I'm sure the owners of this fine establishment know where everything is, and it would take more than a couple wonderful hours for me to figure this place out. Luckily for Gayle and me, the Nevada-centric books were up front. She found one that had a good description of the "nearby" Hot Creek Ranch, where her extended family still has ownership. I enjoyed and purchased an older Nevada tour book, with great maps and descriptions. And it really didn't matter that many of these places were no more. Unfortunately, our time was limited and I don't think we even scratched the surface of this place. But we'll be back to peel this onion back a little more.

I also browsed through the kids' section for a bit, though I didn't end up finding anything this time. Overall, it's a 2 story shop with lots to explore. Worth stopping in if you enjoy the hunt for used books.

We found the rare books section & could spend hours in it! found a 2nd edition 1940's book & a rare 1963 novel this day.

It's very small (about 500 sqft, 2 rooms of books) with a jazzercise studio in the back. They have nice antique settees in both rooms. $2 for paperback and $4 for hardcover. The guy in the front was very kind. Since they have a jazzercise studio in the back, I think they should do speakeasy events there for book lovers since they have a nice enclosed parking- Bridgeton High Tea..., twilight dinners...A You marathon... Hunger Games costume party.... crafting with books.. I've never read Twilight, but since I was just in Oregon, I have to read or watch the twilight series now, but they did not have the book. They take donations so if anyone wants to donate twilight, lemme know! I had exactly $6 cash so I got myself a C.I.A. cookbook (Culinary Institute of America) because I collect cookbooks. Anthony Bourdain, Roy Choi (I ate at his restaurant, Best Friend in Las Vegas) & Grant Achatz (I dream of one day eating at his Michelin Starred restaurant, Alinea in Chicago) graduated from C.I.A. I also got a brand new paperback from Target- Love, Naturally. I am a little behind on my reading because life has taken me on a hell of a ride this year.

We have three traditions when we drive through Bishop on the way home from Mammoth -- we stock up on jerky at Mahogany Smoked Meats and Beef Jerky; we eat lunch at La Casita Mexican Restaurant; and, we end with a trip to Spellbinder Books and Coffee. Spellbinder is a storefront in the center of Main Street, in the very heart of the community. This is my favorite part of the trip to Mammoth. The store has a significant collection of western and titles. I picked up a book of letters from women crossing the continent in covered wagons and read it to my daughter when she was learning about the West at school. The staff is incredibly friendly; they do a terrific job chatting up my husband, allowing me to browse to my heart's content. read more
