I came in last week to get a haircut and a shampoo and have been a repeat client for about 3 years now at Spa Tech. I usually book with Jillian & have had nothing but amazing things to say & am always happy with the result! Last week I decided to book a haircut with another student named Aurora. She was very sweet and attentive to me & made me feel like I was in good hands. She gave me an amazing haircut but ever since I have felt very off about the behavior of the instructors... one instructor by the name Justina was very openly rude to Aurora when she was asking for help and as I am hard of hearing she made me feel very belittled by crouching down to hear me and being in my face a little too close for comfort and shouting. although I am hard of hearing I do not need somebody to yell in my ear. I also noticed the students energy shift as soon as she came over it seemed like a very toxic student-instucor enviorment- Justina came over a few times to check on my haircut but seemed very rude to my stylist & the way she communicated with her was very unpleasant. Again, I love my haircut just not the bad energy from the instructors, I have witnessed this before but most of the instructors have always been very patient and welcoming with me ESPECIALLY the student- except for this time. I am more than pleased with the result of my haircut and am very greatful for Auroras patience and respect just not so much the instructor and won't be returning back. read more

Exceptional students and teachers! I got a beautiful cut done for a great price a couple of months ago, so I sent my partner in for a Viking cut that he's been thinking about for a while now. They were able to get him in right away with a very kind gentleman named Jared. The experience was great, with open discussion between Jared and the instructor to make sure that the cut would turn out just right. He ended up nailing it! (See before and after photo) There is a standard of excellence here that I just haven't seen at other cosmetology schools. We have been so impressed by the people and the results, the end product is worth so much more than what you pay here. Had a wonderful facial by Rylan a few days ago. She was kind, attentive, knowledgeable and professional in her care. She additionally answered my questions regarding facial care really in detail, which I appreciated. Also the other folks working or studying there all were friendly and exuded kindness. Even though treatment takes place in a large room with many other clients getting facials, the place was quiet and felt peaceful. Calming music helped to create the Spa feeling. I'm currently a student here. I've never experienced more mistreatment from a school system than I have here. The constant change with instructors provides nothing but instability and insecurity with what we're being taught. Not to mention that depending on who's teaching, it changes the entire dynamic of the class and how we interact with one another. Unfortunately, there are some instructors who seem to be on a power trip and who are not there to teach, but to complicate things. As someone who has paid to be here, who shows genuine interest in perusing their goals within an environment that should be spa-like, it's embarrassing to know that I've provided such funds to people who do not value me. do not waste your money. go to literally any other school, trust me and the other bad reviews. read more

Current cosmetology student -- Wow... where do I start. There is so much to be unpacked at this school. I was excited to start classes, to dive into my artistic abilities and to learn a trade that has become so popular. Unfortunately, I was misguided by their website. The first few weeks isn't bad, but after that? Forget about it. No one knows what's going on on the day to day. Staff doesn't communicate with each other, so no one is ever on the same page. You learn how to roll a 9 block perm as if it's the only hair style anyone will ever ask you to do, and yet, you won't touch your clippers until you get a short haircut that requires them. But no, they don't have a system designed to show what each student has been able to practice, so you get what you get and you deal with it. My bill is just over $23k from this school... and everything in our kit is bottom of the barrel. Not to mention, you still have to buy additional things to take part in their curriculum. For example, if we have competitions for hair or make up, we are expected to bring materials to design something, instead of the school providing it. If we don't bring materials, we work with what we have or what our partner has. For mock boards, you have to buy so many different things to be able to do them. I'd love to know the breakdown of where my money went considering the items in my kit hardly amount to anything and they're so short staffed the poor instructors are overwhelmed every day. This results in them having attitudes 24/7 and talking to you like your stupid, in front of clients and other students. There are actually a few instructors that you can tell peaked in high school, because they're so eager and ready to talk shit about students... and the worst part is they do it where other people can hear them. They do this because there is NO oversite at this place... the "oversight" are two people that have been there forever. It's their way or the highway. They're worried about dress code and name tags... meanwhile, we're rushed through every class we have & stylist are being pushed out the door not knowing anything relevant to today's world. Truly embarrassing as an establishment. It's awful for the VERY FEW solid instructors there are. Their attendance policy is trash. Their expectation is that we pay them $23k for an education, yet they'll decide whether or not you're allowed to receive that education. They act like they don't need us "dumb students" and yet, without us, they wouldn't be employed. If I were you, I wouldn't waste your time, money or energy coming to this place. It's honestly the biggest joke and I could've learned everything I have so far, on YouTube. My suggestion would be to find a job, get your money up, shadow at salons and find someone knowledgeable that can apprentice you. You'll learn so much more, while being more hands on, and you won't have to deal with trivial dramatics put on by the STAFF at this location. And you won't feel like you've thrown away 20k for no reason. There's a review on here from not long ago that have all the same thoughts as I do.... looks like all those surveys we fill out fall on dead ears since nothing changes at this school. No matter how much we inform them that what they do isn't working. "be open to constructive criticism and listen to your clients as they're paying you for a service".... it's almost as if we pay THEM for a service and when we voice our opinions on what can be improved, they tee-hee about it in the office and cram another new class in the building. It's all about the Benjamins, that's the only thing the owners and higher up staff care about. Anyway.... take your money and RUUUUNNNN as far as you can away from this location. Don't let the "top 250 trade school" award from USA Today convince you otherwise... of course they think we're the best.... it's the only school to attend south of the capital. read more

I have no idea how Spa Tech Wesbrook has such a high rating, granted its only 11 ratings, so it's hard not assume the reviews were asked for. Not to mention the schools gives free services to clients who write a review. Anyway, as a student at spa tech the experience is absolutely terrible. None of the teachers are ever on the same page, they all contradict each other, and although we pay loads of money to attend, they still sit in their seat while they watch students do labor. They force class to stop about 20-30 minutes early, even if we are in the middle of a service on one of our classmates, to have us do cleaning that should really be done by a cleaning company or at the very least, the staff who works there. Vacuuming the halls, scrubbing the bathrooms, taking trash out to the trash can. It's one thing if we were to restock our products and clean up our mess, in our classroom, but why do we find ourselves having to clean out the feminine hygiene trashes and cleaning the toilets? We didn't pay to do that, and we don't work for them. We are the reason they have an income. My second complaint is the products themselves. They are terrible. There have been so many reactions to the products we use, and they just continue to use them. This entails the makeup and the skincare products. When I say reactions, I mean anything from burning itchy skin, to breakouts of hives, rashes, and swollen eyes. I've also experienced that the aesthetics program teaches barely anything that is in high demand right now. They do not teach lash extensions, brow lamination, lash lifts, cryotherapy, or even something as simple as a Brazilian or spray tan. Third complaint - From my experience, and what a few others have said to me - when a complaint is filed, or verbally expressed NOTHING is done to address it. Nothing is done at all. Not a word is heard about it ever again. No corrective action, no reasoning to why it can't be corrected. Nothing. If Spa Tech in Westbrook was not my ONLY option, I would have transferred schools. I will never recommend this school to anyone. read more

I have been to Kristianna twice, the last time she trimmed my hair and put in low lights. Kristianna was great. She is very personable. I loved how she made me feel comfortable and relaxed. She is the type of person that you can talk to about anything. She did a great haircut and lowlights. She asked the teacher every step of the way , which made me feel very comfortable. The teacher's name was Daria ( not sure of the spelling) Daria is great. the first time I went there I didn't know how I wanted my hair cut. Daria took the time to look up haircuts on line and when she found a cut she thought would look good on me she showed me the picture and I loved it. She taught Kristianna how to do the cut. I just went here today to get my hair cut and I am pretty impressed with both the students and instructors. Their prices are SO reasonable and for only $8 I got both my hair cut, styled, and washed. I didn't care at all that I was getting my hair cut by someone who hadn't yet graduated because you know you're giving them experience (and money). As I was getting my hair cut, one of the instructors would continually come over and check my hair to make sure all looked well. When they were done cutting my hair, it looked really nice and everyone made sure I absolutely liked it. The student who cut my hair was very friendly, courteous, and right on key with everything I asked for. I would definitely recommend coming here and heck, I'll definitely be coming back here if I ever want a massage or manicure/pedicure! Also in terms of cleanliness, all the floors and work areas were kept clean and the building was actually really nice inside too! read more

I am about to graduate from the Holistic Massage program here. I am so happy to say that this experience has changed my life. When I was told in the beginning that it would, I didn't believe it. After all, I am quite diligent about and committed to my personal and spiritual growth and have designed a life that maximizes that growth. I wasn't prepared for what these learnings, relationships, and practices would do for the interior and exterior of my life. First of all, I have to say that the instruction I received at SpaTech was absolutely top notch. I don't know where SpaTech finds these amazing human beings. They are smart, kind, conscientious, and every one of them is a remarkable teacher. They all have their own different personalities, but each brings passion and compassion to their work. Many of them have been of great assistance to me, personally, as I have been developing my own vision for my bodywork practice. Next, the curriculum is really phenomenal. I feel well equipped to go into the world as a practitioner of both Polarity and massage. The program was rigorous - you cannot fluff your way through this, but I wouldn't want anything else out of a school and program. I was challenged and held accountable. It wasn't an overwhelming amount of work, but certainly enough to keep me learning and humble! The depth and variety of topics is rich...it has been a great education. Lastly, I have developed relationships in this program that I know I will have for the rest of my life. I am blessed to have met these wonderful people. We are all going to go out there and do great work with our minds and hearts wide open. The world will be a better place because of it! I feel like we have all fulfilled an important calling to follow our bliss - and each time a person does that, the vibration on this planet shifts a bit. read more

I've been going to Spa Tech in Westbrook monthly for the past year to have a massage! I have never had a less than excellent experience. Each Therapist has a different style, from the kind of massage you would probably have at a physical therapy practice to a truly zen and meditative rebalancing that leave you pretty much boneless! I enjoy experiencing the difference and plan to keep going forever! They are also very reasonable which makes it possible for me to afford it monthly! read more

Anyone wanting to be a student here, me and everyone who goes here HIGHLY recommend you go elsewhere for your education. Such a waste of money, I regret that I chose to come here everyday. Spatech of Westbrook has given me and others nothing but sadness, disappointment, and yes even depression. The people who run this place don't care about anything but money and girls are either kicked out for months for being 2 mins late or sent home for the day because their ankles are showing. I can assure you I do not travel an hour everyday just to be sent home because my ankles offend people and I'm sure as hell not paying all this money to be kicked out and miss school for months for being 2 mins late. Since I've been here they've taken away phone privileges so now people with kids can't know if their child is hurt or sick and we can not use social media as an outlet to grow our business and clientele. I don't know what they are thinking but it seems like everyday there is a new rule and something else to be disappointed about. I can honestly say this is 1000X worse than any high school and I'm warning everyone to take your money where they will care about you and where you will get a real education. read more

For the past couple years I have been going to cosmotech but they were booked so I headed over to spatech. I told the student what I wanted and then we told the teacher. The student was great. I was getting a bob haircut and hear it's a harder cut for beginners but it always ends up looking great. Except here. I should have known when I told the teacher that I wanted it a minimum of 2 inches below my chin (so not super short) she replied "well they're students here"...ok so no one has started cutting and you're telling me I can't have longer hair? I should have got up now and left however the student knew exactly what I was saying and understood. Well then the teacher came over and basically cut the whole back of my hair to create the length and then let the student do the last few snips. I looked in the mirror and started crying. My hair was at my chin if that. I looked over at the teacher who was standing maybe 10ft away and said I don't like it this isn't what I wanted and she just stood there staring at me. And I asked her if she was going to come over. She did. Her only response was that SHE thought it looked good and that if I wanted a decent haircut I should go elsewhere where they "charge $45". Told her I wanted to speak to someone else and the lady who came out told me the same thing. I got angry and said a few choice words and was told I needed to leave. I did. I then got followed out to my car by the teacher who cut my hair. She was looking at my license plate and I asked her what she was doing and she said she was reporting me to the police for theft. This whole experience was terrible (apart from the student, she was great). I did also call and speak to someone supposedly from a home office. I'm just writing this here as well because I want to make sure his doesn't happen to anyone else. The teachers name was Kristen. So if you do go there and get her and she's not listening, make sure you ask for someone else! Also, if this is a teaching institute where in just a short time these students get sent off to real salons I think it's outrageous to tell me I need to go elsewhere if I want a "decent haircut". The teachers are supposed to be there helping and teaching them for the big world ahead. read more
