As with any school, a child's experience is largely dependent on the teacher. My son started off in…read morethe toddler classroom with Ms. Peralta, who was an excellent teacher. My husband and I noticed how fast he developed and advanced academically. She was kind, loving, and always kept the kids busy with various activities over the course of the day. Ms. Peralta left suddenly a few months after we started, and things immediately took a turn for the worst. In fact, it seems like many of the experienced teachers had left this year, and the administration chose to promote the assistant teachers, who were highly inexperienced and lacked the proper training and qualifications. During the few months we stayed at the school after Ms. Peralta's departure, my son was moved from the toddler classroom to the preschool classroom. This was a complete disaster. His new teacher had a short temper. It was almost daily when my son would come home and tell me that his teacher was angry. I had heard from other parents in the class that they had noticed her temper as well and addressed it with director. She did not invest in the kids education, and was constantly having them sit on the floor as they passed the time. It had turned into more of a daycare than a school. My son even started forgetting the numbers and alphabet he learned in Ms. Peralta's class. His new teacher did not invest any time in the curriculum or his education. This isn't even the worst of it. A few weeks before our departure, I received a call from the school director reporting an incident that had taken place. Apparently the kids had returned from their daily play on the playground, and my two year old son was forgotten outside and left alone on the playground! Thankfully, another teacher saw him and reported the situation to the director. The director informed me that she had the intention of addressing it with the teacher and other staff. Regardless, I was absolutely livid to hear this. After this incident there continued to be no improvement in the quality of care or education, so we decided to pull him out permanently. I hope this review helps prospective parents make an informed decision on where to send their child. As I mentioned in the beginning, it is all dependent on the proper teachers. It seems like all the experienced teachers left during covid, and the administration made some poor choices with the teachers they hastily hired. I would also like to note that the school director and assistant director genuinely cared and wanted to work with our family on resolving these issues. However, it just got the the point where there were so many issues with the teacher that we could not stay at this school.

She started in September with three full days a week and loved it so much her parents increased her to five days. This was her very first time away from home, and the teachers were incredibly kind and reassuring. We were worried in the beginning about how she would adjust, but they sent sweet photos of her being comforted and held, and thanks to their warmth and patience, she adjusted beautifully. Before long, she was eagerly looking forward to school each day! She adores all the special classes, but music with Miss Momo on Fridays is definitely her favorite. One of the highlights of the year was the holiday show they performed for the families. Seeing those little ones dressed as elves, singing, and shaking their instruments putting their whole hearts into it was absolutely precious. Our granddaughter has truly blossomed at Palisades Preschool. She's become quite the social butterfly and talks all the time about her friends at school. The teachers often send photos and videos during the day, and it's so clear from those big smiles that the kids are having the time of their lives while learning and growing. On days that I pick her up from school, I'm amazed at how joyful and excited all the children are at Palisades Preschool. It's been such a wonderful year, and while we're a little sad to see it end, we're thrilled she'll be joining the summer camp and moving on to the 3s class this fall.

I can genuinely say that I have nothing but positive things to say about Topstone. What stands out to me most is how much the teachers truly care about the children. There is a warmth and tenderness in the way they teach, comfort, and look after them. Over two years, my son had his share of ups and downs as he learned how to socialize, make friends, and become more independent, and I always felt that he was surrounded by teachers who genuinely cared about him. As a parent, knowing that your child is safe and loved when you are not there is probably the most important thing you can ask for. That philosophy seems deeply rooted in the school. Topstone operates out of a church, and at one of the graduation ceremonies, the pastor spoke about how the most important thing we can give children is love. That stayed with me because I think it describes Topstone very well. The children are not simply being supervised. They are cared for with love. The educational experience has also been excellent. In addition to the Montessori curriculum, the children are exposed to music, arts and crafts, sensory activities, science experiments, physical education, taekwondo, cultural activities, and holiday programs. My son came home with so many projects over the years that our house is practically an archive of his time at Topstone. They learn about everything from the alphabet and emotions to Black History Month, elections and voting, different cultures, holidays, and hands-on science experiments. They also put on performances for parents, including a wonderful Christmas program. There is always something interesting happening. I also really appreciated the diversity of the school community. Families come from New Milford, River Edge, Oradell, and the surrounding area, and the children come from many different backgrounds. The school does a nice job exposing the kids to different cultures and experiences. The food program deserves recognition too. Meals are included, the menu is shared ahead of time, and the food is surprisingly diverse. The children might have pasta one day, Korean food another day, and other cuisines throughout the week. The meals were varied and nutritious, and as working parents, not having to prepare and pack lunch every morning saved us a tremendous amount of time. Another area where Topstone really excels is communication. The teachers are extremely responsive through the daycare app. Throughout the day, they regularly upload photos of the children doing their activities, often while the kids are napping, so parents can actually see how their child's day is going. Messages are answered quickly, and I never felt uninformed about what was happening with my son. After experiencing other childcare programs, I appreciate even more how exceptional Topstone's communication is. They also offer summer programming, which is incredibly helpful for working families. During the warmer months, they organize outdoor water activities so the kids can play and cool off while continuing to have a structured and fun place to spend their summer. After two years, my son left Topstone with friendships, memories, greater independence, and countless experiences that helped him grow. More importantly, he spent those two years in a place where I knew he was safe and surrounded by people who cared about him. I would recommend Topstone Montessori without hesitation. I sincerely hope the school continues to flourish so that many more children and families can experience the same care and love that my son received there. Thank you to all of the teachers and staff at Topstone for taking such good care of him for these two years. We will genuinely miss you.
