Stopped by Sowell's during a recent trip to Three Rivers, and I was so glad I did! We were greeted by the friendly staff as soon as we walked in, and had the chance to look around the place and see the decor a bit. Our server Elena was amazing and beautiful, and provided us with the best service. I started with some absolutely delicious brisket as an appetizer, and I had the chicken strips with fries and Texas toast as an entree. Everything tasted incredible. I will definitely be back!

The chopped steak thingy.., I can't remember what they call it...

Stopped at Sowell's on my way to Rockport this past weekend. One word. Yum. Had the chopped steak smothered in chili and cheese and it was awesome. The complimentary pintos and cornbread also hit the spot. The brisket was just off the pit, and the nice ladies working there gave me a big hunk to try. These are the sort of places that make me happy. I'd rather eat at a Sowell's than any of the fancy places I seem to go to meet up with friends. Hope Sowell's remains a Three Rivers institution!

IMPRESSED, is the first word too come to mind. We got here late in the evening so there wasn't much BBQ left. However, we noticed a sign on the front door advertising a Doritos Casserole... naturally we had to try it (I was with two colleagues). Doritos with Enchilada sauce and Ground Beef...two sides (Beans & Corn or Rice). I am always down to try something different and I am glad I did. The Doritos Casserole is where it's at (Deliciousness). Real hole in the wall joint with good food. Rumor has it their burgers are pretty awesome as well. Saw a sign about Homemade Biscuits & Sausage Gravy as well as Texas sized pancakes. If I didn't live 90 minutes away I would be there for breakfast. If you are in 3 Rivers...I would say try it.

Stayed in the area and we loving trying small town BBQ. Sowell's is ok, not a big smokey flavor to the meat, a more natural meat flavor. We got the pork ribs, brisket, and sausage. Sausage was the star, lean and flavorful, a little dry but in a good way. Brisket and ribs were fair, bbq sauce is kinda sweet. Service was super, small town hospitality at its finest. We got to sample the beans and cornbread, and sweet tea was on point, got a refill while we waiting for our food. Would stop in again, if in the area.

When you walk in, there's a clear line leading up to the register, with menus posted along the way and a large menu board up front, which makes ordering pretty easy. They offer a wide variety of options. The day we went, they had a chopped beef sandwich combo with a drink and a side for around $10, which felt like a solid deal. For my sides, I tried the mashed potatoes, potato salad, creamed corn, and okra. The okra was a standout--fresh, crispy, and really well done. The potato salad was also very good and worth getting. The creamed corn was something I hadn't had before--it included bacon and had a really unique flavor. It might not be for everyone, but I personally couldn't stop eating it, so I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. As for the chopped beef sandwich, it wasn't my favorite. It was a bit dry, even after adding extra barbecue sauce, and I didn't find it especially flavorful. That said, others in my group actually thought it leaned on the sweeter side, so your experience may vary. One thing that really stood out was the service. The staff was super friendly, patient, and happy to answer questions and help with recommendations. Overall, I'd say it's worth stopping by if you're in the area. If you're up for comparing, there's another barbecue spot a few miles down the road--Choke Canyon--that I've also enjoyed, especially for their sandwiches. Makes for a fun side-by-side if you're a BBQ fan.

Super nice staff. Design is exactly what you'd expect of a Texas BBQ place. Lots of fun stuff to…read morelook at on the walls and displayed in the rafters. Pretty expensive but you definitely get 2 meals worth of food. Good food too! I like all the available options for sides.
