My wife and I decided to take a road trip from our home in Denver to Fargo ND, why Fargo? Because…read moreit's there! We were going to head home from Fargo when on a whim we thought we'd detour over to Wyoming to visit "Devil's Tower" In almost the same way we picked Fargo (throwing a dart at a map) we picked the Ace Motel in Belle Fourche just because it sounded like a nice place. The Ace motel was much more than a nice place, it is a quaint oasis in the wild lands of South Dakota. It felt like a Twilight Zone experience (and I mean this is the most positive way) we were suddenly in the courtyard of a 50's type motor inn. Going into the office we were greeted by Vicki the owner/manager/and more and received the warmest of welcomes. She said that she hoped we don't mind an old fashioned 50's feel, and we didn't mind that at all. We were given a key (YES A REAL KEY) on a diamond shaped plastic key chain (come on remember those). Opening our the door, we found our room had that old fashioned feeling but with some modern conveniences. The Ace motel is a great break from the "corporate cookie cutter" rooms you find in the big chains. Do yourself a real favor and if you have the chance to stay here, do it! A piece of advice BOOK YOUR ROOM DIRECTLY THRU THE ACE MOTEL SITE OR PHONE! I tell you this because those web hotel sites that have those TV Ads, they rip-off the small independent hotel/motel owner, the percentage those Big sites take basically take most if not all the profit for the owner. Support your independent businesses and check out the Ace Motel.

A great deal of attention has been paid to detail. The architecture is wonderful. The room was so charming and very comfortable. The beds and linens were the best. The bathroom also spotless with a very good shower. It is the first bathroom that I have actually put my toiletries on a shelf without a wash cloth underneath. The staff was more than friendly and accommodating. The coffee shop very nice. I travel to Fort Meade about once a year and it was very handy to be right down the road. We are planning on staying again next year.

Balconies on some of the second floor rooms. Coffee shop downstairs and 24 hour water and coffee available. Lovely two story seating area and back deck on 2nd floor. Excellent location on Main Street within walking distance of many restaurants. Leigh was super helpful and patient with our indecision on whether to stay one nights or two. we opted for two. Would happily stay here again. Not a lot open in mid April but we did visit New To You, Loud American Bar & Grill and Rossini Gypsy Tattoo Parlor, Uncle Louie's and Red's Bar & Grill. These rooms are unique, clean and comfy. Original (?) tin ceilings. Motorized shades for windows.

The breakfast was scrambled eggs, waffles, yogurt, fresh fruit, we had biscuits and gravy that morning and the coffee was just right. They also had apple juice and orange juice. But the thing that I want you to be aware of is that they've done a retrofit on some of their locks and so our room 109 needed repair. We would not have been aware of it if somebody hadn't tried to get into our room, he was at the wrong room, but he was able to open the door and thank gosh I had the safety lock on , I told the front desk and they will work on it, but I just wanted you to be aware of this particular room. You can check it to make sure your room is not in the retrofit selection without your key. See if you can open the door. even if the deadbolt is thrown. Ya'll have a blessed vacation.

It was a cluster f***. Broken tiles, toilet, sinks, counter, shower door, and the stairs sound like they're about to break when my average size brother went upstairs. The room pales in comparison to other photos from NORMAL ROOMS IN THE HOTEL. MIND YOU ITS A SUITE. For $169, this was the worst room I have ever had besides maybe a Motel 6 room. I hardly slept. 0/10 Breakfast: not bad... kinda bland. 3.5/5 Staff: really nice and helpful. Couldn't complain. 5/5 Total: 8.5/20
