Perfectly tucked in the small town of Hulett - this hotel was an easy choice to make as we were traveling. We picked this spot because of the close proximity to Devil's Tower. The vibe is a Western theme hybrid mix of modern and rustic. The main staircase is made completely out of wood accompanying this theme. Rooms were more on the modern side and were extremely spacious and clean. The front desk service was so friendly and I had the entire pool and hot tub to myself (even on a sold out night). There is complimentary breakfast in the morning with a nice variety of options including hard boiled eggs, cereal, Belgian waffles, biscuits and gravy, coffee and toast. This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. My room smelled like dogs and it took hours for the room to cool down 4 degrees. The bed was so soft that I sunk into the middle of it when I went to bed. The only thing this had going for it was the super helpful woman at check in. Otherwise it would get one star. read more

Best Westerns are my go-to in rural areas out west where there isn't a more major chain. Sorry, but that is just the case. I usually find BW hotels to be entirely adequate -- and not much more. This Best Western is a notch above that, for sure. The lobby and the rooms actually have some nice local atmosphere. It feels like more than a cookie-cutter corporate chain. Furthermore, the staff was very friendly and helpful across the board. If you are in the Devils Tower area, this is a fine choice for lodging. It is also walking distance to several restaurants. We enjoyed our stay. One caveat - there is no elevator. If you get a second floor room, you have to carry all your stuff up a large set of stairs. read more

We stayed here last night on our trip to Devils Tower. The hotel is in a really neat neighborhood, and the hotel is really neat looking. The rooms were clean, bedding was clean and they were really spacious. We had 4 of us, and there was plenty of space for us. The man who helped us last night at check in was really kind and polite, gave us all the hotel info and was quick (which we appreciated at 1am) This morning the lady working at the front desk was really kind, and helpful. Okay place near Devils Tower. Room: okay - nothing special, bathroom too small. Bed in room 119 left me with a backache the following day. Mattress had a noticeable depression where heavy butts like mine have been sleeping for too many years? Back hurt most of the night and most of the next day. Mattress needs to be replaced! Breakfast was decent. Staff was friendly and helpful. No elevator, so if you have a heavy bag and it's difficult for you to get it up stairs, better hope for a ground floor room. We had never stayed at a Best Western before but on a recent long road trip we stayed at a different Best Western each night & I'm happy to report they were all quite nice and fairly consistent in the quality to expect. This particular location was our favorite for the rustic charm and the fantastic staff! We weren't sure this location would be as wonderful as it was because it is located in a pretty small town without many other hotel options around, but they were not slacking or lacking in anything as far as we could tell. This location has a free continental breakfast with a really nice variety of both hot & cold breakfast items, ranging from very healthy to less-so, so there is something for everyone. The breakfast items we had were very good, too. Added bonus for their waffle iron, they had blueberry batter to use with it. Score! The whole place has a lodge/log-cabin feel to it and the rooms were decorated nicely. They do have a few bits of fun alien-themed decorations here and there as well (if you haven't seen the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, in relation to the nearby Devil's Tower National Monument, then you won't get the joke/reference...you gotta see that movie!). The bed was very comfortable, as well. Everything, including the bathroom, was very clean. We didn't have any issues with sound from other rooms, either. The only issue we had is this location doesn't have an elevator, and we had a lot of items to carry in to our room. Our room was originally on the 2nd floor but once we saw there wasn't an elevator we asked if there were any rooms available on the 1st floor. The clerk quickly found an open room, an even bigger/nicer one than we had booked, and switched us to that room at no additional charge (since it was already in the evening and it was unlikely anyone else would be showing up to get a room). It was a handicap-accessible room and they really did a nice job of making it easy to use and accessible for someone in a wheelchair (I know, easy for me to say, not being in a wheelchair, but from what I could tell it was quite nice) with more room to maneuver around and a very large bathroom with a walk-in/wheel-in shower that has a nice big folding chair and various handrails. Checking in & checking out was a breeze, too. We really enjoyed each night staying at the various Best Westerns across our road trip & highly recommend them! read more

The 2-story motel is right off main street (not that busy) and all of the rooms face to a central interior hall. The grounds and buildings are in good condition. The building is up on a hill and the front parking lot is small. The area feels very rural. The lobby is large with a grand rustic staircase to the second floor. There are luggage carts available to move luggage. The room size is typical and is nicely appointed. There is a coffee maker, fridge and microwave in the room. The beds are comfortable. The room is short on electrical outlets so you may have to unplug some appliances and use the bathroom outlets. Breakfast is off the lobby. It is a little on the small side, but they have lots of counter service area. Sitting is adequate since they have a sign that you can sit in the lobby and the pool area. Breakfast consists of egg, bacon or sausage, biscuit&gravy. They do have a waffle maker with blueberry syrup. They have fresh fruit in a basket. Cereal, toast, and yogurt are also available. The front desk is friendly and helpful. They appear to be short staffed and the front desk is also maintaining the breakfast area, so it can be a while before eggs and sausage are replenished. read more

Once again we had an issue with our VRBO (don't recommend using ANY of those) and ended up leaving and looking for somewhere else to stay. Being our next days travels were taking us to Devils Tower it only made sense to hit the BW. Despite the fact that there were a few local hotels and B&B's, after our VRBO experience we needed a trusted name. Clean rooms, friendly people and I'm looking forward to breakfast before we leave. Only thing I didn't like was no elevator. Having a son with disabilities, it was a challenge but we made it work. Make sure you specify a first floor room if stairs are a problem. Not a bad hotel. Pretty small though. Located in a very small town just outside of Devils Tower. Rumors are upkept well, bathrooms are nice. The pool was kid friendly, two shallow ends with a 5 foot deep middle. It is heated, but the temp was a little low for me, lol. The breakfast sucked! Very small dinning room, with very basic items. By the time we got up and going, the waffle batter was empty, coffee pot was dry and juice machine was running low. I'd suggest going earlier than 8:30am. The staff is very friendly, and helpful. The lobby is decorated with western trophies of animal heads. I especially liked the "alien". Ha I'd stay here again. Check ahead though. Since it's not far from SD, you don't want to get here when the bike run is going on, or when the rodeo is on town. read more

While the hotel has parking, it looks as if there are just enough spaces, and maneuvering on the steep driveway and narrow lot isn't easy. When we called to make a reservation for that evening, the helpful desk clerk inquired where we were, and warned us that the restaurants in Hulett closed at 7. (As things worked out, a restaurant within walking distance from the hotel was opened until 9. Lousy experience here...................... to which I responded to it very poorly. Out of many hundreds of stays over the years all over the country, this place is the first to literally not give me their corporate contact number and actually threw me out of the lobby in front of guests! First time I ever felt compelled to speak to corporate and not the manager, who is hiring the worst front desk help I've ever dealt with. And I'm truly embarrassed by my response. I'm a big fan of Best Western and this hotel didn't disappoint except in a couple areas. The beds were really old and completely sunk in the middle. They weren't terribly uncomfortable but they definitely weren't great either. The other fail was on the location. I can't believe how inconvenient the town of Hulett, WY is. All restaurants close at 8:30pm and the only gas station in town closes around the same time. This means if you want to get food other than some odd chicken garlic bar pizza you have to drive about 30 miles out of town. Since we arrived at 8:30pm we were completely screwed. Luckily we had some bagels we brought with us for the kids to eat otherwise that would have been a disaster. Either way, it doesn't matter how nice the hotel is if the location sucks. More on the location. This place was located across the street from a few trailer homes and one of them literally had a goat tied up in the front yard. This doesn't necessarily bother me, but it just seemed quite odd. The Hotel itself was very nice and the staff was very pleasant and accommodating. The rooms were above average and very clean. I enjoyed my stay here but nothing was even open when I left in the morning. My recommendation is to arrive early and leave later so you aren't stranded. I give Best Western Devils Tower Inn 3 Doubledays. The location almost completely ruined the experience for me but the hotel was nice enough to make up for it.....somewhat. read more

This is probably the "best" Best Western I've stayed in. We normally get a king bed, but since they don't have an elevator, we elected to chose a queen on the 1st floor. (Too much luggage to fight up the stairs) Once we arrived, we discovered it had 2 queens. So we used the extra bed as a luggage rack. The bathroom is rather small, but still comfortable. Parking is easy, because it is right in front of the hotel and no one stays here so you can find a spot right away. The stuffed deer and elk on the wall in the lobby are a nice touch, too. Across the street is a house that looks half-abandoned but there's a trampoline on the front lawn and a pygmy horse that wanders around eating grass, so I mean, there has to be someone who lives there, right? Very nice for the middle of no where. We got in late and appreciated the lady in the front desk for telling us to go eat first because The only restaurant in town was going to close soon. The jets in the hot tub wasn't working so that was a bummer but not a huge let down. The breakfast was great just like any other best western. Totally unacceptable. No elevator, and we were traveling with our children, one of whom is disabled. For him we'd requested a crib: we checked-in, discussed the crib and then walked to town for dinner. We returned an hour later and our son was crazy-tired and crying: they put the portable crib on the floor in the lobby and expected us to carry it upstairs and assemble it. We're already carrying a child because they are evidently not accessible and all our luggage: I asked the person at the front desk to have someone either help us with the bags or carry up the crib. The response? A snotty look of disdain -- not a word and no help. It was all I could do not to start yelling at the top of my lungs. I was furious and disgusted. This is NOT customer service. Maybe this is emblematic of Best Western, however? Never stayed in one and won't again, I can tell you that. read more
