Excellent grocery store in the midst of a bunch of touristy shops. We love going to grocery stores in other countries - wish we had been able to go to one in a more local-type area, but this was lovely. Not many tourists that I could tell, and the fact that most of the staff didn't speak English tells me it's not a store intended for tourists.
I wandered in one day and searched the whole place, finding interesting sauces, soups, treats, breads - wish I could have brought home a cartful, but I just got a fun sauce for my husband to cook with. I did NOT choose the "American sauce" - though I would love to know what the heck that is.
I was a bit hungry and I walked by the delicious-smelling bread/bakery area. The guy behind the counter was very helpful, and I ended up getting what might have been my favorite food item the whole time we were there - a small ring of white bread with green olives in it - holy crap that was amazing!
I scoped out the goodies and found that the Mozart balls (local chocolate treat) were WAY cheaper than at all the tourist places. We came back later to get some to share with others at home, and also got small shots of local liquers for less than half the price the tourist shops were charging.
The staff were very helpful and nice, and those who didn't speak English were more than willing to let me try to communicate nonverbally - always love that.
