O.M.G.
what a story.
so: this is a rub-and-tug joint.
this was NOT clear upfront.
I went in unsure. Googled it to see if I could find any confirmation - yet the website seemed legit, nothing shady or sexual about it. should have known otherwise when lady was wearing a short skirt and told me, "$60 PLUS TIPS" - though figured it'd be easy enough to opt-out.
sure enough, halfway through, masseuse asks if I wanted a happy ending. I declined.
now, the massage WAS excellent. VERY good.
however, I got into the room at 3:40pm, masseuse starts 3:45pm. 45 minutes later, she tells me she's done.
With this, I wasn't happy. I paid for an hour. NOT 45 minutes.
She insisted that an hour is from the time I entered the room until leave - and that the clock started a couple minutes BEFORE when I used the toilet. WTF. I told her I didn't need 10 minutes to get dressed, so she went on for 5 more minutes. STILL, only got 50 minutes of massage - NOT the hour I paid for.
At this point, I was ready to leave without tipping. However, she asked as I was leaving. So, I pulled out a $20 - the only bills I had - and asked for $15 change.
It wasn't enough for her. So I begrudgingly asked if she had $10 change.
This makes more than 15% tip - standard in Canadian hospitality - which I'd consider VERY generous, in spite of the fact that I only got 50 minutes of massage when I paid for 60 - and would've only gotten 45 had I not fought for it.
Well, $10 wasn't good enough for her.
She went into a fit about how $20 is standard in the industry, blah blah blah. And that was it. She wasn't grateful for 15% - I wasn't going to give ANY tip. Put the money back in my wallet and left.
THAT WAS ONLY THE START.
As walking outside back to my car, she storms out after me, SCREAMING.
She goes on and on. One of her co-workers comes out, trying to talk to her. I'm trying to her co-worker, but this lady keeps screaming, interrupting every time I open my mouth. Eventually, her co-worker goes back inside because there's no reasoning with this woman. I continue walking away.
Now, I'm not about to get into my car, because this lady seems crazy and ready to do cause serious trouble. When I was standing next to another car, she was eyeing up the license plate number, and I dunno WHAT she was planning, but it obviously wasn't sane. So, I plan to walk down the alley, around the block, and loop back to get my car once she's done.
One problem with that plan = she keeps following me all the way down the alley, SCREAMING that I'm an absolutely horrible person, not caring to listen to a single word I have to say about why she sabotaged her own tip or tipping standards in Canada, cursing me, saying she hopes I get in a car accident AND DIE.
YEAH. Because I didn't want to give her a 33% tip on a massage I got shortchanged 20% time for.
THANKFULLY, as we got to the end of the alley, a police officer was there.
I happily told him the story. He asked for her side, to which there really wasn't much to say. He split it up, told her to forget about the money, told me I was not to go back there - and I continued walking away, his presence stopping her from following me.
So I looped around the block, took a couple minutes, creeping back towards my car. She's STILL in the alley. But, a bit further, and I'm not sure if she saw me. So, I ended up RUNNING to my car, getting in, and driving away the opposite direction as fast as possible.
YEP.
In all fairness, the massage was GREAT.
However, only getting 45/50 minutes when paying for a full hour - not cool in my books.
Having a hissy-fit thrown at me because offer 15% tip wasn't enough in consideration - NOT cool. Period.
Being chased down an alley by a crazy lady for 5-10 minutes, having her scream what a horrible person I am and curse me to death... completely next-level unprofessional.
