Wine and wags 2015

I'm a long time fan of the SPCA. I've been to tons of them in my life, and often left with a furry creature, although usually for others. This is the large local branch that moved from Esigmer street this year. They have been raising money for this new facility for ages. It was a journey that has ended well. This space is terrific. More modern. More "friendly" for pets and humans alike. I still haven't gotten my own dog, but I'm here occasionally dropping things off. Bags of food if I find them on sale. (You can also have it delivered from Amazon, which I've done too.). They like old towels and light blankets too - put them in the dog beds I think. They take newspapers. Pet carriers you no longer need. You can see a complete "wish list" on their website. It's pretty specific and clear, always nice. Full disclosure, I'm a monthly donor. 3/R-a-D Challenge

This new location is seriously amazing. Their staff is all so friendly and that is crucial at an animal shelter. The have separate wings for every animal, & a veterinary wing, which the other location was quite cramped. There is a wildlife wing, cats, dogs, reptiles, everything is separated. All of the animals are so sweet and there are some that need major care and help rehabilitating. They have people here to help with this and it's really nice to see. They have an outdoor play area for the animals that is super nice! They are also opening a more reasonable option financially for people who can't afford expensive health care for their pets. This is going to be the Lipsey Clinic and I believe is opening later this year. The Lipsey family was the donor, that's where the name came from. Phil Weiss, their events coordinator, gave us a tour when we dropped off our donation check from our fundraiser at work. He was very knowledgeable and really friendly! I can't wait for more years to come. Everyone should try to adopt, rather than go to a breeder. All animals need love & shouldn't be treated with anything other than the utmost respect and care. They do that really well here and they have my full support. X's and O's! J

I went there on 12/8/17 from Niagara Falls to look for a cat to adopt. The new facility is beautiful and clean. The people that work and volunteer there are very helpful and I adopted to cat I was looking for. I would recommend the SPCA to anyone looking for a animal to adopt. They also have a store connected where you can get all the supplies needed to take your new pet home. If I lived closer I would love to volunteer!!! Yes

Our new fur baby sleeping with his brother. Love that they give the dogs toys to keep them occupied!

How much is for adoption dog?

The adoption fee for dogs ranges from $150-$500, younger and purebred dogs tend to be more expensive than older dogs and mutts

I have come to learn there are many protocols involved in the adoption process but keep in mind the animals well being always comes first and dictates these procedures.

Found inside of the super-gorgeous Market Arcade, Buffalo Barkery is a pretty sweet pet boutique that offers a variety of treats and toys for dogs, cats, and owners alike! The shelves are stocked with all sorts of goodies to spoil your pet with, as well as some human-friendly gifts that are perfect for pet lovers. I loved all the accessories they had here, like bandanas, bow-ties, and collar/leash sets. They even had cute Halloween items since the holiday is coming up. I was so tempted to bring home things my dog really didn't need. Buffalo Barkery is basically a bakery as well - they make and sell their own dog treats, with flavors inspired by local faves like Beef on Weck and Chicken Wing, as well as Pumpkin and Buffalo Chip. They also do custom orders, and I hear they make a mean doggy birthday cake! I love the business model they stand behind - the owners started making their own dog treats, tired of unnecessary preservatives and by-products often found in name brand treats. "To us, dogs aren't just pets, they are family." Absolutely! I ended up bringing Rosie home a couple of cute cookies, as well as some Vegan Ear Wash. I am very eager to return to this lovely shop, and I think I'll have to bring my pup with me next time.

They also host a variety of fundraisers throughout the year, which is why I recently visited the main shelter to pickup a basket I won from the virtual meat raffle. While I was there, all the employees (or volunteers) were busy doing something to take care of the cats. A few were in the parking lot cleaning carriers, the desk attendant was answering a woman's questions about a cat, and another came by to quickly retrieve my basket. During the short time I waited, I said hi to a few cats in stacked carriers near the entrance which I assume was temporary. The only reason I deducted a star was due to the overwhelming smell inside. I understand it's an old building with carpeting, so I'm excited that they're building a new cat campus and hope it will have a better air filtering system to make visiting the main shelter a more enjoyable experience.

Ten Lives was hosting a pop-up event featuring adoptable cats, and as I walked past the glass, a little Tuxedo kitten pawed and playfully chased after me. That was it -- he was mine! The adoption process took a little while, but only because a volunteer was training someone new. I completed all the paperwork easily through my phone and their iPad, and everything was explained thoroughly. I also love that Ten Lives offers a 14-day post-adoption vet service -- I've already used it since Wasabi (that's his name!) came home with a small kitty cold and a slight hernia. I can't say enough good things about this wonderful non-profit cat adoption agency. If you have a moment, check out their website -- you'll instantly fall in love with all the sweet photos of their adoptable cats. And if an adoption doesn't work out, they will always welcome the cats back with open arms.
