The Language Exchange is a resource that is seemingly unique to Portland- A place that offers a wide variety of language courses at different levels, but, more importantly, is committed to cultural events that relate to its various courses. Amazing language school in Portland. Warm environment, great instructors, and reasonably priced. I took Chinese - two group classes as well as a series of private lessons prior to a trip to China. Omg worst experience of my life. The owner is so rude! So I came to her office after just one class told her that I didn't feel the program was for me because it's all in Spanish the book, the class, 0 English. But she encouraged me to give it another shot so I did. I attended one more class and still didn't feel like it was right for me. So when I came to speak with her again I could tell she was offended that I didn't want to continue and I apologized and tried to explain to her that this program is it for everybody. She told me that I couldn't get my money back because they only do refunds after one class. I didn't say anything however I did find it kind of hilarious because I spoke with her after one class. Then she continued to say that she didn't have time to talk to me because she had to go teach a class in half hour. So I asked her when she would like me to come back and her response was, "I don't want to talk about this in person called me ". Seriously what a rude person!!! read more

I took several Italian classes with instructor Emma Adams and had a great time having a fun learning experience with a good group of people. Unlike high school language classes, this one is low-key, interactive and not at all intimidating. I can even order dinner correctly now! I recently took 2 private lessons with a spanish tudor at the school. My third lesson the tudor failed to show up. No huge deal as it happens. She had forgotten about it. The thing is she emailed me and asked if I wanted to reschedule. She did not offer any compensation like extra minutes or a break on the fee for any future lesson. The director of this program did not contact me at all. This speaks for itself. read more
