I originally pooh-poohed the place going solely by the Googly pics but OMG so glad Steve chose this place! Many plants and beautiful irises outside. BUT...I stepped INSIDE the store and the first thing I noticed was the bakery section. Okay, so only one item was gluten free (local bakery offerings) but they were lavender meringues and they were only $1 each! A super unique treat for me! Steve found the freezer with the meat. YOU MUST BUY THE MEAT! Buy ALL the BACONS! We fried up the Irish bacon today (had to find out how to cook it just right) and it was soooo good. Very different and much much much better than any store bought bacon. We also purchased Canadian bacon to try later this week. The tomatos were the first of the season. I cut one up for a tomato, spinach and brie omelette and the tomato flavor stood out. Very very good flavor! I would love (and hope to) return for produce this summer...and for eggs. Some of the items were a bit pricey for us (bacon was a steal for the quality, though) like the bourbon maple syrup and the duck pastrami however these are top notch products I have not seen anywhere else and honestly, the syrup is on my shopping list now if I do ever get back to Holbrook Farm. We also bought local coffee but haven't ground the beans yet. BTW the proprietress was very kind and patient and lovely. Please visit!

"More interesting" is exactly what you'll find at the smallish North Salem Farmers' Market in Croton Falls. Open on the 2nd Saturday of each month through September, 9am to 2pm, this inaugural year features a smallish group of the tastiest the region has to offer, showcasing quality foods, organic produce, flowers, and handmade goods. The last market of the season will be on September 14th and it's worth a special trip. Set in one corner of the massive Croton Falls parking lot, there's plenty of parking plus easy accessibility via Metro North. This market may be physically smaller than many others, but the contents are huge. Small enough to visit every vendor, big enough to satisfy every taste.... This past Saturday, in addition to live music and a row of picnic tables, the vendors included Macha Thomas teas, locally grown fresh flowers from Wild Iris, lathed pots and bowls from Platform, French cured meats from Larchmont Charcuterie's Chef Daniel Teboul, unique hand pies and very tasty breads from Katonah mainstay LMNOP Bakery, the most colorful batch of mushrooms you've ever seen from Tivoli Mushroom, a stunning array of fresh fruit and veggies from Fino Farms and DG Farms plus many more. Whether you're new to farmers' markets or a seasoned pro, this one is worth a stop. It seems to have hit exactly the right balance between too much and too little. As the bear says, this one feels just right....

No cover charge and I could eat a dozen donuts. We got the scones and apple strudel as well. Both 12/10! The apple cider is also off the charts. Some of the best I've had. The pies are super fresh and I wanted one of everything! They post that they sell at local DeCicco's as well but can't confirm if it's all flavors... No u pick apples but they have every variety imaginable in the stand and all were fresh like they were picked that day. Plenty of other farm fresh veggies and honey. There is also some spots to eat outside and a food truck with some pizza and bbq options. The road to get here is a little rough. Super narrow and some spots where only one car can pass at a time. There is a parking lot and street parking available. Would very much depend on the time of day and year you are going but we were able to get a spot in front at the end of the day. Would definitely recommend for anyone of all ages especially if you love apple cider donuts!

Not super friendly staff. The cheddar scone was suepr dry and tough - it wasn't flaky at all.

There was a lot going on throughout, including awesome live music, hot apple cider, farm store filled with gourmet products, multiple food vendors, pumpkin cheesecake tastings, and of course the vast orchard where all the apple trees were, which were all located uphill. There were over 10 different types of apples, such as Mutsu, Evergreen, Macoun, Snapdragon, and Honeycrisp. I mostly collected the more unique kinds. I also managed to locate the Pear trees, way behind the hay riding area. I picked Asian and Bosc pears. We went on a hay ride, which was $5 and it was rustic, bumpy, giving a sweeping view of the beautiful orchard grounds. Back in the main area, we had lunch. By this time, lines were pretty long, so we divided and conquered, as well as found a place to sit. I shared Pork Ribs and Fries, which were both very tasty. The Ribs were delightfully tender and well seasoned. Fries were perfectly crispy. One draw back was that most everything at the store and most lunch items were quite expensive. Overall, there were great vibes, and I really enjoyed the views at the farm, apple / pear picking, as well as the hay ride.

We started down at the bottom of the hill with "Apple Cannons" ! Pneumatic launchers that lobbed our apples into an old truck, pumpkins, hay bales, and fun targets. So awesome! Then we headed up to the main event and wow! It was a total vibe! - A live band playing exactly the perfect country music you'd expect at an apple orchard on a cool fall day. - Vendors selling soft & hard cider, juice, various hot foods, and my personal favorite, hot fresh apple cider donuts! - Costumed characters walking around passing out trick or treat candy to the kids. - An Apple orchard! Row after row after row of apple trees, most were picked pretty clean, but we found lots of juicy and delicious fruit waiting for us on the trees. You can wander around and eat whatever you want or buy a bag and take some home... We did both! Inside there's a general store and souvenir shop as well, and everyone we let or talked to was helpful and friendly, but we had all our fun out in the open.

We had a wonderfully impromptu weekend sojourn to Fable Farm this past Saturday to pick up some local cider and donuts. Little did we know that Fable is also home to a slew of chickens and goats who are packed with personality and pluck, and totally made our day with their sweet and adorable antics! We had a great time watching the animals hang out and peck around their spacious pen enclosure, safe from the masked onlookers who came to gawk at the majesty of farmland critters. Honestly, any interactions with cute barnyard characters is a high point to my day, so Fable gets five stars on that alone! We also loved the local farmer's market that sets up here, and even though it was close to closing for the day, we were able to browse around for a bit. I didn't buy anything, but the produce looked fresh and there were lots of other locally made goods like honey and soaps. We'll be back for sure next time when we have more time to look around at all the offerings! The local cider and scrumptious donuts were our initial mission, and they did not disappoint. The cider was juicy and tangy, and I couldn't stop drinking it for the rest of the evening once we got home. I was able to limit myself to one cider donut (brushed with cinnamon sugar - yum!), but that was so difficult! My boyfriend's mom was delighted with the cider donuts we brought home for her, too. I highly recommend checking out Fable Farm for a low-key autumn afternoon activity!
