The Speedway in Annandale, VA was once upon a time a bustling, diverse, family oriented business that was built by a super caring general manager who recently retired. He grew his team of associates one painstaking right step at a time. Team members went above and beyond to recognise you by your first name, and often times, remembered things like my favourite coffee creamer and milestones related to my recovery journey and my birthday. The general manager has long since retired. A young, bright man worked tirelessly in his place to keep the family feeling going. He was promoted within the ranks, and in his place came a new GM and a handful of staff members that arrived with him. Speedway is no longer my first stop before I begin my workday. Sadly, the morale and professionalism I once appreciated are no longer. Little care is devoted to cleanliness. Items are often out of stock. Gone are the welcomes by first name and exceeding of expectations. My past two encounters with a newer associate left me feeling defeated, a bit saddened, and accepting that the Speedway of yesteryears is gone. Gassed up my baby! This Speedway is always clean. They have several fuel pumps and the inside mini-mart is a gem where you will find whatever you need to keep YOU fueled lol. My only hmmmm was that you can't print a receipt at the fuel pump - you have to go inside. I was using a business card to fill up and I needed a receipt to expense my gas so I didn't have a choice. I will say the lady that assisted me at the cash register was very sweet and super efficient so not that big of a deal but just odd that you can't print it at the pump & need to fetch in person. Usually among the best prices for gas in Annandale. Going through here for local trips often, my gas guzzler is known here. Getting 11 mph average isn't fun. Okay the engine performance is, but that 33 gallon tank can make you scream. At least here plenty of pumps. Also lots of room for us fellows with good sized trucks. Clean and well illuminated. It's right off of 236. This is one clean station. They accept most forms of payment. The store is pretty nice, and they have a good selection of beers. Their coffee works, they have snacks, and nice employees. If you're in the area this will work. read more

There are many ways to get high. Some prefer the crackway, others like the weedway. If you prefer the Speedway, then this gas station is for you. This is my gas station of choice when I am in Annandale getting Korean food or all the other great treats in this area. It's open until all hours of the night and usually has pretty competitive prices for this region. So I like it. A lot of the area closes down after midnight, but not this awesome spot, which is right in the middle of everything. And I appreciate it. read more

I have not done a review in years, but as I begin to come out of shutdowns and a busy summer, I thought I would go ahead and start again. I love this Speedway and have for years. I started going when they were still a Hess because it was on the way from my old home to my old office. And I've kept going for years. The prices on gas are good, and their selection of snack food is one of the best in downtown Annandale. The beer cave is also very well stocked. The best part though is the staff, they are friendly and helpful, always ready to chat if it's not too crowded. They keep the place clean and the shelves well stocked. It never feels seedy inside. And the food is great for convenience store food. I recommend the BBQ pork sandwich or the burgers. read more

My go-to gas station! I always come here because of its close and convenient location, perfectly near my house and wherever I go, I can always get here before my gas tank reaches E. Love the employees here, they are always friendly and welcoming. The store itself is not like your typical gas station, they have so much to offer. I love the donuts, and the deals they are always having. I have saved so much money coming here. Gas is decently priced and great for my budget. I never spend more then $25 for a tank of gas compared to most places I go. Get their Speedy Rewards card. It saves up your points for when you spend on gas and inside the store, for rewards like free coffee, and etc. I absolutely love it! They always urge you to get a card and it is a quick and easy sign up. You can pay out at the pump or you can go inside, it's up to you. Yay for friendly and reliable gas stations :) read more

I've been a loyal customer since 2014. Mostly because the Premium gas is about 2 cents cheaper than the gas station at the other end of the block. THOUGH THIS WILL NO LONGER BE ENOUGH TO KEEP MY BUSINESS. For the past 6 months, since there was a change in ownership, Speedway (previously Hess) has become the bottom-of-the-barrel in customer service. Still, it was on my way to work so why not? The WORST customer service experience has come from this place, a woman who hides or does not wear a name tag (the reason for this review). On a few recent visits I recognized there was a new staff but much to my amazement was not even greeted or made welcome whatsoever (if it were my first day on the job I'd try to at least put on a smile), nonetheless I asked for my usual "10 Gallons Premium" GTR's are high maintenance, swiped my visa and went on to fill gas. The fuel pump stopped at 3 Gallons, the new woman had charged me $10 dollars, so I had to go back and make line AGAIN, this time I had to do some math so I could tell her how much because she couldn't find the Gallons button. During my second visit I stayed outside to wash the windshield,as the pollen levels were high that day, while my girlfriend went inside to pay for me. When she came back I tried to pump gas, IT WOULDNT LET ME SELECT THE GRADE. And AGAIN she charged me for the wrong thing. This time 10 Gallons but for the REGULAR gas. I had to go back and make line AGAIN. I mean come'on! It's called SPEEDWAY not I-WILL-SLOW-YOUR-DAY. Fine, next time I would make sure to be perfectly clear. The next time I came for a refill of gas I repeated the grade and amount of gasoline. This woman had the audacity to snark at me and told me not repeat myself. RUDE I'm trying to make sure YOU DONT MAKE ANY MISTAKES. TODAY WAS THE FINAL STRAW. I waited in line, two registers were opened (a miracle), but when it was my turn THE SAME AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN WITH NO NAME TAG closed the register right when I got to the front "temporarily" and left me to wait for a new staff member to come. He ALSO didn't have a name tag and told me there was no "Gallon" button, I assured him there was. And here's where it got interesting, the lady came back and told ME to be quiet while she was doing stock, she said I was being disruptive. What?? I spoke two words. I told her I wasn't having it I ALWAYS pay by the Gallons and that's all I wanted. She refused to ring up the order and the new guy IGNORED me while she went to the back. Well that's cool, I just took my $30 bucks and went to the gas station next door for the very first time. The guy who greeted me said he liked my ride and even showed me how to use their pump outside with a big smile. I guess Speedway doesn't like having customers. read more

This is by far the cleanest Speedway I have been to. It was a wonderful surprise walking in at 3am on a road trip home from South Carolina. I've been refueling at Speedway all along the I95 to earn my points () and this is by far the: cleanest, well kept, well stocked and friendliest location. Mrs. K, the woman working the overnight shift was so pleasant, kind and professional. Refreshing to see an employee going above and beyond their job description. I had the WORST experience to date at a gas station thanks to an employee named Rick. My gas pump had an error message when I inserted my credit card and went inside to see what the deal was. Rick told me about how I can pay for the gas now. When I told him I wasn't interested, I just wanted to let an employee know, he got very hostile with me. He started raising his voice about how I would like to pay for my gas and handed me membership card that I NEVER ASKED FOR. When I asked him what this was, he answered back in a hostile manner. I don't know in what setting it is okay to enroll a customer into a service without their consent. Everyone in the store was staring and I had to walk away from the encounter. I never thought I would review a gas station/convenience store but the lady and gentleman working at 1:34 PM on Friday, October 7 were so nice and friendly I just had to say, "Way to go! " I just ran in for a pitstop and bought a cup of coffee because I would never consider using someone business without purchasing something. The gentleman at the counter made sure that I had one of their incentive cards and explained the benefits to me. We started talking about ex-smokers (like me) and the nice lady started chatting as well. They were funny and charming and trimmed the edge off of a tough day. read more
