I've been to this shop in Brighton couple of weeks ago (29th Nov 2015) to chek my sight. I am doing eyes exercies and already 2 years in a row my sight improving. Starting from -4.25 it improved to my current glases to -3.75 - all confirmed by different ophtalmologists. And the method suggests that I should change glasses for weaker specs after a while so my eyes could be trained for weaker specs.
So I went to this shop, hoping to get glasses with around -3.5 (cause I feel that I see perfectly with current glasses). The ophtalmologist (Hussain, I think was his name) checked my eyes and said they are healthy and my eyesights with current glasses (with -3.75) is good. Then I asked him to issue for me subscription for lower (-3.50) specs so I could train my eyes further. And he agreed that he will issue weaker specs so I could use them only for training.
I was foolish enough to not check what has he issued to me. But at the point of purchase of new pair of glasses I checked it and saw -4.25 on the subscription. However, I was not 100% sure if my last subscription was lower. So I cancelled purchase and went home to see if I was right. At home I found my previous subscriptions and with my current -3.75, and previous -4.00 (in 2014) and -4.25 (2013).
The conclusions are:
- The ophtalmologist at Specsavers failed to measure my current glasses and subscribed me much stronger glasses wich I don't need (since I still have my previous glasses with me and see perfectly with current ones)
- if he did subscribe to me higher specs glasses intentionally that means that the company wanted to rip me off for completely unnecessary new pair of glasses. I wonder if they do this for everybody else (unfortunately, most of people are not educated in this are and completely trust to an opthalmologist)
- or he just lied to me during the tests
In the end it was completely useless appointment to me. Because I have all my previous glasses and I see perfectly with current ones.
P.S. I noticed during my eye test that Hussein kept puting stronger glasses on the measuring device even if I already could see the smallest line of letters. He did it couple of times and I completely do not understand why should anyone need better than 20/20 eyesight - so I could clearly see borders of the small letters in the lower row ?!
Beware and double check with other ophtalmologist before you decide to buy something at this shop (Specsavers in Brighton) with their subscription. read more
