Yelp reviews were spot on with this indoor range. I've been to a pretty decent amount of gun ranges, both indoor and outdoor. Things I look for in a range - safety first and foremost, how they treat first time shooters, how they treat experienced shooters, organization with check-in process (waivers, payment, etc.), how many lanes are available, and other customers' behaviors at the lanes themselves. From my experience, that last point tells me a lot about the range - if you feel safe and comfortable with the shooter next to you, it's a very responsible business with accountable staff. That's precisely how I felt at The Gun Range and why I can now call it home sweet home for all my firearm needs! No reservations. This spot is first come, first serve. Fill out waivers online to make things smoother. Weekend mornings and evenings get busy (typical for most ranges I've been to), so I went on a Friday night and my stepson and I each had our own lane in no time! There are 2 sets of lanes - one for 12 yds and another for 24 yds. I'm not used to a place without reservations needed so was a bit concerned about landing a couple of lanes, to be honest, but it was seamless! Check-in process was smooth and stress free. Owning and having all of your own necessary items certainly makes things much easier for any gun range! Confirmed that waivers were signed and online forms completed, staff walked over to check firearms were as stated on their website (unloaded, racked back, and no magazines inserted), and eye and ear protections were confirmed as well. For CCW holders, in case you want to practice drawing and firing from your holsters, just show them your CCW license so you can practice your drawing methods. Practice makes perfect! Don't have ammo? Don't own your own guns? Don't have rifles or other fantastic guns? Forgot to bring targets? No worries! The Gun Range has you covered (for a small fee, of course). I prefer Reload 9 mm FMJ ammo since they're the most affordable - they have it! You can purchase ammo to use at the range. If you want to purchase plenty of ammo to take home, they'll have to run a background check (approx 30 min). Their prices are very competitive so if you want ammo at a very fair price, look no further! They have targets to purchase ($2.50 per big target, I think?), eye and ammo protection to rent, and all sorts of fun firearms available to rent for in-range shooting. Plan to come often? Save a buck - purchase bundles of targets from Amazon and feel free to use them at the range. Pay at the end, not up front. I truly appreciate that so if you need extra targets, ammo, or want to try other firearms, the process is simple with minimal interruptions. First time shooters? They have a 3-strike rule for breaking safety measures. Here's some advice - don't let there be a first. Do your due diligence, obtain gun safety knowledge before stepping foot on any range, and read every little detail on their website to ensure you and everyone around stay safe at all times. Staff is super friendly and you can tell right away that each and every one of them know what they're doing. You pay per person - that's it! Not per hour, not per lane. What does that mean? Unlimited time for the same price, shoot from opening until closing if you wanted to - incredible! (If you can afford the ammo and have that much energy, that is.) My stepson and I ended up shooting for 2 hours in each of our own lanes... goodness gracious, we were having such a good time and would've kept going if we had unlimited ammo! They have a tremendous firearm selection and ample parking on their own lot. Service was fantastic, place is clean and well kept, location was easy to find, plenty of lanes for short and long range, safe and not overwhelming, and staff is friendly yet still attentive to keep new customers and regulars returning for an excellent experience. Highly recommended indoor shooting range for both first time and experienced shooters! I'm sold. We had an absolutely great time. I'll definitely be returning and plan to be a regular at The Gun Range!

The Gun Range has been my go-to spot for shooting in North-Sacramento for over a decade. Finding out about The Gun Range was a happy little accident, when I went to a shooting Range in Elk Grove about 10+ years ago with my some friends. And was told by one of the reps that they didn't allow any rifles larger than a .22, and slow single-fire shootings was required. Being in the parking lot of this other establishment with a group of friends, a quick online search led me to The Gun Range in North Highlands. The Gun Range allows you to bring your own firearms, which is great, especially for those who have their own. Plus they have an assortment of handguns and long guns to rent, as well as various calibers of ammo and targets. Basically all of the equipment you would need, if you didn't bring those things yourself, or possibly run out and need more. Getting in is also extremely fast and efficient, with their forms now being all electronic and sent directly to their system as you wait in line. Check-in was really fast for us since we brought out own, firearms, ammo, eye & hearing protection, and paper targets. But we later did purchase a Glock magazine speed reloaded, and a pair of disposable ear plugs. Range use was also only $26/a person which is very reasonable. The range area itself is a nice 25 yd setup, comprised of 3 rooms with about 5 lanes in each room. The targets systems have been updated since I was last here, and are on a system. That quickly and conveniently allows users to send out and return targets, with a series and buttons. The guy who checked us in also explained it really well. The staff are also extremely helpful on anf off the range. We had an issue at the very beginning with one of my long guns, so very employees came to check it out but couldn't figure it out as we all talked it through. So they go another staff member who eventually could. One of the guys who originally tried helping, later asked if I was able to get everything squared away, to which I said yes, and also thanked him for his help as well. Overall: Great indoor range, that I have frequented for over a decade. Friendly and extremely helpful staff, very reasonable pricing for lane rentals. Will be going back in the near future.

Pretty cool spot. Nice staff. A ton of selection to choose from. Great value for the time allotted. Will be returning in the near future.

This was my 1st experience at The Gun Range and I left knowing this will be the regular spot for me to go for some practice and a good time! I recently took my sister here so I could teach her some basic gun safety and shoot some pistols for the 1st time. The day before I called in for general questions regarding target shooting and 1st time shooters and was greeted with a helpful friendly person. I came in on a Friday afternoon and I was immediately helped when I entered. The staff working behind the counter helped with all questions my sister had, assisted her with finding the pistol to shoot and they showed her all the basics of the specific pistol she rented. After wrapping up with the front counter staff, we entered the range area and was greeted by the range master who helped us get setup with our 1st target. The overall experience was great. I felt like I was in a safe space and my sister really enjoyed her time. Between rentals, purchasing bullets and our lane, between the 2 of us it was $98 which I thought was a fair value. I look forward to returning and seeing what else The Gun Range has to offer!

Best gun range I have been to. Service is top notch. I recently had my Glock 17 stippled there and am very happy with the outcome. The artist who did the stippling kept me updated and just did a fantastic job. The range is great. The people who work the counters are friendly. A+ I came from the bay area and used to frequent reeds in Santa Clara. The gun range in Sacramento is just so much better.

If God made an indoor gun range, it would probably look a lot like this one $25 per person, unlimited time, great rental selection, chef's kiss

    Wife's grouping - she's getting better.

Got a couple new guns and was itching to shoot them- SA Hellcat Pro with a holoson green dot and a custom aero precision PCC 9mm that a good friend F.S. Built. Was getting late and the local ranges were all closing soon but I found this gun range on yelp that closes at 9pm! We quickly loaded up,l and filled out the required questionaire on my phone on the 45 min drive to North Highlands from Stockton. First Impressions - very well stocked and staffed gun store. Plenty of knowledgeable and friendly staff. Alex helped us and he was super friendly and knowledgeable. He got us up and running and we hit the range quickly. There were 4 of us so we got 2 stalls. The range is more than adequate with electronic controls for your targets that go out to 26 yards. It's been hot - 100+ and although there is AC in the store, the range doesn't get much. But you're shooting- who cares and if you have to go to battle in the harsh summer weather of Sac/Stockton - you'll be better prepared - training opportunity. We brought our own ammo, eyes and ears so we just paid for targets, range fees and some 3A batteries for one of our ears that was dead - NOTE keep extra batteries in your range bag. I usually do but we ran out the door and traveled light. Good to remove the batteries between shoots. Got some ammo down range and zerod in both weapons. Stall controls took a second to figure out but super easy when you do. We got there around 7:15 and shot until 8:45. Store is awesome, range is nice. Staff Was excellent. Even left them a tip. Don't know when I'll be back up that way but this is an excellent range. Head over there and get some bullets down range!

Love love this place. Came twice and honestly need to come more often to become more relaxed around guns and properly handle firearms. The value seems to be a god bang for the buck especially if you bring your own firearm, ear protection. Both times my friends had their own firearms, and ear protection so the only out of pocket costs were for bullets, the lane, and the target which all together was about $50 if I'm not mistaken. That seemed like a good deal but equally I don't have a range to compare it to (pun intended) Another great option is you can rent different firearms. Overall it's a great location to practice aim and familiarize yourself with firearm safety.

00 buck at 5 yds from Mossberg, p.s. you can't shoot bird shot here so don't bring it.

It's a pleasure coming to this range as opposed to the indoor range in Placerville and outdoor ranges, these guys don't hassle you about rapid fire or constantly look over your shoulder while you're shooting. They also have a Veteran's discount if you ask for it at checkout, you just need to show ID such as VA card. The range fee is also reasonable. Thank you guys at The Gun Range, I'll be back!

They also do stippling work and other services.

Yes. You must have your Passport, a digital version is not adequate.

They do not require Read ID to use the range.

Do I have to make an appointment or can I just walk in?

You can totally just walk in. Sometimes like at 5:30 it'll be a little bit more full, so you may have to wait for a lane, but they have so many lanes on the RARE occasion I've had to wait I've only waited like 10 minutes.

Ever since the old store manager left this store has hired the worst people and the store always looks like crap. The old manager had this location looking good, fully stocked and her team was on point and very professional. They lost the true face of 5.11 on that one. I recently went to this 5.11 location on Friday March 28th with my family to see if things changed and I was reminded for the final time why I will NEVER return again. The guy in the front said something when we walked in and never said another peep or offered to assist with anything at all the whole time we were there. That's not even what bothered me. What made me absolutely livid was when the female worker blew my father off mid-sentence when he was asking her a question about their sale and said "It just depends" with a snarky attitude and TURNED HER BACK ON HIM AND WALKED TO THE BACK OF THE STORE. I almost lit her up. I'm done with 5.11 once and for all and I know deep down many others are as well. Shame on this company for allowing such people to work there and for allowing such an environment.

The problem is the firearms counter. I have purchased a few guns there over the past 13 years, and the experience has universally been horrible. The basic tone is this: The staff's demeanor is as if they are doing you a favor by selling you something. They are quite deliberately aloof, indifferent, and they slow-walk everything they do. This occurs whether they are busy or not. Either way, it will be an agonizingly slow experience if you want help or want to purchase a firearm. They randomly chose to use or ignore their "take a number" system, and when you go in there's never any way to tell whether you should take a number or not. You can stand at the counter, waiting for help for an hour at times. Often they won't acknowledge your presence or even make eye contact. It feels as if you are offending them by even being there, and they want nothing more than for you to just go away. If you actually wish to purchase a firearm, I would recommend budgeting at least two hours in the store. Or better yet, go to another store that has some level of competent management and values their customers. That's what I'm going to do. The clearest way I can explain it? The firearms counter at Sportsman's Warehouse is exactly like trying to get help from a big city branch of the California DMV. That sums it up perfectly.
