Booked 5 of us on a Sunday early afternoon on lane 16. Then 5 kids and 10 adults showed up on lane 15. White trash. Food and drinks and shoes and jackets all over the place. Need to climb over the chairs to get to my lane. The staff there does not enforce shit. 6 bowler limit makes sense but Jesus, man, my lane is RIGHT IN FRONT of the desk, and the kids there are sitting on their assws not doing a thing. Bowling was fine but the youngish guy at the front desk was a tool. I asked if I could use the punch machine, he visibly sighed and said "it's not on" I asked if I could turn it on he, he said "no". Took my family to bowl there once and my kids loved it so much that my son wanted his birthday party there. So we had his party with 14 of his friends. It included the shoe rental, the games and pizza for the party for 2 hours. He was very happy and we were pleased with their service. read more

Best bowling alley in the area! Prices are reasonable - $5.50 a game & there is lots of parking! If you are bringing your own bowling balls, park on the side to enter as the front has a lot of steps to get into the place! The condition of the lanes was pretty good. The machine for you to input the names of bowlers is pretty antiquated - that could use some updating as well as the bathrooms. The bar is great! Excellent selection of wine & beer & they have a lot of TV's. Seems like a lot of locals hang out there. Definitely this is a good bowling alley! read more

Not a surprise that all the good reviews are from years ago - when we brought up issues of the balls not returning, the pins not coming back down, etc. the girl behind the counter said to "complain to the owners not us" You would think after we had to call for assistance 3+ times they'd just switch us over to a different lane but nope! There are several components making me write this one-star review for Sparta Lanes. We were a group of 8 coming, one of which was hurt, therefore not bowling, making it 7. We all got our shoes and headed towards our lane but nobody heard what lane we were supposed to go to, so I (who was the host of the group) went up to the front desk and asked if she knows what lane we were assigned and she said none of them had any clue. She said just go to a lane with a light on. Many of the buttons on the panel for the lane are in poor condition and they've just went over stuff with permanent marker but didn't do a good job so it took a while to figure out what buttons are which. Once we actually began the game, the pin setter quickly stopped working and froze. My friend went to tell the lady at the service desk about it, and I went along with her, and when she told her it was broken, the lady said "In what way?" in an annoyed tone, which isn't really a big deal but she has been acting that way to us the entire time we were there, so clearly she needs to learn some customer service skills. Once we finished playing it was time for me to pay and I went to the service desk and the lady working there said we bowled before starting either one or both of our games, which wasn't true. The first thing I did when we got to our lane was put our names in the system, because what's the point of bowling if it's not even keeping track. We played two games, but I started the second game right after the other with the same people and same settings. I told her nobody played before I put the names in and she said somebody must have, and normally we would've been charged an extra $43 but now we know for next time. An older guy working there also came to say the same thing, which I was confused about because how would they even know what happened to our lane if they don't even keep track at whose at each lane? Anyways, one of my friend's grandmothers knows the person working at the desk well so they didn't make us pay extra. Only logical thing I can think of is that they thought the hurt person in our group was playing and thought we didn't count her in the system. But even then, I still don't know where $43 came from because payment is PER PERSON PER GAME, and we only had 7 bowlers and all 7 bowlers only played in our allotted time and lane. At the end of the day I paid the normal price for 7 people and that was that, however if my friend didn't know the person working, maybe that would not have been the case. I was very disappointed and annoyed at Sparta Lanes after my bowl and my friends also noted that the people at the desk were rude as well. On a more positive note, the clerk at the snack area was pleasant and the service there was speedy, food was good, especially for the price, and it seemed as a whole my group had fun, however I just wish we didn't have to deal with the unnecessary events that happened when it was time to pay. If you are looking for a local place to bowl at and don't want to travel out of the immediate area, this is a fine choice, and the pricing seems pretty reasonable. However, there are way better options than this and I personally will not be coming back here, since they are very unorganized and lack hospitality and patience. The place is dated and the pin setters were constantly taking a long time to reset the pins. I recommend Circle Bowl & Entertainment in Ledgewood, they have a great facility and much nicer staff and food. read more

Tommy helped me plan a family birthday party for my daughter who has special needs and requires an accessible lane. I ordered catered food, which my family said was DELICIOUS!! Eggplant, Tuscany wraps, etc. Really good food! They had everything set up so nice near the lanes. All modern equipment, clean, and reasonable cost (better than other lanes in the area). Went next door to cvs to buy the place decent tp and when I confronted the front desk clerk. He said if I didn't like it I could leave. I brought my family, including my grandson, this afternoon to have some fun. We stood at the front counter for several minutes before being greeted by a young man who clearly was overwhelmed. Although it was very busy, he quickly assigned us to a lane. We went to the lane to find it already in use by other customers. After notifying the staff and waiting for an additional 10-15 minutes, Pam, the manager, approached us. She was clearly angry and annoyed. I was in the process of requesting a lane that looked like it was open and she rudely said no. I asked what lane was available and she wagged her finger at me and said " excuse me". It went downhill from there and we exchanged heated comments. Both of us were frustrated, regardless racial slurs should never be acceptable when dealing with customers. Fuck this place! I've brought my family here for the past 15 years and have never had such an indescribably harsh and rude treatment. read more

I would give it 0 stars if I could. First of all, I called early in the week to ask if they reserve lanes and they said no. Next I asked if it's better to come Sunday morning or evening, and the employee said that the mornings book up quickly and are very busy. I said "ok, thanks, maybe we'll see you on--" and I got cut off because the man rudely hung up on me. Fast forward to today, when my friend and I met up to bowl with our 2 and 3 year old kids. The sign said it was open, so we went inside and there were 2 employees behind the desk. My friend went to ask for 2 lanes and the woman said that they weren't open yet so she couldn't help us. It was 10:57am and there were already people at lanes, which made no sense. We turned and then she went to assist the next customer, like what? We go back in line, and then when it's our turn AGAIN, she tells us we can't have 2 lanes. When asked why, she said it's because they get busy. She asked how many people and we said 4, and she said we could only use one lane. Ok, rude. So we let the kids play with the bumper on it. We had to run around to even find balls that the kids could use and the ramp for the kids to use was rickety and metal and the computer system was old and outdated. Everything definitely looked like it needed an upgrade, including the employees. We will NOT be back. read more

Customer service is nonexistent, pretty much a joke. If you have a complaint you will be told tough shit. League bowling is met with distain almost like a nuisance by management. Lanes are not oiled before league starts which seems to be par for the course at this house. Bring new equipment here only at your own risk because the out dated broken down machines will scratch and chew up new balls rendering them useless. Of course complaints will fall on deaf ears. Broken pins will stay in play for weeks or months, that is normal in this house. Rest rooms are abysmal at best, use them at your own risk. Have fun. read more

I've been bowling leagues since I was 6 in multiple houses in multiple states. This bowling center is the worst center I've ever bowled in. Owner and management don't maintain anything in the building besides the bar. Weekly break downs, no working hand dryers on lanes, ball returns that chew up equipment. I'm actually surprised that leagues continue to signup and bowl in this dump. I was suckered into bowling this year. I won't be coming back or bowling any events in this shit hole and I recommend any other league bowler to stay away. read more

Had lots of fun till the end... lady was very rude and should not have been talking to customers the way she was. the total was around 53$ for 4 people 3 people bowled twice the one once. We had asked the lady how much each of us had to pay and with a snobby attitude said "the total is 53$ it's 9.50 a game do the math you guys are in high school" after exchanging a look with my friends she finally said "three of you pay 14.50 and the one pays 9.50 that was not so hard." 14.50 for three of us that bowled twice? and it's 9.50 a game... i'm not gonna complain cause it was 4.50 cheaper but 9.50+9.50=19 dollars flat. would rate it 0 stars if i could. the lady behind the front desk last sunday made me so furious with not only her snotty attitude, but her lack of care for the customers. dont get me started on the quality of the lanes. the last 3-4 times i came to this dump the lanes were bone dry, took over 2 mins to get a full set of pins, and the balls kept getting stuck. it seems like this place is NOT maintained whatsoever. the flat soda from the snack stand, it just keeps adding up. the ONLY thing holding this place together is the bar establishment attached. This place sucks for league bowlers on Sunday. Owner is no where to be found. Employees are rude. The owner only cares about money and not the customer. The lanes are broken and the only thing they care about is the bar. The league dues went up yet nothing is done to satisfy the people who pay into the league. Bowled there this morning. My ball would come back all oily and had to wipe it off after each use. Then began getting stuck and not returning and had to use a house ball for the 2nd ball. I reported problems with the lane and they blamed it on my ball ... so used a house ball for 1.5 more games, same issues, our lane and the one next to us with kids bowling with house balls. They would get out balls back quickly but had problems in almost every frame, or every other frame. Used my ball here many times before, many other lanes as well, NEVER had a problem before/anywhere else. They should have at least given us a game or two for free ... but they blamed everything on us, my ball, that I did not let them know soon enough, etc. And yes, per other comments the bathrooms are pretty bad. Snack bar good, bar good, but that's not why we are here! read more

Honestly sad... No balls returned during our game, no usable weights, and the place was 90 degrees. Not to mention the shoes smelled like death and the lanes were poorly oiled. Honestly racking my brain and nothing was good about this place. No options for finger hole size within weights. Had to constantly ask them to fix our lane, and all the workers were hiding. After i took a shower, my entire house got athletes foot, and even worse. There was a mushroom growing out of my drain, and we had to fumigate my entire house. Still trying to get the fungus out of my mattress. On top of everything, the only time they paid attention was when they charged us extra for bowling after the game, even though there was no disclosure that that would happen. Workers are only interested in squeezing every dime out of attendees, and don't care about experience. There was no respect for the integrity of the game, and they iced us multiple times in the middle of a hot competition. Barely even playable. What can I say!!! The guy in the front desk thinks he's funny, but he's just rude. The lane wouldn't start so I had to go up and have them fix it. Then trying to play another game it was busted again. The controls are dirty and very worn. The food was slow and the bar, although very cool looking is unorganized. My daughter ordered cheese fries and after 20 mins she asked what's going on and someone took them, so she ordered more and that took another 20 mins. The staff are under manned, yet they charge more for a holiday!!! The lottery game game papers are al over the bar, yet you have to go to the front desk to play???? The computer showed a point even wi hav gutter ball!!! NEVER AGAIN!!! Plus they had damn disco lights the whole time which was so distracting. I have it two stars because it has a bar read more

My family and I had fun there bowling. The drinks are good too. I have to say the bathrooms need a lot of attention. A good renovation is badly needed as well as a good cleaning! It's your usual bowling alley. It is a little outdated, but for a mixer upper to the usual weekend festivities, it served its purpose. They do have leagues on certain nights, which was of course the night we went. However, they still let us bowl until a certain time. read more
