We arrived fairly late in the evening after a long day of driving. The rooms in the Bunkhouse were decorated in an eclectic Western Ranch decor. Super clean and very private. The beds are older but slept well. Breakfast was ready for us at 8 am, served by our hosts, consisted of a delicious egg bake, coffee, toast, pastry, and cereal and milk for the kids. Conversation with our hosts was easy and friendly. I definitely felt welcome. We entered as guests and left as friends. We will stay here again! The price point was very reasonable for family of five.

Full disclosure: Linda and Bert are former coworkers of mine. That being said they are running a…read moregreat B&B near Deadwood, SD. We found the place right near downtown Spearfish. It is a great location that is close to their little downtown and near the river. When you arrive you'll note that the B&B is actually two buildings. A large Victorian house and a small cottage with attached gazebo. She has many, many rooms! The cottage is a two bedroom with a kitchenette and I believe they call it the Honeymoon cottage. They also have a multi-bed suite in the attic area and in the basement. These would be perfect for families or couples traveling together. Linda a Bert share the main floor along with the main living room and dining room. Lastly there is the second floor, which has individual bedrooms. This is where we stayed. This was a B&B before Linda and Bert bought it so much of the furniture and decor was there... however it is apparent in each of the rooms the many antiques Linda herself has collected over the years. The best part of staying here though were Linda and Bert. I know I had a previous relationship but I saw them interacting with the other guests. Bert was helping out the large group of women (medical transcriptionists on a work retreat) and they both welcomed a couple from Finland while we were there. That night we were told not to eat dessert out because they had homemade apple pie for everyone. The crust was even made by Linda's mom from scratch! It was the perfect end to the evening (we had dinner at Shoot the Bull... see that review)! The next morning was breakfast. With the place being so full they had breakfast in shifts, which was fine. It was nice to mingle with the other guests and have discussions. Linda's niece was also over to help and along with Bert made sure you constantly had something fabulous in front of you. There was a fruit, yogurt, granola parfait, breakfast au gratin potatoes, a breakfast quiche among other things. In the end it was a great time. So good in fact, that my wife and I were very disappointed when we got over to the family reunion and were staying in a below average Days Inn. After seeing how they handled the group of coworkers (which were between 15-20) it was apparent that they could handle a group. Both my wife and I thought about how great it would have been if the reunion had been at Yesterday's Inn. In talking with Linda there were discussions about her hosting events over the holidays so you might inquire about that. They are still learning and figuring out the B&B business but they really love to entertain and have all the different people buzzing about their place. They have many stories about the different guests they have received over the past couple of years. I highly encourage you to plan to stop there for a stay and enjoy Spearfish.

We spent as much time exploring Spearfish and beyond and loved every bit of South Dakota. I encourage anyone considering snowmobile rental in the Black Hills SD area to avoid "Black Hills…read moresnowmobile rental" at all cost. Myself and 9 family members booked a trip in the summer of 2014 with "Jake" . Before departing for our trip in February 2015 we called "Jake " to make sure there would be enough snow and that the brand new sleds he promised would be ready. Jake assured us that there was a four foot snow base and the sleds were all ready to go. Upon arrival at the rental location we found several old, worn out and poorly maintained snowmobiles. There was also no snow base with the occasional inch or less of packed snow/ice between the rocks and dirt... We expressed our concerns to Jake about the trail conditions and were assured that the trails would get better " just over the hill" . We mentioned to Jake that maybe canceling the rental would be a good idea, but his response was " I have no money but I can give hugs all day".... At this we figured we might as well see what was " over the hill" as Jake was paid months ahead and was keeping the money. We went out to the lot to find the " brand new sleds " Jake had promised us. There where no new sleds, all had been patched together with zippy ties and duct tape. Most where 10 years old or more, 3 were only 5 years old. All had various degrees of damage. Many did not start and all had some sort of issue that took hours to patch together. Mine was the best of the lot with no working reverse, minimal if any braking, zippy tied front plastic, bent control arms and a slipping drive belt. Some of the others needed pull started and two of the ones we did leave the rental shop with broke down in less than 25 miles.. Jake had us park the sleds at a different location than where we rented them, then used our truck to shuttle the drivers of the sleds. The next day when we drove the approximate 30 miles to get the sleds , we were met by a disgruntled man instructing us to get all of these sleds off his property and referred to Jake as "a crook". The third sled to break down lost a control arm and its drive track in less than 90 miles which stranded that rider. Jake is presently trying to extort money from several renters for fraudulent reasons. Jake was very insistent that we all have insurance on the sleds and asked that we park them along side the road with the keys in them. Not sure if this is standard practice but I found it suspicious . At the very kindest I could say Jake, (aka Michael J Rohr), is a fraudulent "businessman" but personally feel he is nothing more than a common criminal. Avoid renting here at all cost.

We found this cute little cottage on Air BNB and booked a room for Friday July 22, 2016. We had a…read moreconcert that evening and love to stay at non traditional places when we travel. This was such a cute, clean cottage! The owner was so very friendly and provided us everything we needed including some fresh eggs and other breakfast items for us to prepare. We will definitely return for another visit and hopefully get to stay a little longer next time! It was close enough to all the downtown excitement that we walked to our concert and enjoyed the beautiful weather!

I noticed that there were some reviews from a couple of years ago that were bad here... I discussed this with the owwner and she indicated she took it over about 2 years ago and revamped it. Please look at the recent reviews and disregard the older ones. WHat I experienced was not anything resembling the older reviews. She has done a wonderful job.
