My wife and I decided to take a road trip from our home in Denver to Fargo ND, why Fargo? Because…read moreit's there! We were going to head home from Fargo when on a whim we thought we'd detour over to Wyoming to visit "Devil's Tower" In almost the same way we picked Fargo (throwing a dart at a map) we picked the Ace Motel in Belle Fourche just because it sounded like a nice place. The Ace motel was much more than a nice place, it is a quaint oasis in the wild lands of South Dakota. It felt like a Twilight Zone experience (and I mean this is the most positive way) we were suddenly in the courtyard of a 50's type motor inn. Going into the office we were greeted by Vicki the owner/manager/and more and received the warmest of welcomes. She said that she hoped we don't mind an old fashioned 50's feel, and we didn't mind that at all. We were given a key (YES A REAL KEY) on a diamond shaped plastic key chain (come on remember those). Opening our the door, we found our room had that old fashioned feeling but with some modern conveniences. The Ace motel is a great break from the "corporate cookie cutter" rooms you find in the big chains. Do yourself a real favor and if you have the chance to stay here, do it! A piece of advice BOOK YOUR ROOM DIRECTLY THRU THE ACE MOTEL SITE OR PHONE! I tell you this because those web hotel sites that have those TV Ads, they rip-off the small independent hotel/motel owner, the percentage those Big sites take basically take most if not all the profit for the owner. Support your independent businesses and check out the Ace Motel.

Chamber of Commerce was notified. The second problem was that she was put-off from us asking about the railroad, directly behind the motel in the "pet friendly area".And wouldn't provide an accurate trail schedule. She eventually cancelled our stay when we requested it. We are going to confirm by checking our credit card statement. No, will not make that mistake again.

Pretty disappointing…read more We are long time BW customers at the diamond select loyalty tier. Usually BW properties are pretty predictable but every now and then you run into a motel like this one that really isn't very good. It's an old building with paper thin walls and ceilings so you can forget about getting a decent night's sleep here. And you definitely don't want to be on the first floor. The people upstairs had several poorly mannered children who jumped up and down non-stop for several hours....and then were up at 05:00 stomping around. The wifi didn't work and they weren't especially engaged or interested in helping to get it working. I wasted 45 minutes of my life that I'll never get back standing in the lobby "waiting for my turn" in this woefully inadequately staffed business. I finally gave up. B'fast was pretty bad. Scrambled eggs and bacon but the bins were already empty by 6:45 so all we got was toast and coffee. BW has a policy of upgrading diamond select customers and I was told that the hotel was only half occupied. The room we were given was pretty bad so clearly not an upgraded room. The Missus thought that being an old motel maybe all the rooms there were as crappy as the one we were given. I guess we will have to start doing more due diligence and start checking Yelp reviews before booking ..... BW is usually ok and sometimes they are outstanding. But this place...... not bad enough for a one star review but bad enough where we will never be returning.

Best to go down the road to another town 15 minutes away. The room was filthy. There was no lock or deadbolt or slider on the door. We barricaded the door with furniture. The window right next to the door has a broken lock on it. So anyone can slide the window right open. Once you pay, there's no getting out of the room or we would've went somewhere else.. I apologize for not snapping a picture of the dirty sheets. Maybe that's a good thing. .

I know it's been a while since I've done a review so I'd like to apologize to my millions of yelp fans. First off the room smelt like mildew with a nice undertone of body odor. I have a bad back and the sink was only 3 feet off the ground. Bathroom door did not close completely so it couldn't be locked. Linoleum floor was so uneven I was afraid I was going to twist an ankle. Got the room because the place is pet friendly, took my dog for a walk and the owner seen us started petting the dog and being friendly to her. Next thing you know he hurling threats at me because I didn't tell him we had a dog. Saying he could charge us $250 extra. I told him all the other hotels I checked into that were pet friendly asked or didn't care if I had a dog. He said it was my responsibility to tell him and someone could die if they went into a room that previously had a dog and they had a severe allergy. I calmly told him OK he kept ranting it was not OK so I slowly walked away before I lost it on the jerk.
