Our experience working with this venue was great! Tucked away and very spacious. The owners were always close by if we needed them.

But what made it truly unforgettable was Rachel and her incredible team. From the very beginning, Rachel made everything feel easy. She's organized, intuitive, calm, and somehow manages to be both laid-back and on top of every detail. I never felt overwhelmed, never stressed. I fully trusted her, and that trust paid off a thousand times over. The florals were perfect--gorgeous but not fussy, exactly in tune with the setting and the vibe we'd envisioned. Her staff was so kind and attentive, and the whole event flowed effortlessly thanks to their care and presence. Guests kept commenting on how beautiful everything was, but also how relaxed and fun the day felt. There was no pretense or pressure--just love, laughter, tacos (SO GOOD), and pure joy. Rachel also helped us source our hair and makeup artist (who was amazing), our dessert vendor (adorable and delicious), and even supported our late-night In-N-Out plan. She managed every piece of the puzzle with grace and humor, and made sure we got to actually enjoy our wedding day. (Which we did. Fully. With Palomas. And a piano man. And guacamole on my dress.) We've joked with our guests about making this an annual thing, and honestly? We might not be joking. Yokayo is that special. And if you're lucky enough to have Rachel by your side, you're in very good hands.

I didn't realize Nelson Family Vineyards was offering a historical reenactment experience, because…read morethe moment I walked in, it felt like I had accidentally stepped into a time period this country should've retired decades ago. The energy was very much "hospitality from a bygone era," and not in the quaint, charming way, more like the dusty, uncomfortable chapter no one should be proud of. While certain customers were treated like visiting dignitaries, I was met with the kind of selective service that made me wonder if I missed a sign on the door explaining what unspoken criteria you have to meet to get acknowledged. It's almost impressive how obviously the staff following the tone set by Tyler and Chris Nelson can divide the room without saying a single word. And the wine? Let's just say if you're going to run your service like it's stuck in a different century, at least make the wine good enough to distract people. Instead, the wines taste as tired as the attitude, flat, uninspired, and definitely not worth the emotional archaeology required to survive the vibe here. Meanwhile, others were getting the deluxe treatment while I stood around wondering if I needed to dust myself off to prove I wasn't part of the furniture. The whole experience felt like an unintentional social experiment in favoritism. Do yourself a favor and skip the time-travel tour. Dancing Crow down the road exists firmly in the present day, friendly staff, actual hospitality, and wine that tastes like it was made in this century, not the last three. Nelson Family Vineyards? If you like outdated attitudes and underwhelming wine, sure. Otherwise, keep driving.

The tasting room itself is stunning, with soaring 40-foot ceilings arching over a central fountain--worth a visit just for the architecture. Flights are $10, and our host was especially generous, letting us try a few wines not listed on the menu. The wines were enjoyable, and the prices refreshingly reasonable compared to many other wineries these days.

When we arrived the lone worker was obviously busy and we were disturbing her. When I said I wanted to do a wine tasting she quickly set up the glasses, quickly put the small amounts of wine in each glass, handed me a list of the wines and walked away. No information, no history of the company, no tales of the land (and isn't that why we visit these places?). About 3 tastes in she asked "how is that?" That was it. I told my husband, even before I'd tasted them all, that there was no way I'd buy any of this wine, no matter how good it was, because the service was dismal. Though the grounds and building are beautiful I was so disappointed. I do not think we will stop here again. We love to go to tasting rooms and get educated and always come away having learned something as well as having a lovely time. Not so at Barra. The service certainly needs work.

And this was only the second winery that I had been to during the event. I usually try not to purchase too heavily at the beginning of a wine event because I tend to find great wines at the last wineries that I visit. But woo wee, I struck gold here and couldn't leave without some wine. Rivino is a family owned boutique winery that's nestled in the hillside of Ukiah. This is not typically where I go wine tasting, but this wonderful wine tasting event exposed me to what I've been missing on this side of town. Their grounds are extremely charming! Their estate overlooks their beautiful ranch and vineyards and also features an entertainment space where they throw events and have live music from time to time. Winemaker Jason McConnell was there at the event pouring wines and mingling with guests and staff. He is definitely a character and has so many entertaining stories. You can tell that he really enjoys producing his wine and he is super confident about it too. But he has a right to be because wow is that wine delicious! Not only did he pour us their special event wines, but he also hooked us up with tastes of several of his personal faves. He even asked me what my favorite wines were and had me taste a few wines that he knew would satisfy my palate. What's amazing is that they have great whites AND reds. Usually I've found that one is better than the other, but they are both superb here. Oh yeah, and they're Blanc de Blanc Sparkling is also delicious! Their white wines are top notch. I was extremely impressed with their Pinot Blanc, Estate Chardonnay, and Viognier. Pinot Blanc is usually hard for me to find unless i'm in or near this area (Mendocino/Anderson Valley), so I knew I was going home with a bottle of it right after the first sip. Their estate Chardonnay is so crisp, citrusy, and tropical. I had to have it. So amazing. And their reds! To die for. Loved their estate Sedulous Red Blend and their yummy Cab Franc, but ultimately fell in love with their bright and fruity Tiger Juice red blend. So joyfully fruity and jammy. It also came home with me. Yeah, their wines are definitely fine with me. The only reason why I'm rating 4 stars instead of 5 is because a few of the staff members had attitudes and some of the exchanges between these ladies and the winemaker were kind of weird and at times... uncomfortable. Not really sure what's going on there but take what you want from that information. But even with that, it didn't ruin the fun time that I had here. The wine is superb and I can see why they have so many great accolades in the area.

We signed the contract and paid $800 cash up front (half of the total base rental fee for the day) with the agreement that I would continue to make cash payments until I had paid the rest of the rental fee and optional cleaning fee as written in the contract. Over the Christmas holiday our family circumstances/plans abruptly changed and we realized that we needed to cancel our event due to a need to move out of the area. I called Rocio Ortega on Sunday, January 1st to notify her of our choice to cancel the rental. I acknowledged that although the contract says we forfeit half the rental fee (so the $800 we initially paid) that I would like her to consider refunding us half that amount due to cancelling so far in advance. During that conversation she expressed reluctance to honor that request but ultimately said she wanted to talk to her husband about it and would get back to me in "a week or so." Today's date is February 9th, 2023 and Rocio has not only failed to get back to me as promised, but there has been zero response to multiple texts, phone calls and emails from both myself and my husband. Even if the choice is not to honor my request for partial refund, ghosting me is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! I have subsequently learned that Rocio has several unpaid invoices with my employer from events the company has contracted for and is dodging their calls as well. The venue itself is a lovely, historical building but highly recommend NOT doing business with Rocio Ortega.

Lisa, the manager I believe, is aware of these problems but has no immediate plans to fix them. When the contract was signed, we declined use of their stereo and lighting options. She came in DURING our wedding reception and tried to harangue us into using these systems(there is an additional cost to them). She turned on the lighting, and then left without turning them off, even though we reiterated we didn't want to rent them or the sound system. Then she charged us for the lights and took it out of the cleaning deposit. When we pointed out this was a violation of the contract, she took that charge off, but increased what she had already charged us for cleaning by that same amount. So, while the building was adequate, the aggravation of dealing with Lisa and the contract made the overall experience one we would not repeat or recommend.
