I had previously had good experiences at hair schools, including Empire, so I booked a foil root touch-up to match the little bit of blonde I have in my dark hair, a deep conditioning treatment, and a haircut for 9:30. Unfortunately, this visit was extremely disappointing. After more than 5 hours, the foiling process still wasn't complete. While I understood my student was learning, there appeared to be very little instructor guidance. When I expressed concerns about the length of the appointment the instructor was dismissive and simply offered to rinse out the bleach and let me leave. I remained there beyond 6 hours and past closing. I was the last customer there. My toner was processed for only a few minutes, and my conditioning treatment and haircut were not completed. The instructor approved the work, and I was sent to pay with soaking wet hair. When I questioned why the remaining services couldn't be completed and voiced my unhappiness, the instructor was quick to threaten to call the police if I did not pay. The school's Director informed me I was not welcome back and stated that customers should expect appointments to last 7.5+ hours. The final result left me with uneven, yellow hair that did not resemble what we discussed. My roots were not properly blended, and I now need to spend over $300 to correct the color. I would not recommend going to Empire school as they like to support there employees who do drugs and also employees who drunk call students after school hours. While the staff does not act professional and still work, but they will kick students out of the school for not punching in and out of lunch accidentally. Empire said it is there policy and they are trying to get the students ready for the real world. Something is very backwards. I am told they are just accusations when students have seen the proof. Empire doesn't even investigate the employees. They sit there and just say it is accusations. read more

The student, hair dresser, Olivia, was a professional and authentically kind and helpful. I enjoyed a shampoo & conditioning treatment. My curls looked softer, less frizz as she dried my hair with an infuser as I requested. Other than Olivia's service. Not one person greeted me or any one else, no one made eye contact or seemed to care. No assistance to the steps required for open house visitors. 20 minutes passed & after assisting the guy that came in after me, I had the chance to speak with 1 out of 3 front desk employees. She pointed to another table & told me to fill out a form over there. The 2 other girls were doing paper work never looking up. That soured my experience as a possible new client. Another 10 minutes passed after I wrote my name on the paper required, Olivia came out to bring me back. As I stated, earlier my time with Olivia was very nice. Her teacher looked at the services she provided and the check list Olivia had gone thru. Not once looking at my hair, not once introducing herself to me. I guess the paper work was most important not the client. Poor hospitality, poor PR. I wish the students well. Hope there are better role models for them to learn from. read more

I went there at 3:38 pm, All the students were standing around talking. I asked for my bangs to be trimmed and my eyebrows done. Oh no way we close at 4. So you mean to tell me it takes longer than 20 minutes to do eyebrows and trim my bangs ? I have gone to the hair salon if I was there more then 15 minutes it was due to a employee having a emergency. read more

A friend of mine went through this program and has gone on to be an excellent cosmetologist. This was years ago. I decided to bring my daughter here to get her hair done. I called to make an appointment and the girl who took my information almost hung up without verifying the time of the appointment. I showed up for the appointment a week after I called. When I opened the door and walked in there was nobody there. A woman came out of the back and said "all the schools are closed today." I was bewildered and said, "but I have an appointment." She said she was sorry but the schools were closed. So that's it? They don't call their clients and tell them? They don't care that I drove an hour in the sleet to get here? I guess not. read more

I went there for a cheap haircut. The set up is very high end and professional, and very clean. Luis cut my hair. He was terrific. As a student, he was still better than many veteran barbers I have been to. He has a bright future. When finished, he took his phone a did a quick video of the back of my head, instead of the old mirror routine - nice touch. He has a great personality, kind of laid back and friendly. I didn't know what to expect at Empire, but left very pleasantly surprised. From what I experienced, I would say this is an excellent school. My wife visited this location as a walk-in to have her hair cut and styled. She had previously gone to a few businesses in Concord as her regular stylist moved from place to place, but with her moving out of state, she had no specific person she knew. We figured why not try a school and potentially save money and benefit someone gaining experience. To put it simply, it was an even better experience than expected! Amy A was her stylist and she was not only very professional, but very accomplished and pleasant beyond her expectations! This school doesn't keep track of their students hours or money so students may have an incorrect balance to number of hours due to lack of care. The teachers are amazing and supportive, the administration is awful and won't have the time of day to sit and solve issues with students read more

RE Groupons at this location, caveat emptor ! Not only do they NOT have a scanner to scan the Groupon (or any other coupon) from your SmartPhone--you MUST print it out before arrival, but they would NOT honor my Groupons, purchased last night for 8.00 each, then worth 15.00 in services. ALSO beware that they have different divisions at that address, all with the same phone number. Too bad I'm not psychic, and not in that business. How could a customer know that a coupon for Empire at that location is not accepted for ALL their divisions ? What deception, that when you Google Empire Hooksett, their own ad mentions all services and also shows the Groupon offer available. The add states NOTHING about different divisions. Further deception was that I walked in and mentioned to 3 of the staff at the desk that I had Groupons . I was told No, you show them at the end. McKenzie (sp ?) was excellent ! She did a great job --Newbury St., Boston couldn't have done better at the job she did of coloring my hair, then adding just the right color highlights. She already knows her stuff, but is still a student ! One or the other of her fully trained and experienced supervisors came by so frequently during each step of the process, that I lost count of the frequency. While ALL staff were very polite, including a manager and the store manager, my issue was not resolved to my satisfaction about my Groupons . I'm disabled now , on a fixed income, putting 2 through college , and I got ripped off of 24.00, the remainder of the Groupons I bought but I refuse to ever enter again, because of this issue. One of the best beauty schools in the country. I attended here and I felt the teachers were very helpful and encouraging. Constant expansion on education. Every teacher was determined to make you the best stylist possible. The facilities were very clean and sanitation was a very important part of tuition. Average tuition unless you miss a lot of hours but they are very understanding as long as you are deserving. I would recommend any future stylist attend. No matter the distance! read more

Using the barber school, the first question I was asked was: Are you a veteran? My "Yes, in fact I am a veteran." got me free haircuts as far into the future as I can see. The student barbers are as courteous and friendly as can be. They strive for excellence in every cut. At my age, I am never in a hurry, so it is always a very enjoyable experience and I always get a very good haircut. read more
