This rescue is amazing! The volunteers work very hard to make sure the dogs find the right home. They want to make sure the dog and the family are the right fit. Their application process is clearly outlined on the website. People complaining about communication clearly did not read about the process. It's all right there on their website. It's nice to see a rescue who cares about the dogs and the adoptive families. More thorough experience than other rescues! They also help more adult, senior, or dogs with medical needs than I have seen with other rescues. All of which means a lot to me. Highly recommend. read more

Horrible communication from this rescue. I did all the right things - went to a meet and greet, had an application filled out and everything. None of my references were contacted nor was my vet. I met a foster parent and she was wonderful - there is something wrong with whoever is running this operation, if you look at other reviews several people have voiced the same opinion. Seriously don't waste your time or get your hopes up on this place it's a struggle to get any form of reliable communication back from them. Horrible. The dogs deserve better. read more

I've volunteered and worked with plenty of shelters and have never encountered someone with such a lack of professionalism and such poor communication. Barb seems to be very annoyed by the dogs, and also potential adopters. My wife and I attended one of her events and were very turned off by her poor attitude towards us as we tried to introduce ourselves as a respectful act; she seemed to be very bothered by it which we found to be very odd. I do not recommend fostering for her or adopting from her due to her uncaring nature towards the dogs as she screamed at them for barking. What do you expect when you have 12 dogs together? I struggle to understand that type of temperament towards animals. I also struggle to understand those behaviors publicly witnessed by potential adopters. read more

After a visit for a meet and greet of adoptable dogs, I was met by Barb (the founder of the organization). I had no idea her level of involvement as I asked a few questions about the meet and greet process given you cannot find this information anywhere. She was rude and uninterested in my queries about supporting her organization and our interest in adoption. The consistent yelling at the pups and her condescending mannerisms towards her volunteers made me cringe, especially the behavior towards a young girl no older than 12 who was assisting her in the dog pen. We were appalled enough to leave the event after being there for less than 15 minutes. read more

I adopted a puppy mill breeder release from PixieMamas. I had no idea what was involved with a puppy mill dog. I should have looked elsewhere after my first encounter with Barb. She was irritated because I didn't want her to bring a dog I never met, to my house to be adopted on New Year's Eve. Once we got her, the vaccine documentation was wrong and she was rude when I emailed her questioning it. After the dog ran away twice, I wanted to surrender my dog back to PixieMamas. I was so unprepared for adopting a breeder release. She gave NO education about the flight risk of these dogs. She didn't come with a martingale collar, nor was mention of one made. Barb told me if I wanted to surrender the dog I could bring her to their public adoption event! I decided I would NEVER return her to PixieMamas. They DO NOT have the dogs best interest at heart. The dog was brought to me filthy on top of it. There are so many rescues. I would never recommend them to anyone. Thankfully someone from another rescue reached out and has been so helpful and informative about the unique nature of puppy mill release rescues. PixieMamas now has martingale collars for sale if you get their dogs. At least that's in their profiles now. Two thumbs down on this rescue. read more

I placed an application for Cricket last year, but when I didn't hear anything and saw they had a meet n geet, I asked my husband if we could swing by the meet n greet after my aunt's funeral. My aunt definitely knew what she was doing! When I saw Cricket I fell in love at first site! After talking to the foster mom, I learned that the best way to adopt is to go to the meet and greet. I told her I had filled out the application already which she said it just speeds up the process. They like when the adopters come to meet the dogs first...That way the foster moms can meet you and your family and the dog can meet you as well. Cricket was a puppy mill momma and just spayed when we adopted her. She had issues when she came home but i just listened to the 3-3-3 rule and so far it's an amazing tranformation. She hated the basement, didn't know what grass was and never knew true companionship. Now she's gained some weight, is pretty good at going outside to potty and now potties In the grass! She's my lapdog and just loves to be loved. She hangs in the basement as long as we're there. Pixie Mamas Rescue wants what is best for these dogs. These dogs have been through a lot. We adopted our puppy back in August and had a very positive experience! The process was very professional and thorough and it was clear her foster mom cared about making sure we were the right home. This is an organization made up of VOLUNTEERS - people also managing their personal lives, work and families outside of rescuing dogs. I'm sure a lot of time and care goes into what they do and their main goal is to find the right families and forever homes for their dogs. I think some of the other reviewers forgot this. They never bother to call and look at your home if you have a senior dog no matter how good they are... or how great you treat your dogs. Would NOT recommend them. I got a puppy from Nickel City and would Highly recommend them a pleasure to deal with! read more

I give up. Total lack of communication. When they do respond they don't answer questions you ask. You see a dog you want to adopt get your hopes up weeks go by and the dog is adopted. Last dog I tried to adopt for 2 months then I get told the dog is adoption pending. I won't try again. At $400 adoption fee I'll go to puppy finder and buy a puppy, way less hassle. The last dog I adopted I saw her, fell for her and within a week she was living with me, cost $160 (spayed and shots). She was 3 months old and cute as can be. She was a great companion and I still miss her as does the neighborhood. The adoption process has changed for the worse and it will impact adopting and saving these poor dogs. read more

I have had three rescues over the past 15 years. Sadly, all passed within 2 years due to old age. Loved them dearly. After my last crossed the rainbow bridge, I started looking and saw a pup I liked. She was already adopted. A woman said there was another dog she had but when I read her profile, the dog appeared to have a lot of intense issues. After I responded to say I didn't think she was a good fit, the foster said this dog had made great strides and was like a new dog. Her profile just hadn't been updated she said. I was excited and the woman said she'd bring her over. Right before she got here I started to have a panic attack. My sister was with me and she could tell I got anxious. The foster said I had three dogs before so why would this be any different. My sister felt terrible after the fact and felt she should've told me to step back. I shouldn't have signed the paperwork but at the same time I believe this woman had to see me panicking and despite it pushed me. Looking back she seemed to really be trying to get rid of this dog. That night and the following day were horrible. This poor dog had MAJOR, SERIOUS issues. She had not been properly represented by the agent. Like I said, I had three rescues before. Dogs need time to settle in. I was honest in saying that I didn't want a dog with serious issues. This woman HAD to know this poor dog was in no way making strides as she said. I take responsibility for adopting but I fault the rescue in being dishonest in this dogs behavioral issues. I don't recommend them based on it. I have several friends who work in rescue organizations and they agreed this wasn't right. I've since adopted another pup and things couldn't have gone any better. read more

My family rescues elderly dogs from shelters all over western NY. We were denied a dog for no reason bc we have another dog, when it says that the dog we applied for would do well with other dogs. Our other dog is 12 years old and they said no bc he is too big. So they won't let a 13 year old dog live out her life at a home with a family and want her to stay in a shelter instead. We have adopted 2 dogs, approximately 4 years apart. The first time we met with a special needs dog (one eye) however during home visit did not seem interested in people or my other dog. After she lunged to bite my daughter it was a no go. I mentioned to the foster mom that we wanted a dog that would love being in contact with people and at least tolerate our other dog. She later returned with the perfect fit for our family. The second rescue from pixie mamas and 3rd dog to the family, was a good fit as well upon first home visit. I completely understand doing a background check on people prior to adoption, but the level of scrutiny this place holds is ridiculous. Was recently denied because I didn't have records on my deceased 13 year old dog, yet my dog I have now that is mourning the loss of her brother shows regular vet visits to our new vet and is always current on vaccines. I get why people go to puppy mills, it's very off putting that someone is willing to provide a loving home to these animals in need and is shot down on a technicality. They aren't willing to look at the broader picture of the situation and see what a great home would be provided for any animal. This should be a collective endeavor not a power trip by some arbitrary lady. read more

I just recently adopted my second pup through Pixie Mamas. They check all adopters out thoroughly, and have requirements for certain animals to make sure the family who adopts them is the best possible choice for the animal. We were able to meet our pup at an event they held at World of Beer in the Galleria Mall. We put in our application and waited. It took a while to hear a response because they check all applications received. Luckily for us we were chosen for a home visit. The foster mommy brought her over. We had the best visit and adopted her that day! She got to stay with us that day too! They really are an amazing rescue and take in so many pups with so many needs, matching them with their furever family! I highly recommend this rescue!! read more

I had a horrible experience with the "owner" of pixie mama rescue. They are Horrible at communication. Ironically, a friend of mine knew I had interest in a pup. They knew someone else that was also having a home visit. After finally communicating with Barb, we had a home visit at HER convenience. Little did we know, she had already chosen this family and was telling them different information than us. We had already a home visit with the company prior to this experience (which wasn't bad) however, she stated she wish she would've known. Don't they keep track of that kind of thing? Regardless, after several lies that were told to us...the adoption went with the other family. (It wasn't meant to be, huge bummer) I receive an email saying the dog went with someone that worked from home. (I totally understand how that would help) So I respond saying my experience was overall disappointing because we were told lies and didn't appreciate it. It was obvious we weren't getting the dog by a number of reasons on how we were treated. I thanked her for it but she had to respond back by making a snarky dig saying she had a dog for us that she thought would work however now, not so much. Real professional. As if this dog would've had been better how? Multiple things I can go off and keep saying however Its really not worth it. This whole process was just poor service, bad customer communication and unprofessional. I would not recommend this rescue at all. It's unfortunate saying that when this whole thing is supposed to be about finding a good home for a pet. Not catching a foster parent lying around to find their way into the right home. This organization has zero compassion and even worse communication. We attempted to inquire about a specific dog that sounded perfect for our family and were met with very cold people. We had previously filled out an application with zero feedback or communication. We are a family with 3 cats a dog, and another dog that we had to put down after 14.5 years so it was not like we were new to having pets in our home. We finally found out through a friend of ours that they do not accept families that do not have fences...which is not possible for us since with have 37 acres in the country! The fact that is not on the application, nor did they take the 2 minutes of time to let us know that is insane. read more

I have adopted 3 dogs from Pixie Mamas! They are so thorough and dedicated to the dogs in their care. The dogs were clean, happy and the foster knew everything about them! They spent a lot of time at my home introducing the dogs and making sure it was the perfect fit! Their contract is rock solid and their foster told me "if anything happens and you can no longer care for your dogs we want them back. No questions asked" What a great rescue and how amazing is that to know if something happens to you that your babies will be taken care of and loved by the very people that saved them in the first place! We were denied for a misinterpretation on our application and not even given the chance to explain. Just because our already trained dogs don't go outside on a leash, they assumed we wouldn't be taking the adopted pup out on a leash when I clearly said we were more than willing to leash train her. We live in the country adjoining 30 acres of family owned land in a rural area where a complete fenced in yard would be impractical. For an agency that is supposed to care about finding good homes they are surely quick to turn away homes that these dogs would be so lucky to be part of (as would we to give them a paradise to live in). It is too bad these pups can't speak for themselves because we know that little nugget would have been in heaven here with us. We were heartbroken as we had wonderful references, our vet was happy to recommend us, and having such a great experience with the prior adoption agency. NOT pixie mamas. It is places like this that really are dropping the ball. Thorough is one thing. Kindness and compassion is another. I will tell everyone looking to adopt about this terrible experience. I reached out to pixie momas rescue to give an unsolicited recommendation for someone who was looking to adopt a senior chihuahua from their rescue. Instead of thanking me for reaching out i got the following kurt reply..."the dog has more then one application. It's the holidays- etc we are working on them. We are all volunteers - we have full time jobs and families of our own. Fb messages, comments and emails on her behalf will not make us work faster. Nor will it make her application any better then the other families. In the end the BEST home for the dog will be chosen. Thank you." I then responded and told them it was not a kind reply to which they removed my comments and blocked me from commenting further. The also treated the hopeful adopter in a disrespectful way. read more
