Thorough service for eyes! The doctor has great bedside manner. The Jupiter location is the best!

I am updating my review because today's experience was the final straw. My son has been a patient of Dr. Simons for years. One ongoing issue with this office has always been the excessive wait times. It is not unusual to spend three hours or more in the waiting room before being seen. Despite that inconvenience, we continued coming because we trusted the doctor. Over the past six months, my 21-year-old son has been seeing Dr. Simons for an eye injury that causes one of his eyes to cross or drift when he is under stress. He followed all of the doctor's recommendations, including purchasing a prism for his glasses and attending multiple follow-up appointments. Today's appointment was supposed to be the next major step: scheduling corrective surgery. After waiting more than three hours, he was finally taken to an exam room, only to be told that the surgery center does not accept his Florida Blue insurance. This raises a serious question: Why was his insurance eligibility for the surgery center not verified from the beginning? My son has been seen five or more times for this injury, paying hundreds of dollars in co-pays and related expenses, only to find out now that the facility where the surgery would be performed does not accept his insurance. We feel that this information should have been disclosed much earlier in the process. Instead, months of appointments, costs, and time were invested before this issue was brought to our attention. If you are considering this practice, I strongly encourage you to verify insurance coverage for all services and facilities upfront. The lack of transparency and the constant, excessive wait times have made this an extremely frustrating experience for our family. Also, be aware that the practice has recently changed its name. Do your research carefully before scheduling an appointment. Note: I removed the statement "This is insurance fraud" because that is a legal accusation that can be difficult to substantiate publicly. Replacing it with factual descriptions of what happened makes the review more credible and harder to dismiss. read more

I had a terrible experience at this office. The staff was rude, unprofessional, and acted as if they didn't want to be there. Patients are scheduled for morning appointments, but many end up waiting 2 to 6 hours before being seen. This is completely unacceptable. This was not my first visit. I have been to this office three times, and every single visit was exactly the same. This is not a one-time issue--it appears to be the way this office is run. The waiting room has chairs, but there are far too many patients for the available seating. Many people, including elderly patients, are forced to stand for hours in a small, overcrowded waiting area because there simply aren't enough seats for everyone. Patients become frustrated, complain, and even argue because of the extremely long waits, yet the staff seems completely indifferent. They work very slowly, show little concern for patients, and often come across as rude. It feels like they have no respect for people's time or for the patients they are supposed to care for. This office is poorly managed and provides some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone. read more

I am so mad and disappointed. I drove all the way from PSL, over an hour for my appointment and sat an hour and a half before I was told that the person doing my eye test was not in today and was helping out a doctor in wpb. No one called me to tell me not to come, no one bothered to tell me my appointment had been rescheduled and allowed me to sit and wait over an hour in the crowded waiting room. This isn't the first time, but the second time in a month that this has happened. The waiting room is packed, standing room only and all the receptionist is able to do is apologize. What has our health care come to? Why do you make appointments and expect patients to sit hours to be seen. No wonder they are renaming this place, with these reviews, no one would come here. Sadly for many, it's the only eye specialist covered, so they have you right where they want you and you have absolutely nothing you can do, but deal with this kind of crap. read more

My daughter was scheduled here and three times and all three times she was not seen and they took her co payment and never gave it back; I call the office and no one picks up. I will be reporting this office to the better business bureau. This isn't how people should be treated let alone they getting away with it. Then on top of waiting 2-4 hours they tell her last minute the actual visit will be 3 hours long. The office is just a mess ! Someone needs to call me back regarding my daughters co payment !!!! read more

While the techs are great with my little one, the fact that the doctor doesn't even get in the building until like 10am is what makes this a poorly run office, in Jupiter. I don't think this doctor will ever change though so ppl just have to deal with it. While the doctor may be good, his lack of concern for ppl's time is what I find disappointing. The young kids that have to come here and wait hours is just ridiculous. read more

When we made an appointment at 8:30 I had the wait to wait past 9:30 and nobody came to finish the appointment. Also, they said we couldn't cancel because "it's better to be in the room than out there". read more

was recommended to this place by St Lucie Eye Institute my appointment was for today April 29 @ 1pm I filled out all their paperwork and gave them my insurance card. The waiting room was filled with approximately 30 people at first didn't think anything of it since ai thought there might be more than one doctor on staff. As I was waiting one of the staff came out and asked for my payment. I asked how long is the wait and she responded 3 to 4 hours. At this point I still hadn't received back my insurance card or my photo ID. I asked for my cards back and told them I'm leaving this was unacceptable I did not give my payment either. I reported them to my insurance company just in case they decide to bill me for services NOT rendered. I also called the office that recommended them and told them what happened. My advice always check reviews before making appointments. read more

I am extremely disappointed with the lack of professionalism at this ophthalmology office. My 80-year-old father was scheduled for an appointment, and we drove over an hour to get there, only to be told that they did not have authorization from his insurance. This is something that should have been verified before confirming the appointment, especially considering his age and the distance we travel. It is incredibly inconvenient and inconsiderate to expect an elderly patient to make that trip without ensuring all required authorizations are in place.. There needs to be better communication and coordination with insurance before scheduling patients. This experience showed a serious lack of organization and respect for patients' time. The physician needs to be aware what is happening in his office. Something needs to be done. read more

While this ophthalmologist specializes in neuro issues I am highly disappointed with the wait times in this office. First visit was 5 hours of waiting to have approximately 10 minutes of testing and a 5 minute consultation for my wife to tell him exactly what was on her charts. They scheduled another appointment for today and once again looking like another 5 hours not including 1 1/4 travel time each way. Maybe scheduling children and adults on separate days might assist with the wait time. Time will tell whether it was worth the wait. read more

horrible experience Dr Simmons saw me 5 times over 6 weeks ran mulitple tests and assured me i had no signs of detached retina. I had to argue with him to refer me to a specialist which i ultimately had to find myself and within 20 minutes of see two other optomologists they both diagnosed me with a detached retina. If I could give Specialty Eye Associates in Jupiter, Florida, zero stars, I would. This place is an absolute trainwreck and a disgrace to healthcare. I sat in their dingy waiting room for over an hour past my appointment time, twiddling my thumbs while the staff clearly had no clue how to manage a schedule. If they can't handle something as basic as keeping appointments on track, how on earth are they trusted to manage anyone's eye health? Spoiler: they shouldn't be. The staff here have the professionalism of a circus clown show. Rude, dismissive, and utterly incompetent, they treated me like an inconvenience rather than a patient. It's clear they have zero respect for people's time or well-being. The office itself feels like a time warp to a poorly run DMV--chaotic, outdated, and staffed by people who seem to hate their jobs. Save your eyes and your sanity; go anywhere else. This place is a pathetic excuse for a medical practice. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. I took my child there and we were in the overflow part of the waiting room for about 2 1/2 - 3 hours. when we were finally taken to an exam room we were in there for probably another forty minutes before the dr came in for all of five minutes and told me my son had no issue, there is just a lot of space between his eyes. I went for a second opinion and the new dr not only saw my concern, but also found some issues and we are needing to see a specialist for him. run from this office. we were at the one in Jupiter, but I asked if the wait time was always that long everywhere and was told that it is in fact always about three hours or more. that along with being blown off by the dr (especially the poor attention) has brought me here to warn others not to go to or trust this man read more

I am deeply disappointed with my experience at this pediatric eye center, and I feel compelled to warn others. This clinic has consistently shown a complete lack of care for its patients. Overbooking seems to be a regular practice here, resulting in outrageously long wait times. On multiple occasions, I have waited over an hour past my appointment time, only to be rushed through the visit. The staff, while polite, appears overwhelmed and understaffed. The lack of communication is infuriating, and it feels like patients are nothing more than numbers to be pushed through as quickly as possible.I would strongly advise looking elsewhere for your child's eye care. This place clearly prioritizes profits over patient well-being, and their care--or lack thereof--reflects that. Avoid if you value your time and your child's health. read more

i have never been to a worse business. I'm giving them a star because that's the lowest I can go. they schedule appointments and still say you are going to wait around 3 hours. Terrible service. They show no care for their patients. read more

If you're reading these reviews, they are accurate. The office in Jupiter is a mess. I took my dad for an appointment and was told he had no appointment. I showed her the confirmation email and she said he's not in the computer and has no chart, that I should have called to confirm. I said if he's not in the computer then how did you email me a confirmation and how did I fill out all the forms online. She was rude and didn't care. The office was dark and dingy and had about 40+ people waiting and no more seats to sit in. She told the person in front of me that it's always a 2-3 hour wait. I'm happy they didn't have the appointment in the schedule because I could leave and find another doctor. Terrible. Do not book with them! read more

I went in with a 1:00 appointment and there were people there with 10:00 and 10:40 appointments who had not been seen. The receptionist told me that a 4-6 hour wait was normal. Trashiest receptionist who sits on her computer watching tv and on her phone while ignoring everyone that comes up and asks how much longer after waiting for over 2 hours to go to the back to see the doctor. I have been feeling for months that the doctor is just telling us that my kid still needs to come see him until his eyes are better but that its just to get our money. He is supposed to be the professional and the expert yet him and his employees are horrible "humans" who could give a **** about people, their kids, their problems, and their schedules. Every review you see is what we go through every single time we are there. TERRIBLE. read more

This office is the worse for pediatric eye care. They give you an appointment and overbook the appointments. The lobby is jammed pack full of people with no where to sit down. People were standing up all along the walls of the lobby filling out paper work! Then you have to wait up to TWO HOURS for an APPOINTMENT you booked!!!! They don't wash their hands before touching your toddlers face and eyes, then have an attitude when you ask them to sanitize their hands. The front desk has an attitude out of this world! They're so unprofessional. I waited for 4 weeks to get my toddler in and her glasses were not ready when they were supposed to be ready. I had to wait over A MONTH FOR HER GLASSES. Parents just find another pediatric eye care specialist. DO NOT waste your time. I ended up ordering my daughter a cute $20 frame on Amazon, took the prescription to Walmart eye center and got them filled for $60 and they wanted me to pay $100+ for her glasses there. Just ridiculous. My daughter was wearing her glasses that were filled by Walmart over a week before they called me to pick up her glasses, over 6 weeks for toddler glasses. Ridiculous. Do NOT GO HERE!!!!! read more

Unprofessional. 3pm appointment with 3 kids, 1 being a baby. It's now 6pm and still waiting. Told they don't know when we will go in the back and we could be here until 8-10pm. Like WTH. Stay away from this doctor. Bad Reviews and all other bad reviews from this office are accurate. He will make you keep coming back for so much testing, a long waiting period, you don't get to see Dr Saimon until last couple minutes. Very horrible place. His office has very inaccurate reviews poster inside waiting area. It shows all good review he is the best. He is not. He can be replaced with any other doctors out there. The function for this office is not in right place. He is not worth seeing neither waiting. Anyone can find better doctor than him. Of course more people be more payment that leads to staff salary so they will continue to overbook. There are so many unhappy people who wasted to see this doctor. read more

I should have read these reviews before scheduling an appointment for my son. Working in the medical field I understand doctors run behind , cancellations and no shows happen so you over book your schedule to compensate but the extensive wait time that we experienced was absurd. We had an appointment at 1:30PM, we were not seen by the doctor until 3:30PM and we probably would have waited longer if I didn't speak up . In addition they do not tell you when booking an appointment but they do not take vision insurance , and most insurances will not cover a portion of there eye exam which is the part you need in order to get a perscription for glasses or contacts . They charge you an additional $50 outside of your copay in order to recieve an perscription . Which again they do not tell you prior to your appointment. The front desk staff were extremely unprofessional , Dr Simons only came in the room for maybe 2 minutes to let us know we needed to schedule a follow up , which we absolutely will not be doing . The only person who was helpful and knowledgeable was a gentleman who was an assisting physician who actually did the exam for Dr Simons . I would NEVER recommend this practice to anyone. We were referred by our pediatrician and I will be sure to inform our pediatrician to not send patients there moving forward . We will not be going back and highly recommend those booking an appointment to read the reviews prior as they are spot on to the experience that we experienced. read more

This is the most unprofessional unorganized business I've ever seen ran they really need to be shut down from the front desk all the way to management... My daughter was being seen here and I took her on a day where the lady who did the lenses was on vacation so the lady covering for her charged me 60 instead of the 120 gave me a day to come pick up my daughters glasses I went back and they informed me they didn't even have my daughter in their system so we went back and forth for at least a month for them to finally say they found her information in another child's chart 1st mistake then they said they can finally order the glasses because they were never ordered so after we finally got the glasses a month almost 2 went by and I call and ask are follow ups not mandatory I mean they should be you just put glasses on a 3 year old and send her about her life so now they are telling me they can't schedule a follow up because Esther put in the chart I have a balance but Esther was the person that informed me because of the inconvenience I would not have to pay the other 60 I mean regardless I shouldn't have had to because that's what your office charged me covering for someone else or not everyone should be trained to a certain extent so now fast forward today the receptionist transferred me to Diana after me telling them the only person I want to talk to is Esther because that's who I've been dealing with and I was tired of repeating the story as to why I'm not covering the balance so Diana says and I quote are you gonna let me talk now first of all you lied to us saying you paid for her glasses and you didn't but Esther herself told me she found my receipt which is how she managed to inform me the lady charged me the wrong price now I'm being called a liar so I cursed Diana out and they red flagged my kids account and said they can't come back which is fine they leave you in the waiting room for 4 hours before even giving you paper work to fill out I would give 0 stars read more

Is there an option for no stars?! What a JOKE this place is. Drove 30 mins with my newborn and my 13 month old, to walk into a completely PACKED waiting room, and told to go wait in my car. Waited an hour and 15 mins before calling the office and asking them what the heck was going on. They said "oh you'll be soon" I said this is ridiculous, why in the world would you over book that much?! Makes no sense. Anyway, chalked it up as a bad day, had them reschedule me to a different office the following day. That office, EVEN MORE PACKED than the other one. There must have been 50 people waiting around and another 10 in line in front of me to check in!! What the hell is going on here? Y'all are crazy to make all these people and their children wait so damn long. Stop taking so many appointments!!! A guy walked out as I walked up, and says "this place is a joke!! I've been here for 2 hours and haven't seen a doctor." Another lady sitting on a couch said "yeah I've been here since 10am" ((it was 1:45 at this point)) DO NOT GO HERE. Jupiter or Port Saint Lucie. Do not give this thief any of your time or money. Go somewhere else. Trust me. This is the absolute worst place to have to go. Starting with the lady at the front desk, rude, condescending... To say the least. The waiting room, which you can expect to wait at least 2 hours, smells and is hot and over crowded. I bought my son a $250 pair of glasses and Dr. Simon requires us to sit here and see him, get charged another copay so he can bill the insurance just so he can check his glasses, prescription and fit. This is a complete scam. I have bought his glasses at other places and they just give you the glasses, fit them on his face and free to go. Not here, Dr Simon wants to squeeze every penny out of you. He doesn't answer any questions about your children's eyes. He could care less about your time and money. He just wants to see you as many times as he can get you here so he can take your money and collect the insurance money. Dr Simon I have brought my son here for 2 years only because when I tried to switch to Bascolm Palmer a year ago your staff was going to charge ME over $200 to transfer records to a new Dr. You should be ashamed of yourself. You have no consideration for other people's time and money. The fact that you think we are dumb enough to not see through you and know exactly why I sit here and wait for you to check my sons eyes after spending over $200 at your office for glasses is absolutely disgusting. These glasses should have been checked for their prescription prior to me picking them up. That's how ALL other places do it. read more

Delightful experience! We are two retirees who recently moved to Florida and needed complete eye check ups. Nothing but a bunch of crooks. The staff is horrible! The wait is at least 2 hours. Dealing with this office was the worst experience.

Wait time is ridiculous, customer service is terrible. They close the door in your face at receptionist.

Upon arriving I talked to an elderly couple who seemed quite upset about there experience the day before. On this day they were once again getting quite flustered with the service from the girl at the desk. Not only did I drive 30 minutes to talk to someone who seems more inclined to sit behind her desk twirling her thumbs rather than work. But I never even saw the doctor canceled my appointment and will take my business elsewhere. There honestly are plenty of places to go to get your eyes checked and taken care of, all of which are better than this.
