Honestly I really, really didn't like this place. Okay, this is one of those cafes that has been around for as long as I can remember, but it certainly doesn't mean that it is any good. In fact, it is pretty bad to be honest with you. I guess the main reason had a lot to do with the tea, namely that the water that they used tasted pretty foul. Honestly, I'm not all that sure why it was the case, but it certainly was one of the worst that I have every tasted. First time I've seen Spargo's since its been renovated and I love love love the new look. Tonight I has a cappuccino and an awesome green tea mango cake. Can't wait to go back to see if the dinner menu has changed. Sooo much more appealing and the decor is fresh, modern and relaxed. read more

Spargo's has been a meeting place for my friends and I for a while. It's a central meeting place and perfect for a meal before the movies with friends or a special someone. The menu has plenty to choose from and the restaurant is big enough for large groups or just a coffee on the go. There is also the option of sitting in or outside. The service is pretty good. Their foccacias are tasty but there's a bit too much bread compared to the filling. I'd suggest the warm chicken salad or the lamb salad...mm yumm! read more

Spargos has been around for a while and has been the place to go for the younger crowd and families before the movies. The movie dinner deals are good value and so is the food in general. Like good old fashioned Italian cuisine, the serves are generous and still accompanied by free bread! On a recent visit, I tried the tortellini orientale which is an interesting east meets west pasta dish, involving seeded mustard. A strange combination but surprisingly good. One thing that is pretty good at Spargos is the coffee, before cibo opened up, it was the only decent coffee in the Marion shopping centre. The atmosphere is one of noisy bustling, group eating. It is a massive restaurant with seating overflowing from the front and the back of the restaurant. One of the things I don't like is that you still feel very much a part of the shopping centre with its noise and bright lights - not the place for someone who wants a quiet oasis from the rigours of shopping. However, the food and the service is consistently good and if you like large Italian meals you won't be disappointed. read more

Noise levels on a Thursday night, it's bananas! Still got to be expected. It's a little hard to hear the table talk but I am here for food mainly. The decor is err tacky? Is it meant to be? It looks like it's trying to be tacky but didn't wuite Had to grab a quick bite before the movie time: we were told it would only be a few minutes and ended up waiting 20 minutes; resulting in us having to shove our food down without enjoying it. Staff were actually pretty friendly, despite being frazzled due to how busy it was. Can't blame them. The food when I first checked the prices was expensive; $25 for a small portion of pasta? It better be good. With no alternative we ordered and waited. The food itself was nice, not quite worth the expense but still enjoyable. I would probably go here again when not so rushed. read more

My lamb salad wasn't bad and my mum's pasta had a generous serving of prawns BUT my friend didn't get chips with her parmi (despite the menu promising otherwise)! I've probably dined here a dozen times over the last 6 years, and I've never been dissatisfied. They've a very fast paced place obviously from how busy they get and what they provide to their customers. I see it's a well equipped restaurant with a real wood-oven, huge kitchen and dining areas, various display fridges, full bar... Since I don't live in this area I only really come here for a catch up with people around this area, or as an easy meal to have before the cinemas at Marion. The last time I came I see they've done some renovations and face lifts, and have changed up their menu a bit. They do the traditional mains like steak, schnitzels, salads, as well as what I've seen unique pasta dishes at very reasonable prices, along with a delicious looking pizza menu. I tried the Salmone Penne dish and absolutely loved it. It was made with real grilled salmon diced up and mixed through the dish beautifully. My partner had the Pollo Avocado with spaghetti, which I would've classified as one of the best chicken pasta dishes I've tried! Yum!! If I lived in the area still Spargos would be one of my regular hot spots for an easy night out for a delicious and inexpensive meal. They have a lot of options on their menu I'd be willing to try sometime alrather. read more

Unfortunately, Spargo's is as disappointing as its décor is tacky and outdated. I went there with a friend before heading to a movie upstairs at Greater Union Marion, but I was wholly discouraged by almost every aspect of my Spargos experience. First of all, the way they take orders is odd and if you order a coffee you have to wait until they make it before you, yourself have to take it to the table which is awkward if you are with a big group or have children and are clogging up the ordering area. Secondly, all of the staff we encountered looked like they wanted to be elsewhere and couldn't really have given a crap if they were serving us professionally or not. I ordered the pasta carbonara which was not great. The sauce was basically just cream and very bland, and it was really runny so it didn't stick to the pasta at all. The one good thing I could say about Spargos is they do a couple of quite good dinner and movie deals which will save you at least $10.00 on your food. read more

Ordered chicken burger was very ordinary was over cooked & had the tiniest bit of slaw in the burger. The chips that came with the meal were over cooked & the deep fryer oil was certainly overdue to be changed. For $21 it certainly wasn't good food or good value. Spargo's is the prefect type of café/restaurant that should be located in a shopping mall, and more specifically underneath the movie megaplex at that. It is not very classy, but hey it's home is Marion Shopping Centre, and considering, it's doing quite well. It's casual, it's nice, and it has so, so much seating- both in doors and out. I would say It's a happy sort of place to dine and the meals are priced reasonably. Although... as far as I am aware a chicken parmigiana should contain ham. Hmm. I guess the Hawaiian Chicken Parmi would solve this dilemma. Lastly, If you have the Entertainment book, they usually have a couple vouchers in there, so make sure you use them in order to obtain a two for one meal! read more

Plenty of seating in this restaurant inside a shopping centre! I mean this place is huge. I can't imagine what's it must be like when it's full. I thought the food was good - we had a cajun chicken pizza, which was big enough for two to share, and it was great. I also had a slice of cake and a coffee and they were both good too. The kitchen is somewhat open and we watched them making their own pizza dough. The prices were ok. The bill came to $36 for the things I mentioned above. I like that they're open late, even after the rest of the shopping centre is closed (to match the schedule of the movie theater, I assume?). Everything else around here closes so early, so that's a real plus. The service was great, everybody really friendly and helpful. We ordered at the counter and then they brought the food to us. No sense of frustration from the clearly over-worked waitress (there appeared to be only one for the whole restaurant that day!). They're also very kid-friendly, with lots of high-chairs and a kids area with little chairs and tables. In this kids area there's a huge blackboard wall and buckets of coloured chalk. There's a big outdoor area but it gets smokey because the bar next door allows smoking on their patio. This isn't Spargo's fault, it's the SA government's fault for its retrograde smoking legislation. But unfortunately it means that this patio isn't as enjoyable as it could be. read more

Love Spargo's but it can be very noisy and there's not a lot of room between tables, so it's easy to hear other people's conversations when you don't actually want to. Service very efficient and friendly, portion sizes more than adequate and very reasonably priced. I will happily keep returning to Spargo's, A decrease of the background music volume would be greatly appreciated. read more

Been here lots- just lately the food has been getting bland and the preparation a little sloppy.

Ordered 4 pastas, 2 of them had the wrong type of pasta that we had asked for. We informed the waitress and she said it was the kitchen's mistake and we told her not to worry. Then when eating some of one we discovered that it had onion, which the person eating the pasta is allergic to. By that point, the 3rd mistake, we couldn't be bothered asking for a new meal and packed our meals up. We told the waitress about the onion but nothing was offered. So yeah basically they didn't try to follow even one request, wouldn't bother wasting your money for the service. read more

Great place to eat before the movies and a great selection on the menu. I have been here on numerous occasions and i love the typical cafe style and atmosphere. I am impressed with their improvement on their healthy options but would absolutely love if they did healthy smoothies all day as opposed to breakfast. When I went there I tried to order a salad but they were out of Quinoa and did not want to make any more and told me it needed to have brown rice instead. Not a huge problem, but something that the kitchen could have easily fixed. read more

You would be better off dining at Hungry Jack's. I ordered the big breakfast. The bacon was very fatty and charred in places which ruined the taste of everything it touched. The toast was cold. The eggs tasted weird. The tomatoes, and all of the ingredients really, were low quality. I would be upset with this dish even if it were a gift. I will not be coming back here. read more

Twice now i have had breakfast at Spargo's, The decor is old and dated, the place wasn't that clean and the staff are just ok, and all that can be over looked if the food is good, the food OMG the food.... I had the breakfast bruschetta, my friend had bacon and scrambled eggs. Dry dry dry as a sandy desert in my mouth, how can a couple of dry pieces of bread toasted on once side with a very thin piece of ham with some over cooked eggs that are a strange yellow/orange colour on top can be called Bruschetta, we both didnt finish our plates.... they both looked like someone didnt care at all about some eggs and bacon.... very sad looking breakfast, i wont be going back. lots of other places to eat. Had lunch here today. Ordered focaccia's (salmon, chicken and chicken ceasar) two juices and a wine. The person taking our order was rude and had no manners. The juices came from a bottle. My focaccia (chicken ceasar) was inedible. Mainly the bread itself. I ended up eating only the contents and left the bread and the others left some of the bread on their plates. The cafe/restaurant itself looks good after the renovations although it is noisy even though 1/2 empty. Not worth the $60 we paid. read more
