I want to write to explain how terrible of an experience it was at Speed Raceway in Horsham Pa. I am an experienced karter, and have been to karting facilities all over this country and others. And by an extreme margin, this was the worst facility ever. I was excited to try out the electric karts, but was extremely disappointed.
To start off, after we sign in, and pay for a race, we waited for o
ver an hour to be called. Usually on every other facility I have been too, there is an estimated time on the ticket on when to race. And it is never more than 20 to 30 min. No time at all. So we sat and waited for an hour and a half to be called up. And when I asked multiple people when our race would be up, I got no answer what so ever. "I don't know", "we will call you when your up". Not a single clear answer.
When we were finally called up, we went through the flags, but it was pointless to explain the flags, and I will explain why in a second. We got in the new electric karts and started off. But wait, did we? The karts are on a freaking remote control, by which I mean, the crew controls how fast you go. I would plant my foot on the accelerator, and go slower than I would walking. OK, that was the first lap to get the lay of the track, OK that makes sense. Then the karts turn on. I have a jolt of power, wow these karts are fast. I catch up the kart in front of me, and my kart deflates. The crew slows my kart down, as I am getting to close the guy in front of me. Gives me just enough power to get around him, barely. I pass him, power comes back up, I take a turn full speed jab the brakes, and drift the turn a little, go to the throttle, ahh, the crew turned the power off on me again, to a crawl. Once on a straight power again. Take the turn fast, catch up, before I get there, power off. STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID. Whats the point of going over the flags, if I cant pass, brake, accelerate and so forth. Someone then did spin off and hit the barrier, I don't know how cause if you step on the gas they reduce the power like a volume control on a TV remote. Once crashed, normally a red or yellow flag comes out, nope, they just turned off the karts completely, and we rolled to a stop. Ummmmmm, so whats the point of the flags, if you don't show them and just turn us off.
As I have said before, I am an experienced karter, and know how to drive a kart, and pass people safely. This was the worst karting experience of my life, because it wasn't mine, it was the crews, who had my kart on a remote control.
If I am wrong about the karts being on a remote control, then my sentiments remain the same as the karts are completely useless, with inconsistent power. But then again I am very certain they are controlled by remotes, as all my friends had the same experience. So its either a coincidence the car dies at the exact same time, or its controlled.
I will never come back, along with my friends who feel the same. I was so disappointed in this place. I am making sure everyone I know will never go here, unless you don't know how to drive, cause you ain't really driving anyway. read more
