen at other ranges, and instead of feeling safe and structured, it felt unnecessarily restrictive and time-wasting. I planned to spend about an hour; it took double that because nothing is automated. There are no automatic targets -- every adjustment requires a ceasefire, then waiting again to bring your target back. You can't move your target to an intermediate distance for rifles. it's either very close or all the way downrange, and they don't let you stand up to shoot unless it is all the way downrange. I don't use a scope, so I had to sit down to shoot. During ceasefires, you're not allowed to approach the bench at all -- not to grab water, not to pick up your phone, not to adjust anything. On top of that, they have strict rules about how your guns can be stored. You can't keep them in their cases unless they are placed exactly where they want them, and staff will physically move or reposition your firearms without asking. As a beginner trying to get more comfortable with my own equipment, this did not feel like a supportive environment. The atmosphere came across as controlling and patronizing, not educational or welcoming. I had actually planned to purchase a membership when I arrived, but the process takes several days to "approve," which made no sense. I had also tried to sign up for a class beforehand and discovered they don't accept online or automatic payments -- only checks or in-person drop-offs. Between that and the outdated systems at the range, the entire operation feels very old-fashioned and unnecessarily difficult for the public to engage with. Other ranges I've visited have been friendly, modern, and willing to help beginners. This was the first time I've been told to go be with "other women," the first time I couldn't move a target with a simple button press, and the first time the environment made me feel like I didn't belong. I would not recommend this range unless you absolutely have no alternative. There are far more welcoming and modern facilities in the area for new shooters.

First time coming here and I made sure to read all the range rules. Not too different from other…read moreoutdoor ranges. The guys here were super helpful and even encouraged me to hit the farther targets. I prefer outdoor ranges to the indoor ones, but that's just me.
