He started with Ms. Mikula after working with three other therapist who couldn't connect with him. He just wasn't talking. Now after several months he uses words and sentences with total regulatory and is not frustrated. He is able to focus and is spontaneous in his vocabulary. I am so appreciative his pediatrician recommended Tricia Mikula and that she worked us into her schedule. Her hands on approach with our grandson and his family was a godsend. He will start preschool with communication skills instead of the frustration he experienced before he started therapy with her. She works with the entire family and has clear weekly goals that are attainable and built the a foundation that we needed to help our grandson learn to talk. I highly recommend her to other families.

The spinal injury left me with a weak leg and I was unable to walk. After three hours of physical therapy and occupational therapy per day for two weeks, I was able to walk with a walker and I'm now at home. (To the cat's great relief.) Following the surgery I was not allowed to bend or twist my back or to lean. The physical and occupational therapists helped me understand what I was capable of and taught me new ways to perform daily tasks using devices such as a reacher to pick things up and a tool to put socks on. Everyone was caring, helpful, and supportive.

It was a clean and beautiful facility, even though it was under construction, it did not affect the ambience of the facility. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs to rehab from a surgery or from a stroke or heart attack, All I the equipment was nice and clean. They were constantly sanitizing and cleaning the equipment every time it was used. I never felt so safe and had a good workout as well. I suggest the facility. for anyone looking for a place that has great staff and attitude excellent service and help to get back to your regularly scheduled life.!

My ex got hearing aids here years ago and I remember her saying how much she liked the place. Odd parking- a few spots out front, most up in the rear- but you still have to come down to the front door to get in, hard if you're older or the weather is bad. Fronts two busy streets, at least at rush hour.

After a couple years of speaking extremely loud, asking people to repeat themselves, and saying…read more"huh?" over and over throughout the day, it was time to face the facts. I have a hearing problem, a serious one. Three years of prescription medications, wholistic treatments, laying of hands/prayer, and two different ENT specialists, it was time for a real solution. A quick Yelp search points me in this direction. The reviews were a little confusing, I wasn't sure if this office only served children. One phone call explained the available services and scheduled an appointment with an audiologists within two days. It's not just for kids with speech problems. The building itself is also confusing. There is a playground which gives it an elementary school feel. Once inside it is a regular office building. Rebecca Lockhart is her name. This is one of the best doctor visits I have ever had in my life. Actually, I'm not sure if audiologists are considered doctors. Regardless, she was so kind, knowledgeable, and understanding. She administered every test possible. Ringing, buzzing, humming, graphs, charts, and so on. My hearing was not only tested but I was educated on how hearing and ears work! Basically, I've been misdiagnosed by two specialists, it's not a eustachian tube problem but a cochlea issue. I have irreversible hearing loss in one ear. I'm mad, sad, and way too vain to accept the idea of needing a hearing aide. Jessica comforted me, (I'm broken-hearted, I'm too young for this, yes I'm vain and shallow) schooled me on the types/prices of hearing aides and let me try one out. She also set an appointment with an "ear only" specialist for a second medical opinion. I will forever remember her for the care and compassion she showed. In closing, if you have any issues with your hearing, I strongly recommend you come here and visit Jessica Lockhart. She is very thorough, not only with the office exam but also with follow up care. One last thing, I wasn't aware that most health insurance companies do not cover hearing aides. Total B.S.! I need to find out who I complain to about this!

After a very painful night, I decided the next morning I should probably go the E.R. at St. Ann's. But, then I was transported to Mount Carmel West, because St. Ann's didn't have a trauma team. They performed surgery to repair my first two vertebrae, and rings under those. After several weeks of intensive inpatient therapy I was told that outpatient therapy would be setup for me. We decided to go to WESTAR Rehab and Sports Medicine in Westerville, where they could work with my traumatic brain injury. WESTAR staff provided an extensive, therapeutic, personal and professional plan of action to help me regain communication skills, cognitive functioning, day-to-day motor skills, and physical strengthening and balance. The primary P.T. assigned to me was Rhyan, who oversaw my whole plan of therapy at WESTAR, my Speech Therapist, Jenna helped me regain some of my cognitive functioning, increase my speech skills, make substantial gains in creating thought patterns, to put words together to produce coherent sentences and even develop tools to help with my difficulty when swallowing. Whereas, my occupational therapist, Chelsea, helped me develop writing skills, and due to my broken neck, and lack of movement, boost some of my motor skills. Both Jenna and Chelsea were always friendly, helpful, supportive, engaging, and encouraging. After working with OT for several weeks, Chelsea decided I should understand some tough news: due to my broken neck, and inability to turn my head far enough either way, (to the right, left, up and down) I should think about the fact that I may have to surrender my driver's license. Not only was this hard news to hear, but we could tell that it was really tough for her to deliver it with us. With tears in the eyes of all of us, I sort of anticipated the inevitability of her words. I knew I would not be safe on the road to myself or others. But, Chelsea obviously empathized with my dilemma. Jenna and Chelsea, as my speech and occupational therapists were seen several times a week for nearly eight months. Both of these people were always personable, courteous, fun, and helpful as they pushed me out of my comfort zone to challenge myself to develop and increase my cognitive skills to think more clearly, express my thoughts and ideas, to increase my long-term memory skills, and to learn and practice methods for developing alternate ways of thinking when I had trouble coming up with the exact word or phrase or remembering thoughts, ideas, persons and things that I wanted to recall when speaking. I learned new ways that helped me speak with increased volume and clarity. Due to my fractured neck and subsequent surgery, I had difficulty swallowing some foods, but especially medicines that were very big, yet the doctor had ordered them for me to take. I couldn't cut them or crush them into smaller, more manageable pills because they would lose their potency. My difficulty with swallowing was evaluated by Jenna, my speech therapist and I was taught methods that would help me swallow with less trouble. (Putting applesauce in a spoon with one pill at a time, was especially helpful even with the largest of pills.) After some time and continued therapies with my neck, my surgeon told the physical therapists at WestStar they could now focus more on strengthening and manipulating my neck. So, my PT instructors, Rhyan (my primary PT, responsible for overseeing my progress), Vikki, Shawn, Mikayla, and Vince were all given carte blanche to direct their therapy regimen in the direction of my head, neck, and shoulders. I was involved with speech, occupational, and physical therapies for a long time. As a result I am doing so much better. But, for a time, I thought some of the equipment came to my therapist's directly from the dungeon of the Marquis de Sade. It sure felt like it. However, I am stronger, think and talk more clearly, and can write more legibly and physically grasp things much better. I wear my gait belt each day so others can support me more easily and use my walker for mobility. I surrendered my driver's license. That won't change, but I'm ok with that. All of the staff at WESTAR helped me to accept the things I can't do and to appreciate the things that I can do. Later, my wife's orthopedic doctor suggested that she have some PT, also at WESTAR for her back pain and then her shoulders. She is still undergoing PT with Emily as her primary PT, but also working either with Rhyan, Mikayla, Shawn or Vince two-days-a-week. Should you ever be in the need of any therapeutic help in these areas, I recommend talking to your doctor about WestStar Rehab and Sports Medicine in Westerville, just off of Cleveland Ave.
