My friend and work suggested that we pass by here. I was surprised that I have never heard of this spot before. It is definitely a hidden gem. The menu had a wide array of choices I wanted something filling yet healthy I got the chihuahua bowl. The taste was average. I had the Nutella crossiant and cookies. So I wanted tea in the Miami area and was searching for a place (when I first came to Miami in August 2017, it was particularly hot). So I made my way to SpecialTEA, located in a moderately sized plaza. It's kinda close to a university, so I'm pretty sure they're the ones that are coming over here. This place is kinda small but does actually have seating. Unfortunately, this place is so popular that it was packed the two times I went. They have a bunch of games that you can check out and play if need be as well. I went for a spiced chai latte (iced). I enjoyed having the accentuated taste (yay cinnamon) and it was insanely flavorful. It probably would be better when it's hot and the flavors would come together, but I was in Miami on a humid summer's day. haha. Iced matcha latte. Half sugar. I don't know why but I really enjoy having their matcha because their flavor is really good. Mixed with their milk, it's actually a better quality than I would expect from a boba shop in Miami. Definitely something to try, but beware that it's an extra $1 for the matcha. They are located inside a plaza with plenty of parking, you have to look closely though, it's easy to miss the place. They offer plenty of board games for their guests, comfy couches, a workstation for up to three guests. The coffee was pretty good, I went with my usual cappuccino, it didn't compare to other coffee houses that I visited during the same week. This is probably one of the best coffee/tea shops in Miami-Dade. Keep in mind I haven't been to too many. The costumer service here is great which is rare out here. First of all I'm not even a big fan of tea or coffee but if I only came here for tea or coffee. They'd still get a five star rating from me. They have such a large variety of flavors to choose from for tea. Plus if you're not familiar with all the flavors they have little test tube containers to smell each flavor and even a screen that further informs you about each flavor. I believe the tea I had shared from a pot was raspberry flavor I cannot recall the exact name but it was good. I had ordered the coconut curry rice bowl and that was delicious. The coconut flavor sauce on the side really complimented the dish with the perfect amount of sweetness. Also there vegan cookies are surprisingly good They plenty of parking outside it's located in a plaza but as far seating inside they're a little limited on space I believe it's due to the popularity of the spot. They have board games as well which is pretty dope. I'd definitely recommend this as a spot to study at if you don't mind a little noise. It is next to a college, so it had a nice college vibe with plenty of outlets for working. I loved how healthy their menu was and the flexibility to turn their items into a salad, sandwich, or wrap. I literally LOVE specialtea so much. I'm never disappointed with my order when I go. My go to is definitely the frozen mango boba slushie but you can't go wrong with anything. The matcha freeze is also amazing if you're into matcha. I haven't tried much of the frozen coffees but the caramel one is AMAZING!! Everyone who works there is super nice and make sure you really like what you got. If you don't they'll easily switch it out for you. It also has great vegan and vegetarian options if that's for you. I just had to share my distasteful experience this morning at Special Tea. I've been coming here for over 5 years now. I also order every single morning on Uber eats. I say this because 1. I have Crohn's disease so my food options are very limited and once I find a food spot I can have I basically marry it. And 2. Because since I am so immunocompromised I am always battling with infections and illnesses that make life a little difficult. I've had the worst case of allergies and eye infections on both eyes that caused me to not be able to work from my house this morning so I figured I can take a couple of calls at the lounge stress free while eating my routine breakfast. Now I am completely aware of the policy that only two people are allowed at the booths. I told the manager Farrah that I can't sit near the blinds because it will cause more eye irritation so if she could please excuse me sitting in the booth for a bit I legit said I will eat and leave. She came three times trying to get me out of the booth and then proceeded to turn off the wifi basically kicking me out with out saying it. As a loyal returning customer I've never had the worst taste in my mouth and not because of me not being able to sit at the booth for health reasons, but because of the unsympathetic and rude attitude the manager had with me. I know if they wanted to they can be accommodating specially when I was the only one human body there at the moment. I was not planning on staying all day but I was basically forced out of the lounge during the time I had an important work meeting which again is the only reason why I was there. The manager Farrah gave me the owners business card to contact him instead and went to the back leaving the lounge unattended for around 30 minutes until I stood up and left. I understand there is a strict policy, I understand she can be the one that gets in trouble for allowing one person to sit in a booth, but honestly out of probably the thousands of dollars I've spent there - because of her I legit rather pay double to another company that doesn't make me feel so badly over something I honestly didn't think would be such a big deal. I don't know how much they value having a good environment for their customers but today is genuinely the last day I give special tea any of my money. I don't expect everyone to go asking for an exception every single day but when it's something legitimately health related and you can see I need more accommodation, the manager should reconsider how she speaks to customers. I'm not one to do this but I'm incredibly disappointed by this service. I was the absolute only person in the Lounge for a good 45 minutes, saying that if she wanted to accommodate me for a little bit she could've but chose to be rude and direct me to the owner instead. If you have health issues for whatever reason, stay away from Special Tea. They do not accommodate or consider what the customer might be dealing with health wise. Go to Starbucks! They offer wifi and won't harass you into leaving their location. read more

This a cute hidden gem of a tea lounge. It's not too large of a place so I can see seating being tricky during busy times. They have a happy hour from 4-7 I believe, but I was there earlier so I'm not certain what's included. I did overhear them say half off but still unsure what they were referencing. There is also free WiFi which was nice so I was able to catch up on some work on my lap The food is also pretty good. Their frozen boba tea is probably the best I've ever had. specialTEA is an absolutely tea-rrific option for organic bites around the Tamiami/FIU area. They serve up some great smoothies, coffees, teas, wraps, paninis, bowls, and most importantly, baked goods! I had their Ay Chihuahua wrap and it was delicious. The wrap has chicken, chihuahua cheese, home made guacamole, and spicy mayo. I got it on the tomato basil wrap, but there's also whole wheat, spinach, and garlic and herb as options. The Ay Chihuahua normally comes with an organic corn and bean salsa, but they were unfortunately out the day I went. My favorite item at specialTEA has to be their cookies. Their cookies are all vegan, but still have the same texture and all the flavor of a regular cookie. The best cookie hands down is the Matcha Chocolate Chip. I know it sounds weird and has a green tinted appearance, but you will not be disappointed. The only drawback to the specialTEA location is that it is tiny. Odds are you won't find a seat because there are FIU students studying there. It is unfortunate that customers can't sit inside and enjoy the ambiance because people sit in the restaurant for hours and hours studying, even without ordering food. Considering that the restaurant is this small, more should be done on behalf of the business to allow customers to eat their food fresh from the kitchen. For this reason, I gave the restaurant four stars instead of five because I believe customers should be able to find seating and not be forced to do takeout continuously. read more

This place is adorable! I love the small cafe vibe that you get from this place. Even though they are working on an expansion, I don't think it will take away from the escence. They have booths, tables, and couch style seating. There's a small selection of about 20 board games you and your friends can play while there. My friends and I had a blast with taboo. I was so surprised I hadn't stopped by this eatery earlier. Having been an FIU alumni and (current student) going back to school a second time around there...I can't believe I haven't gone in. She walked me through everything...all the tea options, the cookies options, and the best part is they had vegan options. I'm not 100% vegan...more pescatarian if anything, but for those that are super super vegan, like devoutly so...this place is totally for them. I had to buy some cookies for sure. I definitely splurged. I got a traditional chocolate chip, a double chocolate chunk, and an Oreo one. That one was the best by far. I also had a Hibiscus tea. It tasted good...very natural...I probably should've added some sweetener to it or honey, but it hit the spot. I also got to create my own sandwich which was vegan. The homemade BBQ sauce was an acquired taste to be honest. It was yellowish in color and not like a traditional bbq sauce (which is probably bad for you and loaded with artificial sweeteners and preservatives) so that's probably why theirs had a different taste..cause it was healthy..still though I ate it. I had a chicken substitute which I believe was tofu. It was quite spongy and not like a typical meat alternative but it still fared well with me. It was the perfect lunch to have before studying at school. I will say though my favorite part where the sweets. Note that there is no indoor seating due to COVID. They have it blocked off. It didn't take away from my experience. One got the staff brought me my sandwich personally so I didn't have to wait and stand there. Would I be back? i came to the plaza for dunkin but i saw the tea & such outside & decided to try something local, a tad more ethical & IM SO GLAD! i usually feel rlly bad after places like dunkin bc everything is usually frozen & such. I was so happy to the the variety of options, i love chai & got the frozen vanilla bean option. the cashier was so sweet & helpful! the place is really cozy with couches & the food & drinks come out super quick. The prices were also amazing, for 15 bucks i would have gotten a stomach ache at dunkin but i left feeling full & happy with my chicken bacon salad bowl & frozen chai. I've been coming here in my early college days (Go Panthers!) ever since it had started and I'm proud of it's progress! Even the menu had went through changes over the years. My go-to drink back then was their Grasshopper frappe with soy milk to cut down on the sweetness. But lately I've been enjoying their lattes and never had a bad one! Food-wise, you can come here at any time of day and enjoy their sandwiches (panino, the singular term of panini -- learned about that concept from here lol), wraps, salads, etc. for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Even their snacks and baked goods are pretty good -- so far I'm hooked on their matcha chocolate chip cookies. I've been wanting to try their matcha marble bread but it's always out whenever I come so the hunt still continues! The only thing preventing me from giving this full stars is the space. The booths are only reserved for parties greater than two people, which I see makes sense, but then that already limits single parties to seating. There is a comfy couch where you can play games and that's awesome but from a student's perspective, it isn't study-friendly if you need table-space. But I guess that's what Green Library is for across the street, lol. I come here to eat and run, and on occasion to catch up with friends -- it's a great place for that! And their hours extended to close at 12 am so that's suuuuuuper convenient to grab a late night bite after dance classes on campus. Also, Yelpers, you get a check-in perk!
