DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE WITH YOUR PRECIOUS ANIMALS!!!! I called about my cat after she had a surgical procedure done in their clinic. I tried for a week to find different ideas to help my cat recover from this procedure. I call and speak to Cameron. He tells me they are very busy so the doctor will get back to me not till after 6pm it tomorrow morning. I felt that was very unreasonable and he told me that my cat was obviously not that important to me otherwise I would have called sooner! read more

When I lived back in Spanaway, this vet clinic was my go to for great service and close proximity to my house. I recently went back to WA for vacation and my mom needed help by taking her dog to the clinic for shots while she was at work. I went and called around to get quotes on pricing for shots and flea medication. The lady who answered the phone was very courteous and told me they do sell Comfortis flea medication there, and were having a deal. They also had a special going on for new clients. I told them I would be at the appointment but was taking my mom's dog in, and they said it was no problem and walk ins were available. When I get to the establishment, I was told to fill out the paperwork in my name since I was the person present with my mom's pet. I know I was in their system since I used to live in the area, and it wouldn't be a problem. Either way, they had just switched from paper copy to digital so everyone was a "new patient" and still qualify for new client on the first exam. Well we got seen and the vet told me they don't sell comfortis. I asked why would I have been told they sell it over the phone then? I end up taking the vet's suggestion and try out nexguard. After the appt, I go to pay. 1. They put me as the owner of the dog when I told them over the phone and as I was checking in that I'm here for my mom's dog. The lady said it would take too long for her to change everything over and they would eventually get to it. 2. I no longer applied for their new client special since I was a client from years ago and they made me the owner of my mom's dog. 3. I didn't apply for a military discount because I was a walk in appt I'm very disappointed in how I was mislead and this is NOT the communication nor service I had received years ago when I was living in Spanaway. I've given them repeat business and they were very great to my dog. And I wish that my mom's dog and my experience taking him had the same level of service. read more

I really appreciate the staff and the Doctors! Great place to take your pets for care.

Horrible experience today. The receptionist was verry unkind and unprofessional. She even went so far as to mock me. Porly managed and unkind. Never going there again. read more

This will be my most heartfelt rating yet. My mom and i brought our dog here as an emergency because he suddenly couldn't walk nor feel his paws. it was almost like he was paralyzed because mentally he was eating and all that. Note this was the only veterinary clinic that would take him on such short notice (we called the second they opened out of 4 others we tried calling because we needed a specialist). They are currently curb side drop off for your pets which is alright if it's just a check up and whatnot but in our case it shouldn't have been. We waited about 25 min for them to gurney our 10 year old basset hound inside to find out what was wrong and we figured it was neurological because he couldn't walk anymore. After an x-ray they called us and told us that it was and that there was pressure being put on his spine and on the nerves that control his paws which is why he couldn't walk anymore. My mum asked her options and one was a procedure with MRIs that would cost over 10k (which we can't afford) so she asked for other options. Another was to hope its bone tumors and put him on steroids which wasn't a guarantee would fix him but would prolong his life a little but he will always be in discomfort and basically need a caretaker for the rest of his days (it hurt to even have him in a little pain because he's a big sweet baby and is sensitive to pain as are a lot of humans). the third option was to humanly euthanize him. We had asked the doctor what he would do if he was his dog and he did vouch for euthanize which my mum knew was gonna happen but wanted to confirm it would be a right decision. before you say why not get a second opinion, it wasn't on our mind at the time, it was in the moment that we were about to lose our first dog or prolong the pain he was in. he was shaking terribly and crying a lot. the problem i have with this vet was even though we chose to euthanize him, we couldn't see him and be with him through the procedure. that's what pissed me off. i understand it is COVID but i work in optical and we still see patients. we all take temperatures. we all wear masks. if i had COVID which we test for, i would not be there. they allowed one person to go in just to say goodbye which was my mum because she needed to see him. i did too but i put her needs over mine. the one thing that i hear vet nurses saying is to never leave your dog in the room alone because you "can't handle it" and let them pass without you knowing that YOU are their family and their comfort and yet we weren't even given the option for that. I will never go here again (nor recommend anyone) because i couldn't see, hug, kiss, and love my dog physically again. they never recommended a second opinion, they won't accommodate to a family who is about to lose their dog, even the nurse who brought out the receipt couldn't say any reassuring words. they couldn't even gurney him back outside for me and his brother to say goodbye because he couldn't move yet they had to gurney him inside so what would the difference make? My dog was likely afraid, sad, confused, and looking for us and it's heartbreaking for ANY family to go through this. Do not make the same mistake we did and go here because they do not care for the mentality of the animal or the animals family. read more

My girlfriend adopted a bunny rabbit from the Humane Society that came with hyphema (bleeding in the front portion of the eye) in one eye. We felt so sorry for the guy, super interactive, would be adopted in a heartbeat if it weren't for the eye condition. So we got him knowing that he has a health condition. We were in a rush to find a vet when the amount of blood seen in the anterior portion of the eye increased overnight. We called a bunch of vet offices in Tacoma, no availability any time soon. Later we received a recommendation to take our rabbit here. They had an availability for the next day with a vet that sees exotic animals. It was a puzzling condition, but the vet was experienced and recognized that it could be E cuniculi, along with some other differential diagnoses. We got some Panacur for E cuniculi, eye drops, and along with some antibiotics to cover for potential bacterial infections as well until the blood test for E cuniculi came back. I also received a referral to see a veterinary ophthalmologist in Seattle, who also felt that it was E cuniculi. And I have to say the diagnostic ability of these vets was spot on! The prices were just, and I did not sweat a bullet looking at the cost of the medications. No unnecessary products or nonsense that we had to reject on the bill. The eyeball got a bit worse but eventually healed up as well as it can after completing Panacur. Our rabbit also bit the lab technician during blood draw. But the tech was super nice about it, which made us feel horrible. Overall, I had a good experience here and trust the vets and staff. Would recommend anybody with exotic pets to come here! read more

I was shocked when I called Spanaway Veterinary Clinic earlier this week to request a refill for NexGard (a one-time flea medicine dose in the form of a chewable tablet as opposed to a topical treatment like Advantage or Frontline). My 1.5 year old Bichon mix has had NexGard several times over the course of her lifetime. I have chosen NexGard over topical treatments at the recommendation of the vet at Spanaway Veterinary Clinic. She had previously advised me that because of my dog's coat, NexGard would be more effective. Since fleas are not generally an issue for my dog, I dose her on an as-needed basis, once every 3-4 months or so if I spot a couple of them. I returned from a vacation on Monday and picked up my dog from a friend's house and found that she was covered in fleas. It was pretty bad. I felt terrible for her, so I called Spanaway Veterinary Clinic to ask for a refill of the NexGard for her. I planned to pick it up on my way home, feed her the pill, then give her a bath when we got home so that she could start feeling better. The receptionist at Spanaway Veterinary Clinic advised me that they would be unable to refill the flea medication for my dog until she has had an exam. Being that I've just gotten home from vacation, money is a little tight. I explained that I understood she was about due for an exam but asked if they would be able to offer a one-time courtesy for the flea medication until next week, as I wasn't able to afford the exam fee right then. I was given an unequivocal "no." To say that I am shocked that this establishment would absolutely not budge for an animal in need is an understatement. I was in tears on the phone with the receptionist as well as the manager practically begging for them to give me a one-time courtesy. After all, this is a medication she has had SEVERAL times. I was informed told that my dog would need to be up-to-date on her exams in order to receive the medication. At one point, the manager said to me "I am sorry you allowed your dog's fleas to get that bad. That's terrible. I feel awful for her." How condescending and how incredibly rude of someone at a veterinary clinic to say something like that without offering any actual assistance. I was never offered any alternatives such as being billed for the exam later; the only thing offered was to bring my dog in for an exam, which I mentioned several times I wouldn't be able to afford until next week. The fact that Spanaway Veterinary Clinic downright refused to help an established patient is appalling. It is clear that their interests were not in the safety of my dog. If they had my dog's best interest at the forefront of their mind, alternatives would be given. A one-time courtesy refill. An offer to allow for a payment plan in order for my dog to be seen so that she could get the flea medication that she needed. As a pet owner, it is our responsibility to keep our animals happy and healthy; however, accidents happen and the best thing for us to do in these cases is to look to our veterinary clinics for help and guidance. I take full responsibility for not doing my research on whether my friend's animals had fleas. However, I did my part by immediately trying to remedy the situation. It is an incredibly sad thing to know that the place I trusted with my dog's health would refuse to refill a medication she has had several times throughout her life because I was unable to pay for her exam that same day. The good news is that I tried some Advantage II on my dog and, to my surprise, it worked! While I am happy that my dog is now flea-free, I again am saddened to learn that I had been buying NexGard at the recommendation of the vet at Spanaway Veterinary Clinic when a topical medication would have worked just as well. It just goes to show that this establishment never really had my dog's best interest at heart, just a desire to upsell and overcharge me for a medication I thought she needed. I will not be taking my dog nor my cat back to this establishment and honestly, you shouldn't either. read more

Every single time I have ever gone in here. It's a crap show. The older lady is ALWAYS rude to other employees & overlooks patients waiting. I had a noon appointment today. I Walk in & there were people everywhere. The older lady does not know who's been helped or not. I get my papers to fill out & stand there for a few before she finally takes them. Then she tells me it will be at least 30 min wait. It was 12:15 at that time. Why schedule an appointment. We also took our cat here for a Spay a couple years ago & when I went to pick her up they could not find her file. So...I sat in waiting room while they searched everywhere. I figured I would give them another try, since our regular vet office is really busy & further away but that was my mistake. I will not return. I have edited my stars from 1 to 3 because this is not the vet themselves. The issues I have encountered have always been interactions with the older receptionist & when she is working. read more

My pets have been patients of Spanaway Vet Clinic for 17 years and I have recommended them to many people for their kindness and quality of care. Family members take pets there. Today I contacted them about my cat who injured her eye last evening and has been a patient there since she was a newly adopted kitten. Instead I encountered the rudest receptionist who flatly told me we don't take emergencies. Couldn't tell me when this new rule took place and I know it was not the policy in the past. She said next appointment was June 29th! Totally indifferent to injury to cat and very rude to me. Not at all like the nice ladies that were there for years. I don't know if ownership or policies at Spanaway Vet Clinic have changed but clearly if this is the sort of front desk person they now employ, I worry about the overall quality of care and am looking for a new vet. read more

If you care about your pets please don't take them to Spanaway Vet Clinic. I brought my dogs to the clinic to be groomed. At check in I was told they needed their vaccines updated or they couldn't be groomed there and told me that they could do it while they were there. Upon picking them up, my miniature schnauzer, Shelby, was very lethargic. I brought her home and she just laid on the couch and didn't eat. I reached out and was told by Spanaway Vet Clinic that was a normal reaction to vaccines. By Sunday she still wasn't eating and continued to lay on the couch. I brought her to Sumner Vet hospital where she needed to have a blood transfusion, oxygen and was admitted overnight. I once again reached out to Spanaway Vet Clinic and updated them on the situation. They stated that they would have to get a report from Sumner Vet to look over and assess their liability. Wednesday, I called again and I was told by the Hospital manager that she went over the paperwork and claimed they weren't at fault. I was brushed off and told that they do this all time. She had no empathy for the situation and said "the dogs fine now anyway, right?" No my dog isn't fine, this shouldn't have happened, especially considering getting vaccines wasn't the reason she was brought in. At her follow up appointment with Sumner Vet, I was told Spanaway Vet Clinic never requested any records, including the report which their hospital manager claims they looked over. Now I'm over $4,000 in vet bills and my baby still has to keep getting bloodwork and can never have vaccines again. I'm just praying she makes it. Spanaway Vet refuses to talk to me and was told that their attorneys would be emailing me, which still hasn't happened. Please stay away from Spanaway Vet Clinic. read more

I am so disappointed in this place. I did my research and it had good reviews and felt I could trust them with my pet. 1) the lack of communication is horrible, they don't show you x-rays, lab results, or even give you instructions on when or how to feed your dog medicated food, unless you request which take up to 3 days to receive. 2) the nurses or whoever answer the phone are rude and seem annoyed when you ask them to many questions. 3) they prescribed me a food for my dog that was disconnected and told me I just need to keep looking until I find it. Good thing I did my own research and had to ask for a prescription card so I can purchase it which took 3 days to get. 4) they nearly killed my pet. I brought him in for a 4 week follow up for x-rays and urine testing, after having him for 7hrs I picked him up, and he didn't seem right. Couldn't walk, pee, poop, eat...nothing. I called the vet within 5 minutes of getting home and was told THIS IS NORMAL! WELL....it wasn't normal my dog would drink water and throw it up within 2mins. I ended up rushing him to urgent care at 9 pm because his passage was blocked. My dog ended up having to have emergency surgery. So thank you SVC for charging me about $600 for doing nothing for my dog and for almost killing him. I'd honestly wish I could get a refund. I would NOT recommend this place. read more

This place is extreme and unprofessional including the staff. We took our pets down there for an appointment. Sure enough this confused person answered the phone and made us wait for 30 minutes till he came out and he got it confused and took another persons pet before us. A week down the road, I had to take her to another vet to figure out she actually had illness. Worst customer service. If you want to waste your time and money then feel free to go there. read more

Took AMAZING care of me and my guinea pig. MJ was acting strange this morning and no one would take me in as I wasn't an existing patient, even the 24hr emergency vet was looking at an 8hr wait. My boyfriend called here and their exotic vet was able to squish us in for a 4:30 appointment. Every time I called back to ask dumb questions on if I could bring both my guineas since they were bonded or how I should transport them everyone was kind and professional in answering me. It was deemed my piggie had a stroke of sorts and was having mini seizures and needed to be put down as he was older than I had originally thought him to be and his quality of life had took a quick turn for the worse. All the staff was genuinely concerned for my pet and even helped tend to me crying as well as helped explain everything clearly so there were no hidden expenses. The exotic vet even took the time when my pig pooped on the blanket he was carried away in to make sure that when he was wrapped up that he was clean and respected in his last moments on earth. She even brought my other pig out of the carrier so he knew what happened to his friend after I walked out of the exam room which meant the world to me as well as my remaining guinea I'm sure. I'll definitely be switching this to my main vet for my cats and guineas as the staff is very considerate and the exotic vet is AMAZING. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. First of all they let my boyfriends mother who DID NOT have permission, bring my cat in. I have brought him in for the same thing 3 times and the last time was told it maybe a birth defect. This was NEVER mentioned the first 2 times that he was brought in. They have NO sympathy for people that are dealing with sick pets. Their hold message says to be kind to the staff but I think they need to take their own advice. Once I get the blood results I will NEVER bring my cat back to their office.( which I have been playing phone tag for over 24 hours to get) Feels like it is about the money and not a concern for peoples sick pets. **update** Took my cat to the cardiologist and was told to come back in a year for check up. Was told by Spanaway veterinary his heart rate was 1100 beats per min and cardiologist said unheard of! They wanted me to bring my cat in to put to sleep the day I got results!!! He is doing good and way better. No thanks to this place!! I deserve a refund for all the visits with no answers! They wanted me to kill my cat! I advise to go elsewhere. I know this place is cheap and convenient because they get you in soon. I say wait and bring your animal elsewhere. Not to mention the unsympathetic employees. Don't go here!!!! read more

We've been coming here for years. In fact Dr. Fitzpatrick has been seeing my two pups since they were born. Even though we moved out of the area we continue to bring our pups here because the vets here are the only ones I trust. The staff is ALWAYS kind and courteous. They treat us like family. On top of that I've seen some of the crap they put up with from other owners in the waiting room: in all honesty I couldn't do their job. I'd lose my shit on some self- entitled dog owner who has no idea what they're talking about. The pricing is very transparent, and more than reasonable. The treatment plans are also very conservative, which I appreciate. I know I can trust all of the vets here to give me a straight answer, and not over treat my pets. They do not deserve a star rating!!!! My friend has a dog that was loosing weight. Her clinic continually wanted to do testing, charging her more and more money!!! Finally she called, due to fact that she did not have the budget for more testing!! I looked at the poor baby and it was obvious, something was very wrong!! I took her to my vet in Tumwater. 30 minutes later, we had the SAD answer!!! She has intestinal cancer with other cancer starting due to fact that the Spanaway clinic was inept, not wanting to do the right work, either by lack of ability or bad judgement!!!! Now she is dying and will only last a few more days. In my opinion, and others that are involved in the poor dogs life, and loved her...this clinic has cost her, her life, and has charged for testing that was unnecessary to conclude the actual dogs prognosis and save her life!!! read more

I am NOT slandering this company but rather giving you an accurate and true representation of our recent dealings that have unraveled the 8 year relationship we had with this clinic. On May 2nd our 9 month old Mastiff-Hound mix was running in a park and was impaled by a stick. I initially took her to Affordable Animal Emergency in Auburn, which is where the accident happened and was the only open Vet I could find at 7PM. They provided us with x-rays and stated that they recommended exploratory surgery to see what was left inside the wound, if anything. Since I was told nothing was life-threatening, I declined and opted to have our regular vet take care of that portion the next morning when they opened. Saturday May 3rd Dr. Wright performed surgery on our puppy. They removed a single piece of grass from the wound and also put in a drain tube. She had a bump near the entry wound that appeared to be a little pointy but mainly shaped like a bubble. She was brought home and we continued flushing the wound as directed. Over the next few weeks she continued to heal but developed a second, smaller lump on her chest area just below the original one. Over time, this second lump continued to grow. So on June 8th we took our puppy in and SPECIFICALLY requested they take another look at her lump to see if they thought any other objects were in there. We saw Dr. Slaybaugh who advised us that a culture would need to be sent off to see what was causing this lump. He assured us that it must be bacteria because the wound was professionally cleaned and closed. Let's fast-forward to today (and please keep in mind this is 7 WEEKS after the original accident with the stick)... I just got off the phone with Dr. Wright after having gone back to Spanaway Vet clinic and having them perform a second surgery to remove the "sliver" (or chunk of wood - as I refer to it) that was LEFT INSIDE MY PUPPY'S CHEST FOR SEVEN WEEKS. You can see the picture below along with a quarter for size reference. What it boiled down to is that it was Dr. Wright's, and Spanaway Vet Clinic's, professional opinion that they provided my dog with an "adequate level of service." I, as a dog owner/animal lover, feel that all of you animal lovers should understand that THIS is the type of "adequate" service your vet could be providing you. Please take warning. I had no other recourse than to request that they not re-charge me for something they should have (in my opinion) originally fixed to begin with. I would have no problem paying for the new antibiotics, pain medication, and sterile flush but I felt that their re-charging me for the sedation, surgery expenses, and doctor's time was unacceptable. Dr. Fitzpatrick, who did the surgery yesterday and finally removed this chunk of wood, didn't charge me for her time as she thought this was the right thing to do. I re-paid for everything else. Dr. Wright, I've appreciated your company's care over the last few years and I want you to know that this is most certainly not "about the money." As I told you on the phone, I don't feel it is "professionally correct" for me to pay (financially) for something my puppy has already paid for (physically) over the past 7 weeks. How about you take some accountability for your inability as a care provider? I understand that not all foreign objects can be found under muscle, and don't show up on x rays, however the end-all be-all here is: If THIS is "adequate" service in accordance with Spanaway Vet Clinic's standards I am more than happy to take my puppy, and my dog, elsewhere in the hopes that they receive better care. I would certainly recommend others look into doing the same. My name is Ryan Cole and you can see the pic on my facebook page. And Spanaway Vet's page - until they take it down. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR BABIES TO THIS CLINIC!!! I have never had to write a review in my life, but I absolutely cannot believe what i've had to deal with today. I wanna start by saying this - I understand that human and animal health care workers are under A LOT of stress and scrutiny right now, but that doesn't mean it's ok to be negligent. my boyfriend and I were grateful to find someone who could neuter our little guy during this crisis. when we dropped our babies off this morning they were doing curb side pick up. the woman who came out was ridiculously cold and standoffish, she rushed us and cut us off and tried to walk away everytime we asked a simple question like, "when will they be done?", and refused to take the little care bag id made them which had their oats, some apples and grapes, their water, two little toys which they find comfort in, and a shirt of mine which they sleep in every night so they have my smell incase they're scared. the most information we could get from her was "we will call you when they are ready to be picked up, the surgery is around 9 and will be done no later than 11." well 11 rolls around and no call, they didn't answer ours. then noon, still nothing. finally at 2 we got a text from a friend who works at the clinic saying, "my coworker said they did so good! they finish like an hour ago.." we rushed down there because something felt off and I didn't understand why they needed to be kept so long and why NO ONE contacted either of us. another 25-30 minutes passed by while we sat in the parking lot waiting, when a nurse finally came out to our car. she handed us a piece of paper that had our billing info on it, and the crate with our babies. I will tell you right now, I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO UPSET by the sheer ignorance and lackadaisical work. when we had dropped them off I made a point to be VERY CLEAR when i said they CANNOT be kept in the same cage, hence me bringing them in TWO SEPERATE enclosures. 1) they couldn't be together before surgery because we didn't want them to have babies, and 2) the CANNOT be kept together afterwards because even if the male is coned, his sister will groom and lick and bite his surgical site!!!! we were given absolutely no info, they wouldn't tell us how the visit went, wouldn't give us after care information, no medication, no instructions, NOTHING! all we got was one of our travel cages with both babies in it, and the first thing I noticed was his sister licking and biting his stitches!!!! to top it all off, we were quoted $180 for the whole nine yards and ended up with a bill of nearly $300 with absolutely no explanation. we finally get home and are nevrous and scared, seeing that neither of us had any idea what to do - so we decided to call. it took us three tries to get absolutely nothing. first phone call we were hung up on, second time the same thing. on our third try we were told that 'he was fine' oh and apparently we need to be back tomorrow at noon for more doses of meds???? would've been nice to know when we were there??? I just can't believe this and i'm praying my baby will be ok - he hasn't been doing well and i'm scared that I may have closed my baby his life by going to this fucked off clinic DO NOT GO HERE !! DO NOT GO !! IT DOESNT EVEN DESERVE ONE STAR !! FUCK THIS CLINIC read more

The staff is nice and the vets are helpful and good treating my dogs but I don't like the fact that I made an appointment 2 weeks before since if you wait a day all appointments for the following week to 2 weeks are taken and once I got there my appointment was from 3:30-4 and I sat there waiting until after 4 for them to finally see my dog. really inconvenient. read more

Over the years, we have moved several times and seen vets here and there (none of them wowed us, seriously... none). We finally settled in Spanaway, found Spanaway Vet Clinic and are so very thankful that we found them. They are a pretty busy establishment and they've always seem to work us in when we have needed their services. They have been great with our four legged family members and we finally have our Veterinarian. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. They do not care about their customers. We have a kitten with an infection and after 2 visit we were told that the surgery could not be done here and were referred to a specialist. We were only given a brochure with no other information and when I called THAT SPECIALIST DOES NOT EXIST. I think it's basic responsibility to make sure your referrals EXIST. Do your research. It's YOUR job. We also had to grab more medication for his infection because our appointment with the specialist (we had to find a new one by ourselves) was not until much later. After calling, they told us we needed to bring our kitten in, but unfortunately the next appointment was not until the afternoon. Since we work, we had to bring our kitten into work and wait. Turns out WE DIDN'T EVEN NEED OUR KITTEN THERE. We had to keep our kitten in a kennel for 3 hours!!!!!!!!! We then had to wait in the parking lot for 30 min because they DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WE WERE DOING THERE. I called for this appointment less than 24 hours beforehand, and they are telling me they didn't know what we were doing there. Furthermore, the receptionist/front desk ladies are EXTREMELY rude and disrespectful. They are zero patience and do not want to work with you. When scheduling a 2nd visit the lady sighed many times and seemed to be rolling her eyes behind her phone. I only made a simple mistake when booking the appointment and its seemed like she was doing me a favor by even speaking to me! Also there seems to be ZERO communication between staff. When speaking to another technician or receptionist they have no clue what kitten we are talking about, what we are doing there, who we are etc. We are repeating ourselves two to three times in ONE visit. A visit that should have only taken 10 min took more than 1 hour, because of NO communication. After these visits I questioned what the purpose of bringing my kittens here. We spend near 300 dollars to be right where we started before we came here. DO NOT COME HERE AND FIND A NEW VET. read more
