Clear tape held the thing together and made it usable. But this was not a long term solution. While I found A2 Phone Repair with some glowing reviews on Yelp, it was the recommendation from a fellow at the AT&T Store on Washtenaw which sealed the deal. A quick phone call confirmed the screen was in stock, and produced an estimate for the price of the job and how long it would take. Drop off was a breeze. The shop was clean and professional looking. As was the fellow behind the desk. The repair took just a little longer than promised, about three hours versus two, but that was no biggie. $140 for the whole thing was worth it for my kiddo to have a phone that looked as good as new... without the hassle of setting up a new phone.

We replaced it only to find that the power cords had been changed out from the big box store working in it... which then burned up the new fan and aio cooler. It was a MESS. I have never had this many issues with any unit I had built in the past or with the big box retailer who was selling the components. After some consulting, returns/exchanges, Seth and I ordered a different brand AIO. He installed it, clean installed windows, did some cable management, and got my computer back up and running. He did much more labor due to the issues that arose throughout the process, but never raised his price above his maximum estimate. It was an incredible experience. He was very communicative throughout the whole work process.

It worked great but after a year, its battery degraded significantly. That was expected since I used it for gaming here and there along with academic and internship work. But when I took it back to Tech shop for battery replacement, they told me straightaway that they do not replace the battery and I need to use it with degraded battery. This happened in July. Fast forward to August end, fed up with poor battery backup, I returned it. But I needed a lightweight laptop given the one I have is a gaming one and is heavy. So I put a fresh request and went to the shop to pick up the new loaner laptop. This time the laptop they gave me had just 44% of battery health. The reason was that the laptops from new stock were already claimed. I was fine with that but just don't get it - What is the problem with battery replacement? It takes just 5 minutes to replace it and it is not glued to case like that of a MacBook. But they denied replacing the battery and giving loaner. Had to go back empty handed. If they can just order batteries for the laptops and replace them, it will save a lot of trouble for all.

I knew I was taking a risk to have it fixed and they never guaranteed anything. However, what did upset me was the fact that after looking around more, this seemed to be the only phone repair shop in Ann Arbor that charges a nonrefundable fee to even attempt to fix a phone. The other stores will only charge you if they're successful in fixing your phone. I picked up my broken phone back from these frauds. Upon pickup they tried to upsell me on a deluxe package that would entail a "deeper dive" and a more thorough fixing process. I couldn't believe it. They kept saying that no other competitors would be able to fix the phone and it was destroyed. Well surprise, surprise....I took it to another competitor and they had it completely fixed within 1/2 a day! And didn't even charge me unless the phone was fixed! After examining the patient, he decided to download the iOS update again, and reboot my phone. After that I was able to access my iCloud, and restore the phone back to normal.
