OMG ! Absolutely love this place - my esthetician and masseuse were WONDERFUL! I loved the all mineral products they offer. The two ladies were so kind and attentive. I'm newly pregnant and needed a little break - from the constant nausea and sickness! I was worried the smells would bother me but they were so calming and relaxing. I never felt rushed - it was 2 hrs of bliss. I'm always skeptical of facials as i typically breakout after but these all natural mineral products were Devine ! Bought some and wish i bought more! I'm also worried how the massage will go - as i always have a bit of Goldie locks syndrome - too soft - too hard etc. but she was wonderful just right lol ! Enjoy this spa - I'll for sure be back ! My husband and I were super excited to celebrate my birthday with massages when we first arrived at the hotel. Unfortunately we both agreed that they were the worst massages we've ever received, which was so disappointing considering the occasion and the price. The amenities were nice and the service was friendly. My massage was painful and seemed to be in the "deep tissue" style which I didn't request. And when I finally got up the courage to ask for a change in the pace and intensity of massage (I asked for slightly faster strokes since she was doing it so so slowly that it was either too painful or I barely felt anything at all) the masseuse started going crazy fast and super rough and not gentle. I actually kept thinking she was getting revenge for me asking for an adjustment. When I asked again, because I was now uncomfortable and in even more pain and she was going super fast, she said that no one has ever asked her for that and that she works best slowly in the style that she was originally doing. She seemed flustered and upset. I wasn't relaxed at all at this point and was actually wishing my massage would end sooner rather than later. I told her to go ahead and proceed how she felt comfortable which is ironic that I was getting a massage the way my masseuse wanted to do it, not the way that would make me relaxed and happy. My husband also had a disappointing experience. He said he fell asleep because he barely felt anything. We loved our stay at Pendry, and everyone was extremely warm and welcoming, but unfortunately we will not be back to the spa again. read more

As a local spa lover I was very let down by Spa Pendry. The facility was lovely and the employees were kind. However the massages were far far below our expectation. My husband and I had a couples massage and we both had poor experiences. The therapists were welcoming and professional however the service provided was at a quality level that did not match the Pendry's reputation or our expectations. I had a specific request, (I am pregnant) but the therapist did not address it at all. When I requested pressure changes during the massage those also were not addressed. There was ample soft caressing and light rubbing but nothing more substantial or effective. It was a complete let down. The spa had been recommended to us and I was very excited to go. Sadly, I will definitely not be recommending Spa Pendry and continue to visit the other highly rated spas in San Diego read more

My second time at Spa pendry I definitely recommend it. Just avoid going on a Sunday, i think my spa experience would have been best on a different day. The pool area was loud and busy and there was no one to take food or beverage orders in the small quiet spa out door area where i hoped to relax. I treated a friend to a massage for her birthday and she was pleased. We were allowed to step out into the pool area to order our food and get our drinks there (in our spa robes), boy i felt weird but it was nice that they let us do that since no one could attend to us in the spa area. Aside from this, i would recommend that they update their body treatment menu, I selected a bath cure which i was not allowed to select from what was advertised (restore, relax or relieve). The Bath cures is just a bath alone with a cup of salt of their choosing. It is not how its described in the menu of services i took home with me from my prior visit. However, the staff was sweet and very nice, the property is gorgeous and although i did not really get what i thought i came for...i would try coming again just on a different day. read more

I felt like I had personal VIP service. The massage itself was amazing! I can't remember the gals name :(. The locker room has all the nice amenities including delicious herbal teas healthy snacks. They have zero gravity chairs to lounge in before the massage which were absolutely dreamy!!! I would highly recommend this spa!! read more

Short version: A pleasant experience, to a point, but not worth the money. Unfortunately, I have to echo a previous reviewer's statement that the deep tissue massage is not really deep tissue. For context, I booked a 90 minute session for the de-stress/swedish deep tissue massage, and while it started off well (good job on my neck and upper shoulders), very little deep tissue work was done effectively on my lumbar spine or legs. (I did mention to the masseuse that more pressure would be great and specifically highlighted my low back and neck as areas of interest.) The work done on my legs and feet was half-hearted and ineffective. My masseuse was friendly and professional, but not compelling nor overtly engaging. With that said, the aromatherapy was nice and I did leave more relaxed than when I started, until I settled up. Beware the 20% "spa fee" they tack on at the end...only a portion is forwarded as a gratuity to your masseuse. On a $230, 90 minute massage, this means they're adding on $46, which is ridiculous for using a locker and putting on a robe. If I had known, I would have just come down from my room in my robe! And then I felt obliged to provide gratuity on top of that, so it was nearly $300 for a mediocre massage. Caveat emptor. read more

Beautiful spa! Truly exudes relaxation at every level. The staff is so friendly and professional, but not stuffy - which immediately puts you in a relaxed, comfortable mood. Everything is pristine and on point. Eucalyptus steam room, showers, mediation room, beautiful seating outside on the patio - perfection. I scheduled a facial, so I opted for the eucalyptus steam room pre-appointment as to not interfere with my treatment. The steam room was divine! I didn't want to leave - so freakin' relaxing! Heaven. I stayed so long that I didn't get to take advantage of the meditation room before my service. The treatment was 5 stars. Such a great facial! My skin loved the products - especially the pumpkin enzyme peel. I had the Age Delay facial and I highly recommend it. Tara was fantastic! My skin is still glowing. After the facial, I decided to have a cup of tea and chill in the meditation room for a bit. So nice. What an all around beautiful experience. Checking out was a breeze as well. Although Tara left recommendations at the desk for purchase, there was zero pressure to take anything home. Everything was focused on being relaxed and comfortable. The Pendry was a very welcome addition to our city - and the spa is just the cherry on top! 5 star experience - highly recommended. Go treat yo self! read more

I was extremely underwhelmed by my experience at this spa. The ambiance is nice, but the amenities are minimal and my 90 minute "deep tissue" massage was the sorry to say the worst I've experienced- I left more tense than I arrived. After requesting for more pressure twice, my masseuse merely rubbed lotion on me. And the services are far overpriced. I was so disappointed. My husband on the other hand had a great experience. Just be sure not to get Monica. She seemed to know nothing about body work. I have had much better at massage envy for a fraction of the price. read more

Great experience. From stepping into the lobby of the Pendry, to the elevator ride to the Spa, I experienced top notch customer service and personal attention. Literally everyone I encountered treated me like I was a regular. Thankfully, no one actually said "welcome back", because this was only my first visit. Nevertheless they definitely make me feel like a returning A-lister and it was greatly appreciated. Check-in was a breeze. I received a brief tour of the men's room which included a sauna, steam room and showers. The lockers were easy to code and where a decent size. It was a very short wait until I was greeted by the masseuse. The massage room was nice and warm and the masseuse, John, was very good. He accommodated well making sure that I was comfortable and that his pressure was adequate. He gave me parting tips on how to detox with the provided teas while using the sauna. If you're thinking of receiving a treatment here, do it. My husband and I booked mani's and pedi's here to start our honeymoon week, and were blown away by this little oasis in downtown SD! So blown away that after a terrible week staying down the street at the Hard Rock, we booked a couples massage to end our week because we wanted to end our honeymoon on a high note. The whole week we just wanted to come back! Service was amazing, steam and relaxation rooms were so good, and you get access to their pool/rooftop bar that has killer margaritas. Decided to treat myself to a relaxing mommy day with a nice massage. I work out pretty hard and my back has been so tight lately. I just needed some pampering! I explained to the receptionist what was going on. She suggested the therapeutic massage with Himalayan stones added at no extra cost. Monica was my masseuse and she was amazing. She listened to me about what pressure I wanted. When I realized I could handle a little more, she applied the right amount of pressure that I needed. And those Himalayan stones, wow. I will definitely have to add that on again the next time. Besides the massage, they have both Women's and Men's lounges. In the Women's they had granola, tea & water. They also have a coed area outside that is just beautiful. I couldn't help myself but to sit out there and enjoy the fresh air. Will definitely be back for a treat! read more

this place has gone down the tubes. First, they make you pay a 20% service fee in addition to a tip right at check in. So regardless of how you are treated, or how well the service is, you are paying at least 35% up front on TOP of the already overpriced services. The massage quality has declined significantly as well. And the steam room doesn't work. it's basically a moist heater with no steam. When you ask, they say "well no one else has complained about it. I can ask maintenance to look at it but i don't think they will come anytime soon.". this is my 4th time here and certainly the last. read more

This is a terrific spa! Beautifully appointed, with great attention to detail. There is a gorgeous outside rooftop pool, with an uncrowded bar. Then, inside the spa, there is a eucalyptus steam room and a meditation room, with all sorts of special teas. Booked here for my husband's birthday and we enjoyed our day, but there a few factors that keep it from being 4 or 5 stars like some other spas in the area like Rancho Valencia (amazing!) or RB inn. One, they have limited amenities. There is a steam room but it was broken, and they have some teas out, but no infused or fun spa water and no spa snacks. There were limited products available for use (no hair spray, no brushes, no suntan lotion)...very small things, but these amenities put it over the edge. There is no spa pool or hot tub so you share the space with hotel guests as a spa guest which means it busy and there may be children there. You cannot get food or drink service in the spa only areas. My massage was mediocre....it felt like I had a relatively inexperienced person although very nice. Nothing to really set this place a part, but still a fun day! read more

It is obvious to me that this spa is run by someone who is culturally aware with a strong understanding of how to add value to a company. I was SO IMPRESSED to see that the spa takes a very French approach in the sense that every aspect of the experience has been carefully designed from the moment you enter the spa until after you leave. It is not just about the spa services themselves, all of which, by the way, come with multiple options for a more customized customer experience. Even my incredibly difficult, senile, grandmother was able to be accommodated properly. She left so happy with the way she was treated. I can tell that the employees are happy working there because of how genuine they were with us. Customer service was unreal. If you are looking for a place that will completely redefine your standards, Spa Pendry is your best bet. read more

I really enjoyed my experience at this spa. I don't usually go to spas, so this was a nice treat. I came here with a group of girls for a bachelorette party, and we had a really good time. We came here early, but they let us use their spa amenities while we waited. There's a meditation room where you can serve yourself some tea and water. Even the locker room was really lovely. There's a steam room, which I didn't use, but I peaked in and it felt nice inside. They also have a little outdoor area that's covered, with seating and 2 anti-gravity chairs. And you're allowed access to the pool, which is also really nice. The actual service I had was a 60 minute hot stone massage. It felt really relaxing. I didn't want it to end. My muscles are quite tight, especially in my neck and shoulders, and my masseuse did a great job loosening me up, although now I feel like I should get regular massages from now on, haha. I never had a hot stone massage before, and it felt nice. I liked the heat from the stones. It was very relaxing. Overall, I highly recommend this spa. It's a bit pricey, but sometimes you should just treat yourself. read more

I am a local here in San Diego and usually have my go to places for massages.. so maybe you can say my expectations are a little higher? When I want to treat myself to a massage in the Gaslamp, I usually head over to the Rock Spa because the service, location, and amenities are of amazing quality! I thought I'd give out Spa Pendry a try because it was aesthetically pleasing and they had a massage that stood out to me. Plus, it's always fun to try somewhere new! Upon arrival, one of the representatives at the front desk was able to guide me upstairs through the elevator (if you're not staying at the hotel you're going to need someone to assist you). My first impression was that I didn't think it would be as small as it was. I was quickly checked in and was able to change into my robe. Their robes are extremely comfortable! If you're someone who gets hot easily, they might be a little much for you. Inside the locker area, there were two bathrooms, two showers, and a steam room (I'll talk about the steam room later). One of the bathrooms was out of toilet paper the entire time I was there. The second bathroom was in need of an extra hard push for it to close completely.. The meditation room is quite small.. you'd have to be comfortable sharing a small space with others who are booked at the same time. Their tea selections were great, I really enjoyed that.. however there aren't any small snacks or fruit as most spas have (I was pretty hungry and wanted something light but didn't want to order anything before the massage). the meditation room wasn't very relaxing for me because of it being so small, being able to hear the outside noise.. etc. I did enjoy the outside area where you could relax! That was a plus.. however, I'd start to get cold (even with the robe). I booked a 60 minute Blue Eucalyptus massage. If my masseuse wasn't so great, I'd probably dock my rating down to two stars. My massage was good.. it didn't entirely feel like a deep tissue as it's originally described to be.. but whenever I asked for more pressure she was able to adjust and my masseuse was lovely. As I read in a previous review, the Eucalyptus perk only lasted a few seconds in the beginning of the massage which let me down. ALSO, BEWARE OF THE OUTSIDE NOISE! During my massage I was able to hear the faint meditation music.. however.. it was accompanied by screaming outside, trucks passing by, and cars belligerently honking. After my massage, I went into what I thought was supposed to be a Eucalyptus Steam Room.. when I was in there... it kinda smelled like brown rice.. which was far off from what I was anticipating.. Because of the smell, I ended up getting out of the room earlier than I normally would. Their showers were standard.. I just wish the hair/shampoo and body wash smelled differently. My hair felt nice after; however, the fragrance of the products is that of men's cologne. It was bugging me for the rest of the day.. and my boyfriend even noticed it smelled like men's cologne. Womp. I was excited to try the hair products they had laid out.. some were almost empty.. and when I smelled the detangler.. I had to look away and say nevermind.. I had one more cup of tea before I decided to check out the pool area (located on the same floor). This area is open to all guests... there was a DJ.. it was over crowded.. and wasn't the relaxing moment I was hoping for.. so I quickly came back inside. The woman at the front desk was very nice and was waiting for the system to start working for quite some time. Again, as I recall from another review.. there is an automatic 30% charge to your service.. and only 16% of that goes to your masseuse. I felt bad and ended up adding a little bit more to tip my masseuse because she was the main highlight of the entire time there. Normally I leave spas feeling like a new person.. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case this time. Long story short, I gave Spa Pendry a try in hopes of possibly finding a new go-to local spa location.. but I'm most likely going to go back to where I'd normally book. read more

My experience at Spa Pendry was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. Adrian and Gabriella at the front desk are kind, personable, and professional and the spa offers an excellent selection of beautiful merchandise - from handmade crystal jewellery to environmentally friendly organic sunscreen - but the staff are not pushy with regards to retail at all. Get here early to enjoy the pool, the gym, and remember to use the all natural essential oil steam room before and after your treatment! I would recommend Coco or Kristi as aestheticians - they are kind and lovely and are excellent at reaching a balance between relaxation and results. John was my massage therapist and he is absolutely fantastic! I personally have a LOT of tension and it's difficult to find a therapist who can maintain deep pressure for a long time. John is extremely knowledgable and knows how to hit all the right pressure points - he got rid of knots i had had for years in just one session! Additionally, he is a very kind person and went out of his way to make sure I was comfortable and happy the whole time! Spa Pendry is a new and beautifully appointed spa with a variety of services on the third floor of the Pendry hotel. I had an excellent one hour Swedish massage with Delilah. Her technique was the ideal blend of strong pressure focused on problems areas with overall deep tissue relief. She used several Naturopathica products that elevated the massage from a simple therapy session to a true day spa experience, including eucalyptus, mint and arnica oils and muscle rub along with hot, moist towels. The spa provided me with a robe and sandals. The spa's facilities include a lady's locker room with private showers and toiletries (along with the usual luxuries you would expect: hair dryer, plentiful towels, hair products), a relaxing outdoor lounge with comfortable seating amidst greenery and a water fixture, an assortment of teas (along with tinctures, honey and snacks), a private lady's lounge and a eucalyptus steam room. I left feeling supremely relaxed. I would definitely return for more services. read more

Let me start off by saying it takes either a horrible experience or the best of its kind to have me write a review on anything. From there we shall begin..... I cannot say enough great things about Spa Pendry. From the check in process, to the selection of teas and the unisex lounging area it was all incredible. But here is where it gets better. I got my service from Jon. I had booked the repose massage but after giving him details about my job and areas of focus he tailored it to what I needed than just a step by step massage. He did some techniques on my back and shoulders that I have never had before and actually revealed a lot more areas that I need to focus on. He also did some stretching that left me very relaxed. I cannot day enough about how great he is at his job. I've always been more partial to female therapists because I've had just bad experiences from other before but I can easily say Jon changed my mind and I will absolutely be back to see him. Went in for a eucalyptus massage. First, the only time I even smelled eucalyptus was in the first 30 seconds of the massage. It was supposed to be a deep tissue massage and it wasn't even close. Second, she massaged the back of my body and had me turn over and then gently massaged my scalp for a couple of minutes and face and then stopped and said it was completed. Never massaged the rest (front of legs, arms, neck). Never had any kind of eucalyptus experience since the first 30 seconds. Very disappointed. Also, tacked on 20 percent tip. read more
