Changing my review from a 5 star to a 1 star, I have been a regular here for the past 12 years, new owners took over and everything changed. You can't skate backwards unless is adult night, you can't skate in the center of the floor unless it's adult night. I have had my child's party at this location several times. Philly SkatePlex is the best family fun place to go! Reasonable prices, even with discount days to be able to bring the whole family. There is something for everyone to do...our little kids love the PlayZone while our teens skate. And as an adult I love that I can either sit back and watch the kids have fun, skate myself or I can play a few arcade games; like the NEW Pac-Man game you just got!! If I could rate zero I would. Kept falling and the staff did not give a shit about my safety. Believe my wrist is damaged now because of it and it still hurts. Stairs everywhere so people that use wheelchairs can't go either. Vending machines everywhere so they can still take your money despite the overpriced ticket for admission. Party was well over $300 for 2 hrs and again, staff was AMAZING so a tip was definitely made! I learned that this establishment pays their workers $10 even after working for 2 years! The service was horrible, not giving us food and the food being super expensive, the workers in the back the whole time not giving us skates or counting our tickets. The skates were sized wrong and they were falling apart before our eyes. I couldn't even get a prize because of the horrible service not doing there jobs. Took the kids there and we all had an amazing time. Safe and family friendly - speed skaters not plowing people over. Well staffed with people on the rink to help people up seconds after they fell. Great variety of music and great audio. Learner supports saved my back after long day working. Great and convenient hours that fit well with our schedule. Choice of inline vs traditional skates. There is a limit to skating backwards for about 2 songs - learners can practice in the center of the rink if learning to skate backwards. Cute family spot to bring the kids skating! They offer adult skating after 8pm which I'd likely give a try next time considering it was packed with children when I went. The staff aren't the friendliest, especially the ones collecting the money at the door and the ones serving the food which is surprising because they work around children... Need to hire some people with better attitudes. For a snack, my boyfriend and I got a funnel cake and some nachos and both were horrible. The nachos were sitting in the warmer but came out cold and they charge 1.08 for a second cup of cheese. I didn't receive one full chip, a bunch of dag on crumbs if you ask me and the funnel cake made me chuckle... The young lady say it would be a 1 minutes wait which made a huge difference on whether or not we wanted it, so of course we got it. After waiting nearly 30 minutes they bring out this small a s s cake like really?! So yeah my suggestion would be to eat before you arrive because you'll likely be upset with your purchase and will still be hungry. They nickel and dime you for everything here so be prepared to spend spend spend. Maybe i'm just old fashion but EVERYTHING was a separate price. You would think that after you've paid for admission per person, paid for skates per person, paid for a roller skate trainer, that if your child wanted to play in the multi-level jungle gym that would be included but NOPE, mo money mo money. And there's 3 hour time slots for the duration of your skate/play so pick your time wisely and hope you get there in time and that there's minimal wait time so you feel like you got the full duration or else your really wasting your money. So over all this is a place kids will love and parents/caregivers will be less than enthused about. Oh and it get's HOT real quick in here when it's crowded. So dress like it's summer even if it's fall or winter. read more

SkatePlex is so much fun. We will definitely be here often. The kids and the adults had fun. Even the non-skaters enjoyed themselves. There's an arcade and a jungle gym area for the kids. You can also walk on the floor with shoes on to safely help kids skate. I posted a picture of the food only because before we went I was searching for food prices and pictures and couldn't find any. I wanted to know if we should eat there or before we got there. For the 2 pizzas, fries and pitcher of soda it came up to $48. It was expensive but the food was great. read more

Best skating rink in the Philadelphia area. DJ was great and the floor guard was extremely helpful in assisting me when I darn near broke my neck on the floor They are interactive at skate plex. Played lots of games with the kids & adults center rink and gave out free passes. I really enjoyed myself. Thinking about taking a lesson or two. read more

This was good for what it was, and I had a lot of fun. I think entry and skate rental was just $12, which was reasonable. We came for the adult skate and I was glad I didn't have to worry about children weaving in and out of traffic as I skated. This still happened with the adults, but I felt less guilt about having to possibly break my fall. The speed of some skaters in a condensed space could feel a bit overwhelming and dangerous for a beginner I would think. Thankfully, I didn't fall, though there were a few near collisions. They do, at least, appear to have people monitoring and helping people up. I was able to attempt one backwards-skate and that was fun. After a while skating around multiple times gets a bit redundant but they have some arcade games and food if you need a change of pace. I would come here again. read more

Admission prices have skyrocketed and even after you pay high admission you're forced to pay additional fees to skate during their "laser light skate" Other issues Plan on waiting 20 minutes to get in to sign their waiver Plan on wiping down your own table before you eat Plan on listening to 20 minutes of advertising the laser light skate Last note The last time I was there the floor was full of objects that could cause someone to get seriously hurt. Lights, trash etc. The previous owners /management would have never allowed these objects on the floor because it's not safe for everyone but this management only cares about money. They only had one floor guard who did his best but couldn't keep up. So you would think management would step up and help out but no. Until the laser light skate when a female manager who was short with dark curly hair walked on the floor stopping people who did not have laser lights. Meanwhile there was still plenty of trash on the floor she didn't care about that. I'll come back from time to time but definitely not as much as I used to. I miss the palace! read more

I been here before for company events, when i wanted to throw a party, rent the rink for a private party, I was given 3 different prices, the date i wanted it was agreed upon that i can book but then i couldn't. The girl had NO idea what she was talking about the 3 times i spoke to her. If you don't know your rates or job or me in touch with someone who does. I never heard of renting a rink for $800 then guest have to pay at the door still even for rentals. As a event planner I couldn't decorate, have catered food, or my own dj compared to other skating rinks I used in the past and allowed. My guess don't want greasy fried food and small selections. It was just a unprofessionalism experience over the phone I can imagine how it would be in person, so Im talking my business elsewhere. read more

The palace Roller skating rink is a huge disappointment compared to when I was a kid. Let me start by saying... Some of the rules they have well let me say they are not professional and the ppl that make the rules should mabe look them over or learn what skating is and what it's about and letting the ppl with family enjoy them selvels more. 1 rule that's stupid and kinda makes no sense to me is if and adult is teaching there kid to skate and the adult is skating backwards and helping there kid skate forward going less then 5mph how could someone that works there come up and say that works there you are not aloud to skate backwards. OK if someone is skating backwards by them selvels really fast. That I could understand and accept. And to make matters worse and makes it more disrespectful. Is the skate guards as soon as they tell you you can't skate backwards then they go and tell the DJ and then the DJ gets on the loudspeaker and announces it. I've been taking my son ice skating many times and have never been told you can't skate backwards, but I guess it's really all about how the management knows what skating is about and know how the real rules work. It should really be about letting the familys with there kids have a fun time. And enjoy themselves and not take away apart of the fun of skating. And make it what is was in the 80s.. read more

I recently went to a birthday party here. The employees were nice enough and the kids had an absolute blast. I was actually surprised at how good the pizza was! I was expecting it to be mediocre but it was tasty. My only complaint was that they could of wiped things down more especially with Covid. Fun place for the kids to go and spend time with friends. Not very expensive for entry. I suggest having your own skates because like all other roller rinks it seems the skates have been there since the doors first opened. They do games on the rink where the children are able to win prizes such as a free soda. They have periods where it's just for the little ones, so they have time when they don't have the speed racers flying around them, and then they have time just for the older children and adults who can feel free to skate the way they like without worrying about knocking down a little one. The kids love it and their school does a fundraiser with them during a couple of their half days. read more

I was so happy when I saw how much they do for the parties and how great the prices were! and they even had a kind of ticket blaster for the bday child to go into!! The food was good, easy to handle and drinks that were continuously refilled for free...we got tables right next to the skating zone and it was hands down on of the least stressful parties i'd ever planned for my daughter. they gave us 10 free skating passes so we've been going once a month! DOMINIC. A little punk on skates knocks over little kids and the manager and skate guards did nothing. This guy is a regular and mouthed off when asked to stop. He made a severely unsafe environment for other skaters. We watched him intentionally knock a really tiny girl over and she got hurt! Then he knocked our girls over more than once. We made a complaint after each attempt at knocking our kids over and they did nothing until we had to yell at DOMINIC ourselves. What a mess. I frequented this rink when it was Palace regularly and always had a great time. It was staffed well with skate floor guards. We went tonight from 5 to 8. I am not sure we will go back. We didn't even get in until after 5:30 because the line was so slow moving. There were only 2 floor guards. People were backwards skating during regular skate, skating with their phones while facetiming, little kids were unattended and skating sideways and in the wrong direction. Two of the bathroom stalls out of 4 did not have toilet paper and the bathrooms were dirty. We waited 45 minutes for our pizza. I don't think we will be back. ​ read more

I love this skating rink and I love roller skating. That being said, I'm thoroughly disappointed with the paymemt process for entry. It's ridiculous to show up at 7:45 for a session that started at 7:30 only to stand in line until 8:30!! That's absurd. The process takes ENTIRELY TOO LONG! I can order an entire meal at Chipotle and check out in a fraction of the time it takes to pay $10 to roller skate. Something is amiss and this company has done nothing to address the issue. They were packed to the point that you would be taking elbows from everyone, but moreover they didn't have on their website that they don't rent skates on Saturday night. My friends and I went there for a friends birthday celebration and we had to leave because only some of us had skates and the others needed to rent them, but the palace wouldn't. Oh and their parking situation stinks too. Not the palace that I remembered from 1995! I wanted to bring in a cake to cut for my sons 6th birthday, it was me, my son my 1yr and my husband. They told me in order for us to bring in the cake I had to pay for 10 kids. I was in disbelief. Where other rinks have failed to maintain the family friendly vibe, Palace continues to be a great place for family fun. My son loooooves to skate and has had two parties at Palace. We used to frequent the 10 and under skate when he was in that age bracket and I loved it because parents can walk alongside their kids and the little ones don't get clobbered by the bigger kids. We recently went to a Thursday night skate and it wasn't crowded at all. My son had a blast skating to the awesome DJ's tunes. They typically have games for the kids in the middle of the session and the kids love winning that small piece of candy and courtesy cup of soda lol. Admission and snacks are still affordable. We bring our own skates since the rentals have seen better days. I can't say enough great things about this rink. 8 years later and it's still the best in Philly for kids in our opinion. read more

Saturday morning. Rain in the forecast. First thought? Let's go roller skating. Clearly, I ended up at Palace. This place is a blast from the past. If you woke up from a 30 year coma and ended up in here you probably wouldn't think any time had passed (except skating and texting?). Even the music! The floor is kinda busted up but for a 5 hour, $5 admission, who cares? Skate rentals were cheap too, maybe $2, and the skates were in decent shape. This place is crawling with kids. All the moms having parties were probably checking the amber alerts when three 20 somethings rolled up (literally). We stood out except for a few people who seemed like regulars doing some show off kinda moves. It's good motivation to get better. Dodging awkward kids on skates makes for some great braking and turning practice. On that same note, watching people eat it on skates is entertainment in itself. I'm going back ASAP with intentions of renting this joint out completely for a huge birthday party. All I did was laugh. And, I'll be checking out 'adult night' for sure. read more

I went to Palace Roller Skating Center on Saturday with Hubby, my mom and my little brother (he's 19 years younger than me, so still a little guy). I used to come here religiously when I was a teenager, and it really hasn't changed much. First of all, they must be treating their employees pretty darn good, because it's all the same people I remember from when I was a kid. There have also been a few changes, like the addition of a cool Philly skyline mural and some newish carpeting. The snack bar, skate shop and the rink itself are still the same, as well as the lockers that I'm pretty sure are older than I am. They still work though! The music is pretty much the same, newer dance music with a mix of 90's club music (think Stevie B). On Saturdays and Sundays they do the Hokie Pokie, Limbo and "Spin the Pin for the kids. It's definitely fun for all ages. You can't beat the prices here either. The session we went to was from 1PM-7PM and the admission was $5 plus $3 skate rental. To me, that's a darn good value for a nice big, clean rink with some fun that's actually healthy for you! They've gotten some newer skates too, so they were in good condition. All in all, it was a great time and I am strongly considering buying a new pair of skates and coming here regularly again. I'll probably come to mostly the adult skate sessions though, as dodging the falling small children gave me several mini heart attacks. read more

I love this place! I recently went here with a few of my friends because we wanted to do something different for her birthday, rather then the normal dinner/bar/dancing combo. I used to come to Palace ALL the time from about ages 12-15. One thing I can say is that the decor has not changed at all since I was a kid. They are def. overdue in updating the look of the place. Also, the bathrooms can be a bit funky at times. Aside from that, I still love it. It's $7 to get in and $3 for a skate rental. You can choose either regular roller skates or rollerblades, and the rental price is the same for both. They have lockers for your shoes which run about $.50. There is a spot to get food there where they sell the usual pizza, nachos, pretzels, icees, funnel cake, fries, soda, etc. The prices are cheap when it comes to the food, which is nice, but its nothing special. They also offer birthday party packages where you can rent out the upstairs for a party for a pretty good price. They have all different skating sessions, including an all-adult session on Saturdays from 10:30-12:30 am. The staff is friendly & they offer video games, ski-ball, and other arcade-style games to play when not skating. With the tickets you win playing those games you can take it to the skate shop and exchange them for prizes. It's def. a great place for kids & I will continue to come back here as long as it is open! read more

Prices are cheap but I wish they would upgrade to this century. Dirty, gross food area, and the bathroom looks like a prison. People do go and the wood floor is great, music is alway spot on.
