Lots of seating options: on the lawn, under a covered patio and inside. The bar area was huge and had whiskey, non alcoholic options and of course wine- theirs and international ones. Food menu had some great options. We bought a bottle of German wine (we didn't like any of their wines) and ordered the charcuterie board and the apple/sausage flatbread. The flatbread was delicious! The bread was soft and yet a bit crispy on the edges and the toppings were plentiful. The charcuterie board had plenty of cheeses, cold cuts, flatbread slices, vegetable salad (?) and dipping sauces. I was disappointed there were no olives though. We sat on the covered patio that had overhead heat lamps which helped to keep us warm. I loved the vibe there! All the servers were so friendly and everything was clean and well kept.

We had been going to another nearby orchard for apple picking, but the shine wore off that and Weston Red Barn Farm is our new pick. It's a great little escape from Kansas City that's under an hour drive from downtown itself. They have: -Tons of pumpkins -A maze -Goats, chickens, horses, pigs, and other animals -Cider slushies, candies, and fall goodies While we most recently visited on a Monday (kids were off school), the weekends are where it's at here. They have more food options, pony rides, and other fun stuff for the kids. It's understandably quieter during the week. Oh and let's not forget the overall setting: bucolic, relaxing, and pretty beautiful for Missouri countryside is I may say so myself. I totally see why people get married here.

I have to give a lower rating this year because they don't have much on their website as far as Covid guidelines. I reached out to see if they'd allow visitors to walk to the pumpkin patch to avoid the crowded wagon and they said no. I also asked if the wagons would have distance between seats and they said no. I realize outside is a little safer but I don't want to be forced onto a wagon with strangers who may not be wearing masks. This review is more for people who are wondering about their guidelines and if it's safe. They do usually have pre-picked pumpkins for sale that you don't have to ride a wagon to get to which is nice but I think I'll have to find a pumpkin patch that has some actual guidelines for Covid this year.

Kenna is quite amazing with her presentation and the quality of food exceeds any expectation we've ever had. Unfortunately, a quick getaway this time quickly turned into an unpleasant experience. After dinner both of our keycards stopped working. We called the Inn for assistance and knocked on the main door but received no response. Luckily, another patron of the Inn easily slid a credit card into the room door jam and unlocked our door. We were lucky to have someone help us get into the room but equally concerned with the fact that the room door had to be left open/unlocked for the remainder of our stay to avoid future lockout situations. Additionally, the lack of effort it took for someone to open our door is more than concerning for safety reasons. To top off a lovely day and a hiccup with our keys not working the Inn elected to charge us extra (above our nightly rate) for unknown reasons. Again, calls to the Inn were not answered or returned. I don't usually take time to write reviews and would have overlooked our room keys not working if it wasn't for the unknown charges on our card. It's sad to experience what I would call a potential for a 5-star review be handled so poorly due to a lack of any response from the Inn. I hope this review prompts the Inn to improve the quality of communication and duty of care for their patrons.

We stopped to ask a gentleman standing in front of the hotel if any coffee shops were open. Enter Tony, the kindest most amazing man. He explained that all the shops are closed on Monday and Tuesday.. Then he told us to wait a minute, and he got a coffee pot and brewed us a cup! We were blown away by his kindness. As we chatted with him we discovered he wasn't even working! He had just stopped in to check on something for his boss. THIS is what small towns America is all about! The downstairs is apparently used these days for special events. There is a gorgeous painted ceiling on the first floor; most or all of the woodwork appears to be original. The upstairs includes a Victorian bedroom, and also showcases a few pieces of fine clothing and a delicate pair of women's shoes that are over 100 years old, I think. There were also some other assorted items on display. Some, but not all, of the items upstairs relate to outlaw Jesse James, who lived elsewhere in St. Joseph. Backwoods 222 I…read moreattended a wedding at Backwoods 222 in Gower, Missouri, and the event space is very nice. It has two bedrooms upstairs that can be used for a his-and-hers setup or for people staying for a weekend event or conference. There are breakout rooms without doors and some rooms downstairs with curtains. The kitchen has a freezer, refrigerator, double sink, microwave, and large trash cans. I can't remember if there was a stove. The building has three levels and was built in 1863--it used to be a museum. It's about five miles west of Gower and 15 miles from Trimble. I attended on November 21st when it was cold and rainy, so we couldn't use the patio, but pictures show it's beautiful. The bathrooms really impressed me--clean floors, clean toilets, and well kept. Aimee was onsite most of the event, and she was very helpful. She emptied the trash before leaving and was very compassionate and concerned about the guests. What stood out were the handwritten ICE (In Case of Emergency) signs posted around the venue with the address and directions to give police or emergency services. She also had Kleenex and hand sanitizer everywhere. I can tell she loves her place and keeps it very clean. She also has a room full of decor like vases, centerpieces, "bride and groom" items, and things for events. I live in Raymore, Missouri, and it was worth the drive. I would highly recommend Backwoods 222.
