This is the family orchard you've been looking for. Affordable, no lines, amazing market, free parking, and wonderful decorations. Whether it be a stroll through the trees or picking out a pumpkin, this place has it all. It's very interactive for kids and I would buy one of everything in the market if I could. The peanut butter cups are amazing and the pies will knock your socks off. This whole property is also very well maintained by the staff.

Blue jay orchards is by far the greatest apple picking experience I ever had. The fields had huge trees covered in many different types of apples and also a really good store. The fields seemed endless and the further we walked the more they had. The apple bags where 2 for $20 for the smaller ones and they easily hold 12+ apples in each plus plenty to eat while walking around and trying out the different varieties. The store has a huge selection of pies, jelly's , honeys, apple cider donuts and much much more.

Great place to go for apple picking! There are 2 massive orchards so it was never too crowded esp when we're suppose to be practicing social distancing. The pumpkin selection was just okay. It's not really a place where you pick your own pumpkin anyway. Will definitely be back next season!

I have been going to Blue Jay Orchards with my family for years. Every year, it seems to get a little less appealing to return. This year, we decided to go on a Sunday morning in October. Not only was it a reallllly long walk to find decent apples (it would have been good to have a heads-up about this; I was ready to return our bags and leave), BUT... It was freezing, and not unexpectedly freezing. It's been cold for days. All we really wanted when we were done was a cup of hot cocoa, or hot cider, or hell, I would have been happy with hot water!! But no. Nothing hot to drink. Not. One. Thing. So we had to literally drive to Dunkin' Donuts to get warm beverages to go with our tasty (albeit not warm) apple cider donuts. And I know this sounds very much like a "first world problem", and I'm really not one to complain, but when you've got kids with you, these seemingly insignificant issues can escalate quickly. Sadly, I'm not sure we'll go back...

Farm stand is good to get local jams and jellies but the apples were slim Pickens (no pun intended) when we went. Super muddy and washed out fields too in the fall, wear boots and clothes you won't care about getting dirty. Very busy, but also family friendly.

No complaints! Had a great time apple picking. Lots of amazing items in the gift shop! Brought home a apple crisp mixture and it was delicious!

Apples, Pumpkin Patches, Cider, Cider DONUTS! I love this beautiful orchid. I have so many wonderful memories here. It's such a warm and wonderful place and so represents what new England is all about. Their Apples are wonderful. You can go apple picking here. Or check out all the Pumpkins. Have some warm delightful Cider and have a donut! Blue Jay's has been around for so long. Growing up I was here all the time. Cannot even remember how old I was when my parents first brought me here but I was a happy Blue Jayer ever since. Make sure you try the Apple Cider Donuts and stay awhile. It's a wonderful place.

This is a regular spot we hit every fall for our family apple picking outing. Prices are reasonable and there is always plenty of fruit. Get there early (10am on weekends) before it gets too busy. There is a also a market to pick up cider, bakery items, and jarred goods. Mask required. They also have pumpkins but we usually visit another farm for those in October. They typically have a tractor ride that the kids love, but that was closed. Thanks COVID. Give this place a try and help support local farms.

The farm is also available to book for events such as weddings and baby showers. My family and I recently visited Castle Hill Farm to see their Sunflower Stroll. First we stopped off in their farm stand which was filled with all sorts of fresh vegetables such as tomatoes, corn, peppers, squash, cucumbers, and even local honey. We decided to purchase some delicious looking Graffiti Eggplant as well as a handmade candle that had an intoxicating vanilla aroma. Afterwards we headed into the Sunflower Stroll. Our son had so much fun looking at all of the pretty flowers and pointing out all of the bees. Co-owner Stephanie Kearns told us about other things the farm will be offering in the coming months, including hayrides, the pumpkin patch, and other Fall Fun activities. LOCATION: Wargo leases land that is part of the Southbury Training School property, a campus that was once a fully self-sustaining community. I first came upon it on in 2020 on my way to the nearest highway, and was surprised to find activity in an otherwise abandoned-looking area of the vast property -- at height of a pandemic no less! The orchard is located behind some agricultural structures that reflect a more active past, and invite some interesting photo opportunities. CONCEPT: The founder of Hidden Gem Orchard, James Wargo, has expertise in soil management and crop production. Wargo works closely with esteemed Cornell University pomologist, Ian Merwin, PhD, to grow both new and antique varieties of apples. EXPERIENCE: As a result, a visit is like opening a treasure chest of uncommonly seen and tasted apples, such as Esopus Spitzenberg, a favorite of Thomas Jefferson. A visit to the orchard is tranquil, not a spectacle with crowds, music, and lines. The focus is growing and sharing a love for apples, rather than weekend entertainment. Pick your own in the orchard, or pick up at farm stand. TIP: "Imperfect" apples are available at discounted price. Look out for apple pastries prepared by local baker, Horsehill Provisions.

Keep in mind that there is a "Jones Family Farm Pumpkinseed Hill" at 120 Beardsley Rd., and then the "Jones Valley Farm/Jones Winery" at 606 Walnut Tree Rd. My GPS accidentally took me to the Pumpkinseed Farm at first, but it wasn't a big deal because the winery is just a few minutes away. Once I was in the right place, a staff member greeted me and gave me the wine/food menu. They have a lot of different areas to sit, including a patio with tables/umbrellas (where they had live music playing), a pavilion with tables underneath, an upper patio that was covered by a pergola with leaves/vines on top, and an inside bar area with seating. The inside bar area has garage doors that were open, leading out to the upper patio. Even though it was a hot day, I sat under the pergola and it was surprisingly cool underneath! After sitting down, a staff member quickly came over and took my drink/food order. I tried a glass of the Sunshine White, which was delicious! It was on the sweeter side though. Keep in mind that they only sell wine by the glass on the menu, but they do have a store where you can buy bottles to go. I also ordered the Simply Cheese Plate, which came with sharp cheddar cheese, Jones Berry Chutney, and sea salt crackers. This was excellent! They also do have a "Light Fare" menu with things like a hummus plate, cheesecake, popcorn, etc. The service was fast and the staff were friendly. There was a lot going on throughout, including awesome live music, hot apple cider, farm store filled with gourmet products, multiple food vendors, pumpkin cheesecake tastings, and of course the vast orchard where all the apple trees were, which were all located uphill. There were over 10 different types of apples, such as Mutsu, Evergreen, Macoun, Snapdragon, and Honeycrisp. I mostly collected the more unique kinds. I also managed to locate the Pear trees, way behind the hay riding area. I picked Asian and Bosc pears. We went on a hay ride, which was $5 and it was rustic, bumpy, giving a sweeping view of the beautiful orchard grounds. Back in the main area, we had lunch. By this time, lines were pretty long, so we divided and conquered, as well as found a place to sit. I shared Pork Ribs and Fries, which were both very tasty. The Ribs were delightfully tender and well seasoned. Fries were perfectly crispy. One draw back was that most everything at the store and most lunch items were quite expensive. Overall, there were great vibes, and I really enjoyed the views at the farm, apple / pear picking, as well as the hay ride.
