First, let me say, I did not get a massage here. I tried. Pretty hard, actually. But I called several times and left voicemails and just never got a call back. Unfortunately, I did pay for one via a deal site called Lifebooker, which I will not use again. I had actually forgotten about the deal after a few calls to Spencer Massage. It eventually expired, but laws were passed a couple of years ago that expired vouchers can still be used in their original value, even if the discount expires. I called Spencer massage again and asked for an appointment - I was willing to use my voucher's cash value and still pay extra to get my massage. So, to be clear, I called Spencer and left voicemails both before and after the voucher expired. Eventually I called Lifebooker and asked for my money back - they basically said "sorry, talk to Spencer Massage." And since Spencer Massage never returned a voicemail, I just filed a dispute with my credit card company. They had the nerve to challenge the dispute. So no, this is not a lost needle in a a haystack or lack of organization - they spoke to a representative and made some sort of case for why they deserved to keep my money. I don't know what they could have said, but it had to be a lie, since I paid for a service they refused to provide. So I lost the dispute, and they kept my $29. It's not much money, but I'm very unhappy with the whole situation in principle. And if you're considering getting a deal from them, I'd beware - you might be one of the lucky few who get an appointment and are happy with their services, or you might just end up losing $29. read more

Like another reviewer, I tried pretty hard to get an appointment here after purchasing a Lifebooker coupon. After three voicemails and one text message (which his voicemail greeting suggests using), I never heard back. I complained to Lifebooker and they said they would have to make three attempts at contacting this business before they could refund my money. Guess what? I got my refund. read more

Due to the overwhelming number of negative reviews, I feel that it is only fair to provide my own positive experience. I found George on Lifebooker, like many others writing a review. I got the deal to do a one-time nice thing for myself and ended up finding that George doesn't do relaxation massage as much as specific and targeted muscle work. I was uncertain about this at first, but after 3 months of massage, I am a total fan. I clearly needed this type of massage! He discusses progress with me each session and gives me "homework" to do at home. I am now up to about 5-8 different at home exercies that after 3 months, I have really found to be quite helpful. George has been attentive to my progress. He calls me for updates, communicates by text, and I even got a thank you card in the mail after my first session. We only had to reschedule one session and that was due to a conflict with the other therapist with whom he shares an office. At all times, he has treated me with professionalism. I have already recommended George to family and friends. I even brought my mom in for a session for her birthday. If you're looking for a massage therapist who is knowledgeable about muscle groups and gives you homework to decrease chronic tension and pain, George is right for the job. read more

I learned about Spencer Massage through a Lifebooker offer, and I'm so glad I did! Finding a new massotherapist can be tricky. You want to feel comfortable with them, obviously- you need to trust that they are professional, know what they're doing, will help and not hurt you, and aren't sketchy - I only add the last because I have definitely encountered it in the past. With all this in mind, I signed up for someone new, feeling like I was taking a bit of a gamble, and it definitely paid off. George is very professional, but I also find him super amiable and like him a lot. Before you start, he asks you general to specific questions about your health, exercise, and pain level, what you are hoping to accomplish in this session, and so forth. He also told me a few things I could do that would be better for my back - such as not constantly cross my legs when I sit, carry heavy bags always on one shoulder, wear heels too frequently - etc... I was like, good luck w/ that last one, George! but seriously, I have already taken these things on board, which is nice.. now I am actively trying to do more positive things for my body that I didn't really know about before. George did very site-specific work on me, where I was tight and hurting. It was great, because I felt a significant difference not only right away, but ever since. I had minimal soreness, and George encouraged me to drink lots of water and also gave me a sheet of info on how to best take care of my body post-session to minimize soreness, etc. George is also very conscientious of one's pain level while he works. Some people hate to be hurt during a massage, and other people actively seek it. There is a whole little school of thought that considers it to be better for you the more it hurts. The thing is, if you're hurting too much, your muscles will tense up, then not only are you not getting benefits from your massage, but you're actually risking damaging the muscles. George kept checking in to make sure I was not hurting or uncomfortable. All in all, I'm very impressed. George deserves your consideration and your body deserves George! I have been a client of George's for 4 months now and like that type of work he provides. This is NOT a typical relaxation massage however. His style of massage is perfect for people involved in sports or with chronic pain issues. George provides specialized massages to focus on problems areas that you may have throughout the body. For instance, one session may focus entirely on the back while another session on my shoulders. I had experienced chronic pain and tightness issues in these areas for YEARS. He developed a plan to make these areas better overall. I have read the other reviews and can honestly say that I have had a different experience. We have both had times when he had to re-schedule due to other last minute or unexpected situations. I will say that this is not the norm. He has also been accommodating when I have needed to move appointments as well. I discovered Spencer Massage through Facebook and continue to see him for treatments beyond my initial package. George is a great therapist, I've been to him many times, and always left feeling much better. He's not the spa type, he's more about mobility, muscle function, etc. He will target where you need the most work and focus there. Over the past summer when I was training for a half-marathon mud run through several injuries, George was able to help with my recovery, muscle imbalances, and general lack of sleep/bad habits. George is very professional and helpful and accomodating...i arrived late because of construction in the area and he was so kind to still give me a full hour :) thanks George.... George saved my life! I had been suffering from severe hip pain for almost 2 years...after lots of adjustments; chiropractic sessions, new shoes, physical therapy...each offering a bit of relief - George's massage work really has made the biggest difference and I'm virtually pain free! I have been seeing him for almost a year now and plan to continue on a monthly basis to keep things open and moving freely. This has not been relaxing massage - it's been work, but so well worth it! I was recommended to George by my trainer when I was having neck and back issues about a year ago. I have had great benefit in regular sessions with George ever since! He is very well versed in multiple therapies and applies them as needed. I think he is creative in his massage techniques using his knowledge and skills. I have been to a dozen or so therapists in the course of my life. George has been the best in resolving targeted issues. I have never had anyone else work on my neck in the effective way that he has. George is a lovely and generous individual. He has had some serious medical issues of his own, but he is doing much better. One word - terrible. I purchased an offer on Lifebooker, and could not be more disappointed. George, the owner, massage therapist, and appointment UNkeeper is incredibly unprofessionall. I purchased a deal for 4 sessions, and instead of being able to go every week, he would book me months apart. To add to this awful schedule, he FORGOT that he scheduled my appointment twice. This is just really unacceptable and frustrating. The last time was the straw that broke the camel's back. I waited outside in bitter cold rain for half an hour before he called back to inform me that he forgot, and was not planning on making up the session. Needless to say his customer service skills are non existent. The two times I did come in, he kept pushing me to purchase more sessions without proving himself as a good therapist. I found this through Lifebooker and ended up asking for a refund.. I bought a one hour massage, and called multiple times and left multiple messages to make an appointment with no luck. Finally I reached Mr. Spencer but he was "busy" and said he would call me right back. Three days later I was able to reach him and make an appointment. He told me he would email me the information on where to go and what to do. I never received that email so I have no clue how to go about my appointment. i think george gives great massages but i agree with others that he is hard to get a hold of. i bought a 3pack deal from lifebooker and i was excited to use them. he is a nice guy but i dont appreciate calling and leaving messages & them not being returned. at this point i just want to use my last massage cuz he does do a good job but its a hassle to make the appointments, thus the 3 star rating. read more

I found about Spencer Massage through Lifebooker, and they were having a special for 3 massages or 6 massages. I think it might still be available. Let me start of by saying this is not your average massage that you get at the spa or massage center. George really knows what he is doing. He tailors the massage specifically to address problematic areas. Also he gives you exercises and tips on how to work on those areas even when you are at home. He is very professional. After several tries of trying to reach him, he finally answered and I set up an appointment. He never send me the forms after he requested my email so he could send them. Today I went to his studio and guess what? He wasn't there! His voice recording on his phone says that he is making appointments for the week of December 20th and today it is February 7th! OY! I have been seeing George periodically for about 8 months now. He has been able to systematically improve the range of motion in my shoulder that had been impaired by injuries suffered, and ignored, decades earlier. I ended up returning my groupon because this guy is incredibly unprofessional and I've never had such a difficult time booking a massage. First issue, his voicemail says he'll call you within 48 hours. Never heard back, so called him again. He said he had a cold- never heard of not returning calls when you have a cold, but gave him the benefit of the doubt. He Asked for me to text my Email so he could send a form. Never got the form. Said he "thought" he had openings at two times next week, but would call me that night to confirm. Didn't hear from him and texted him telling him he never got back to me. Finally booked a massage for 6:30 the following week.. Based on his lack of follow up, texted him to confirm the appt at 1 that day. Also told him I never got the form. He called me at 3 that day saying he had to cancel because he had a cold. Actually sounded very fake like when you are calling in sick but really aren't. Sounds like this is a common theme with this guy. So many better places around here for massage. He doesn't deserve your business. read more
