total lack of communication. They do not answer emails, no phone number to call. Very unhappy experience.

Zero communication. My experience with them has deterred me from wanting to try to rescue a dog again.

Niagara Falls Humane Society - There's a hole off to the right out of the frame, so these cats are free to roam.

My friend and I stumbled upon this fantastic cat adoption centre in the otherwise dead mall that is Niagara Centre. In the front area, they stock odds and ends (water bottles, t-shirts, etc) to raise proceeds for their efforts. The back of the store is the really impressive part; it's divided by a floor-to-ceiling chain link fence with a gate, and they have dozens of cats wandering free. The area is the size of a large living room, and it's filled with all sort of furniture for the cats to climb/sleep on, as well as toys. There's an area in the very back marked "employees only" where the cats are free to retreat to if they need the litter box, food, or just a quiet place to hide. The employees are happy to let anyone in with the cats to visit, and you're free to pet or play with them, or just let them come to you. It's a great setup, almost like a cat cafe, where you can get to know your future pet on their home turf. No cages, so the cats aren't stressed out. One cat in particular approached us for attention, and we happily petted her and fed her some treats while she purred non-stop. The other cats casually strolled around or slept, not bothered by us in the slightest. I only wish I lived nearby, because I'd love to visit all the time. It's probably for the best, since I'd want to take all of the cats home.

They also host a variety of fundraisers throughout the year, which is why I recently visited the main shelter to pickup a basket I won from the virtual meat raffle. While I was there, all the employees (or volunteers) were busy doing something to take care of the cats. A few were in the parking lot cleaning carriers, the desk attendant was answering a woman's questions about a cat, and another came by to quickly retrieve my basket. During the short time I waited, I said hi to a few cats in stacked carriers near the entrance which I assume was temporary. The only reason I deducted a star was due to the overwhelming smell inside. I understand it's an old building with carpeting, so I'm excited that they're building a new cat campus and hope it will have a better air filtering system to make visiting the main shelter a more enjoyable experience.

Ten Lives was hosting a pop-up event featuring adoptable cats, and as I walked past the glass, a little Tuxedo kitten pawed and playfully chased after me. That was it -- he was mine! The adoption process took a little while, but only because a volunteer was training someone new. I completed all the paperwork easily through my phone and their iPad, and everything was explained thoroughly. I also love that Ten Lives offers a 14-day post-adoption vet service -- I've already used it since Wasabi (that's his name!) came home with a small kitty cold and a slight hernia. I can't say enough good things about this wonderful non-profit cat adoption agency. If you have a moment, check out their website -- you'll instantly fall in love with all the sweet photos of their adoptable cats. And if an adoption doesn't work out, they will always welcome the cats back with open arms.

She said your dad sounds like a nice guy so have him put in his application in tomorrow. She said he would go on their website in a week. So I filled out the application which is more intrusive than getting a NYS pistol permit and with a home visit too. So then I go thinking I could pick up the dog and no one knows anything. I texted with many people so they should have known what dog I wanted plus the information was on my application. I go there and they tell me the was adopted even though it was still on their website. So I go looked for another dog at the event and I find one that's similar to the breed I want and he was so loving. He washed my face and wanted to go to sleep on my lap. So the handler is selling me on this dog, telling me how wonderful it is. I tell him you know what I really wanted a female, but he's so lovable. I wanted to adopt him. Then some people come up to me and say the dog is adopted. That's two dogs in one day they said could be adopted but then disappointed me. Why are they posting dogs that have already been adopted both on their website and at an adoption event? I was very hurt as I just lost my mom and felt this dog would help me get over the loss. They knew that, they loved my application and my home. I will try to go to another event but I no longer trust them, they seem to care about dogs more than peoples feelings.
