Store is dirty. Coffee is nasty burnt tasting. Slushy machine hardly works. Cashier acts like she's not n meth. Weird place.

Forget the dried out hot dogs, endlessly turning on a roller grill, that other convenience stores offer. Ricker's has fresh, made-to-order burritos, nachos, tacos and other Mexican favorites that are made with quality ingredients and served fast. I travel all over the area for work and frequently need to seek out one-stop-shopping for lunch, drink, and gas and Ricker's is my choice. Along with the tasty food options Ricker's offer perks like free ATMs and a Rewards card with great benefits. I understand that some people wouldn't be excited about a super convenience store but if you are a road warrior like me you will appreciate Ricker's.

Ricker's. The trophy wife of gas stations. A newer, bigger, cleaner, dare I say, upscale, version…read moreof what we all take for granted in a gas station. Mind you, I'm still getting used to the concept of a "cafe" inside a gas station. I like my gas stations worn in and friendly, not $4.50 breakfast burrito uptown flavor. I jest; Ricker's is clean, has good food options, the doughnuts look delicious, and the staff is very friendly. Four stars all day long for that. I'm assigning three stars because there's not enough value for the money here. But I'm cheap and willing to eat off the roller grill (delicious!) and earn points elsewhere.

I visited because I heard through the grapevine that Carniceria Morelos sells tamales by the dozen,…read moreand you don't have to pre-order. I was right! They have a little food area in the back of the store, near the pan dulce, where they have tamales ready and waiting in steamers. You need to go to the register first and let them know how many and which kind of tamales you want, and they'll get them for you. I bought a dozen-and-a-half of the pork with red chile tamales, and they are very good! In fact, I'm eating one right now as I type this review! The tamales have the perfect proportion of masa to meat, and they are cooked all the way through and not at all gummy, like some tamales can get when they're not cooked properly. They have other tamales besides pork, but I was only interested in pork when I visited, so I can't tell you for sure what other kinds they have. This is also a grocery store, so there are lots of packaged Mexican foods here, as well as a small panderia with some bolillos and a selection of pan dulce. This looks to be a great place to find Mexican candy (Lucas, Tajin, tamarindo candy, those little disks of chalky peanut butter with the picture of the abuelita on them, etc.), as I saw a lot of different candies.
