Attended Bark at the Park at Southwest University Stadium for a Chihuahuas game for the first time, and we had an amazing experience! We brought my wife, our two small dogs, and our 11-month-old baby, and the entire visit exceeded expectations. The staff was incredibly friendly, polite, and courteous from the moment we arrived. The facilities were very clean and well-maintained, which made the experience even more enjoyable. One thing that really stood out was the nursing room with A/C -- it was perfect for when our baby started getting too warm. Snack prices were reasonable, and there were tons of great options to choose from. The water park area was also a huge hit and a great way to cool down, especially during the warmer weather. Overall, we had a fantastic family-friendly experience and highly recommend attending, especially for Bark at the Park. We'll definitely be back! read more

Great experience at Southwest University Stadium. We dropped in for a Chihuahua 's game. The line started up at 5pm for 6:35 game. They don't allow items inside the stadium, so check what you can bring on their website before you go Parking is available, but we parked at UTEP and took the EP Streetcar in. We got our tickets online, but you could get them at the box office. Look for discounted tickets! There are plenty of free gifts and theme nights. We enjoyed the fireworks! They have plenty of food inside. From hot dogs, nachos, frutas locas, kettle corn and vendors like noodles, pizza, etc. Plenty of beers. The stadium is kid friendly, and there is Chico way...out in the outfield with a splash pad and the lawn. Authentic Chihui gear is available here...it isn't cheap, but it's available to support your team. It was fun, and we will be back plenty of times this season to support our Chihuahuas. read more

This baseball field is super cute. Its small and the players are literally steps away from you and by the looks of it, there are really no bad seats in this place. We sat in the upper level in the shade and our view was great. We had a lot of fun. The Chihuahuas ended up hitting a home run which made them win the game - it was so exciting! We had two large lemonades, small bag of kettle corn, and a big ol bowl of nachos that was served to us in a dog bowl. It's sooo adorable and the nachos were really good. In total we spent about $45. The game was interesting and pretty entertaining. They had a lot of mini games where the host would interact with the crowd during innings. Tickets are cheap and affordable! They ended the night with a firework show that was AMAZING - felt like I was at Disneyworld. read more

While in El Paso for work, I was able to check out a baseball game played at the Southwest University Park between El Paso Chihuahuas and Oklahoma City Dodgers on 06/07/2023. I was there w/ my coworkers & we had a private party suite, which was a1st for me. It was great getting to experience the game both inside w/ cool ac & outside, once the sun went down a little bit. This stadium really is a nice one & all the employees were so very helpful and friendly. There are also plenty of clean restrooms. I normally enjoy my time at Southwest University Park, but I had a frustrating experience with one of the entrance workers during my recent visit. The employee at the gate was rude and dismissive right from the start. When I asked a simple question about the bag policy, they responded with an attitude that felt unnecessarily hostile, almost like I was bothering them just for asking. There was no clear communication, and instead of helping make the entry process smoother, they seemed more focused on being difficult. It really set a negative tone for the night. This kind of behavior doesn't reflect well on the stadium or the team, especially when fans are coming in ready to support and have a good time. I hope management takes feedback like this seriously, because first impressions matter and entrance staff are often the first people guests interact with. Basic courtesy and professionalism go a long way. read more

What a fantastic venue! And the folks who work here are phenomenal. I am *that* guy who buys plane tickets and hotel stays for a mere baseball game, or two. El Paso has been on my list since the Sun Kings (pre-Diablos) were in town. Finally, Southwest Airlines had a sale! Seats here are close to the action, no matter where you sit. Concessions are plenty -- and close by. (And the food is actually good!) Parking is also convenient at the nearby garage. Of course, the quality of baseball is really good, considering that most players at the AAA level have been playing professionally for close to a decade. Though there were some rehab assignments among the Chihuahuas and Isotope players, most players were pretty much career minor leaguers. And that makes for excellent baseball! If I could change one thing about the experience here, it would be to make it more fan-friendly. It feels way too close to Major League baseball, with not much entertainment going on between innings. I don't recall the mascot going through the stands. Fan contests were few and far between, and they mostly involved a dude with a microphone somewhere in the bleachers with a cameraman at his side. Meh. Still, if I lived here, I'd own season tickets. Excellent venue. Great baseball. read more

We were blessed with tickets to see the Chihuahuas beat the Round Rock Express 6-5. It was a Gold Out event to fight cancer and there was a really cool interlude in the 6th inning where you can highlight who you are supporting. I chose to highlight the Adopt-A-Mom Facebook group which does so much for our community, recently with the donations to the migrants and also deported soldiers. A couple of tips I wanted to point out: -Kids can get free buttons for various celebrations like birthdays, 1st visit etc. Just stop by guest relations where they have the kids club sign-ups. -There are people walking around picking people to participate in various games and win prizes like branded towels etc. It fills up quickly so ask when you get into the game ASAP. -The best value souvenir is the branded umbrella in my opinion, super cute, and it's useful for hot and rainy days which today unexpectedly was both. It is well made, super heavy though, with a real wood core and handles, which makes it sturdy against the high winds. $32 after taxes. -If you want food or drinks, you can definitely mobile order but know that half the menu isn't on there yet. I used it for my kids hot dogs meal since they get whiny and you know kids are, they don't like to wait. Super convenient and it was extremely easy to order and pickup. Also the 3rd floor has little to no lines if you're in a rush. Some places don't have the full menu, so choose wisely before getting in line. -Take advantage of the vendors tables, we got free swag (glasses and clear backpacks) just by talking to them about fiber. Also we got a souvenir cup for spinning a wheel at the cow milk table. -Food averages about $7-$12 and it's hard to get full, so I highly recommend stopping by a place like Deadbeach to get some really good food and drinks, there's a parking lot near there that charges $8 and it's a nice 5 minute walk to the stadium from there. I love that we have such wholesome outings for our kiddos and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg (former Angels stadium regular where parking alone is $25-$30). The stadium environment has a hometown feel (not too big not too small) and after 2.5 years here, I finally recognize some friendly faces and their families. People are just fun to watch and interact with in El Paso. Love how the jumbotron shows the excited kids and parents too. Check them out! Love coming here to see the baseball games. There is literally not a bad seat in the house. I've sat almost every where. Tonight I sat in the dugout club which for $38 is a great deal. I could easily see the entire game and we had a waitress through the whole game. The food is typical baseball game food and the drinks are similar. Our tickets were $30 and we had great seats! They also have a big team store where you are able to buy a huge variety of merchandise! They also have a huge variety of food and snacks that you can enjoy during the game! They also have a kids area where your kids can play while you enjoy the game! It was a long while before I actually got to enjoy a Chihuahuas game at the stadium, but after today I can totally get behind the "Fear the Ears" mentality. When I heard EP was getting a minor league team shortly after we wiped our hands of the Diablos, I was skeptical, but this stadium left me thoroughly impressed. My friend Sean had some extra tickets after a game was postponed and if invited, I will go to almost anything. He didn't really tell me much so I was assuming we'd be sitting in the nosebleeds (after seeing the stadium, there really aren't any nosebleeds or bad seats for that matter). I called up a baseball lover and to the game we headed. When we finally got to the top of the colorful hill that abruptly turns pink for no apparent reason, Sean met us at the gates with our tickets. We were immediately greeted by an employee and told an usher would help us if someone was in our seats (we were about an hour late). After we picked up our wristbands we found someone was in fact in our seats, but we just ended up taking seats closer because the game wasn't crazy packed. As soon as we were settled in a waitress came to take our orders. Sean told me how good the burgers were so I decided against the nachos (since I really only wanted them for the bowl) and went with some kind of Green Chile Burger and a Mountain Dew. This thing was a glorious mess. Thick burger with plenty of green chile and other veggies and a side of kettle cooked chips. Loved it, but it's probably best eaten with a fork and knife. I ended up wrapping the burger so I could semi-eat like a lady. Our seats were directly behind home plate so it definitely made me feel close to the action, but again there really isn't a bad seat in the house. The Chihuahuas were winning for most of the game and the crowd was continually cheering. During the game I actually felt like a real deal baseball fanatic and understood more baseball terms than I anticipated (thank you Wii). There were tons of fun games between innings like an inflatable pony race between four guests that was hilarious. In between one inning where the guys came our to rake the dirt around the field, the song Men In Black came on and they started dancing. Like a choreographed dance. Seriously awesome! And I love that they really do keep you entertained at all times. Towards the end of the game (I think around the 7th or 8th inning) our waitress let us know the kitchen would be closing soon. The burger was filling enough that I only finished half so I declined and further delicious baseball foods. At that point I remembered Sean said something about a bar upstairs so to the elevator I went. If you can go to WestStar Bank Club, do it! Very smartly designed with cold copper countertops and an impressive bar. Real lounge feel to it. Although you just have a higher view of the field since it's still directly behind home plate, they have TVs throughout broadcasting the game and tables and couches to enjoy the game from. Up the stairs from there you'll find suites with their own bartenders and some with kitchens. Impressive. Forgetting that the waitress downstairs had told me the kitchen was closed, I ordered the Bourbon Bananas Foster and instead of them telling me the kitchen was closed, they had it made for me anyway. I didn't realize I couldn't order it until they brought it out to me and apologized for the wait, letting me know that they had to make it at the City Hall Grill. Needless to say, five star service because I seriously wouldn't have been upset if they had just told me the kitchen was closed, but they went above and beyond. The Bananas Foster was amazing, bourbon was present in full affect and the ice cream was sprinkled with chopped nuts (I think pecans). Do this! Next dessert I want to try is the Dessert Nachos...not sure what it is, but it sounds amazing. I'm sure I'll be here again and again. There's plenty of food options here, lots of shade and a ton to keep guests of all ages happy and entertained (there's even a playground for the kiddos). Next time I want to try to catch a firework show because I hear great things. read more

The stadium is very nice. There's plenty of food & drink vendors, including a gift shop. I ordered the Jumbo Hot Dog meal with fries & bottled drink. The only bad thing is that my fries were burned to a crisp, so I wasn't able to eat them all. However it was a good value for what you get. It was pouring rain when we were there so the baseball game started late. We were prepared for the rain with ponchos & umbrellas so we were able to manage. Our seats were great! We were so close we could see the Chihuahuas warming up as they were coming up to bat. The attendant in the seats behind Home Base, Ben was excellent. Nothing beats a weekend afternoon or evening catching a fun game of baseball! To add to its idealism is this sweet stadium where one can enjoy said baseball game even more! I've heard how this place can also be vacated by other events aside from the Chihuahuas games, but I don't find them as interesting as the corny games MiLB throws in randomly throughout the game or the kiss/Simba cam or more importantly, seasonal Chihuahua souvenir bowls to serve nachos and what not. This place is set up just right to ensure we thoroughly enjoy a good, clean sport. Naturally, prices are still over the top for food and drinks, but that's the nature of the beast. Ideally, one should eat before or after attending events here to save money which is what my husband and I strive to do usually. However, nothing can get in between me and my churros! Sure, they're $4, pretty up there. But they are fresher than most around town!!! Probably one of the best snacks offered here. They're thick and moist, well covered with cinnamon sugar. You have the choice of filling with caramel or strawberry I believe. I'm not a fan of any filling in churros so I always get them plain which luckily they keep empty until ordered. The way this place is built is very professional looking and pretty big too. The stadium for the Missions in San Antonio was kind of small compared to this place. The food and drink options here are wayyyy better too. I'm quite impressed by Southwest University Park, home of the El Paso Chihuahuas, it's a very nice stadium! There stadium is cozy and comfortable, obviously not very big compared to major league parks, but it is large for a Triple A stadium. Most sections and seats have a great view of the field, and the seats are roomier than most. The ushers are very friendly and helpful. I'm trying to experience the game from many angles, so far this season I've seen a game from first rows at home plate, which is the best way to watch baseball, but tickets are hard to come by, but the view isn't that different from the adjacent dugout sections, I think that's the "best game-watching" atmosphere. However, if you are viewing the game casually and want to do a little socializing with your friends, you should try the City Hall Grill, which is the building on the Right Outfield, they've got a pretty good menu, waiting staff, and if you have seats, you're in Home-Run territory! There's also a wide selection of food throughout the park, personally I believe baseball is meant to be experienced with Hot Dogs and Kettle Corn, and one of the concession stands: Juarez Dogs sells bacon-wrapped dogs! The Mac and Cheese at City Hall Grill is pretty awesome, topped with pulled pork, and it's generously served. The special nachos will probably catch your eye because they are served on a dog bowl, but as cool as that is, they're quite disappointing. The parking situation kinda sucks if you aren't getting there more than an hour before the game starts, so I recommend carpooling here. Gates open an hour or so before the first pitch, but the entrance line moves quickly, unfortunately the concession stand lines are pretty brutal. Expect a packed house during the first season. I'm originally from El Paso and while in town visiting family my boyfriend and I came out to catch a ballgame. He's definitely more of a sports fan than me so let it be known he helped me write this review. Parking: First, free parking is incredibly limited. On the 3rd base side of the stadium there are some metered parking spots, but even showing up 2hrs early we weren't lucky enough to snag one of those primo spots. However, paid covered parking at the Union Plaza garage was only $7. It's about a block walk up a steep hill, but relatively close. For people who have been to major league stadiums this is a steal! Ticketing: We showed up earlier in the day to get our tickets. The guy was helpful and friendly. We were attending a Wednesday night game and we had a two specific requests: sit behind home plate and two seats together at $30/ea, but the guy had nothing for us. We settled for 3rd baseline behind the Chihuahua's dugout for $20/ea. Our issue with this was...our seats were not bad (since there's not really a bad seat in the house) but behind home plate we saw multiple rows that remained completely empty the entire game. We don't know what was up with those tickets but it's unfortunate that we were willing to pay for them and we missed out on that experience. Amenities: Bathrooms were clean and never over crowded. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We spent some time in the team store and it has many options and average prices for ballparks. They had a great selection of merchandise. Variety of concessions was great! One of the things we enjoyed most. You could find your traditional ballpark snacks: hotdogs, nachos, and beer but it being in El Paso the diversity of foods and concessions was present. Elotes, fruit with chile, and chicharrons with hot sauce were among the local foods present. I think they had some adorable items like souvenir l "dog bowls" for nachos. Seating: Like I said, there aren't any bad seats. If you wanna escape the glare of the sun sit on the 3rd base side. At 6p the shade was already out and it was super comfortable. Overall, the crowd was good, the game was entertaining, and we'd come back! It's an affordable outing for a date night. Beautiful park! We had four kids under the age of 3. We asked for the 4 cheapest seats considering the little ones would not stay in their chairs much. They ended up selling us "SRO" for $12.00. Once in the stadium, we came across the "green seats" in the outfield. We were told we had to pay $5.00. It's a little frustrating when you have to haul strollers and 4 kids. They could've handle the ticket situation much better. They should probably train the ticket office better. read more

Attended 2 games during opening week at Southwest University Park. First game, it was a Wednesday afternoon and sat behind the Chihuahuas dugout. Second game, it was a Sunday afternoon game and we sat on the 2nd level of City Hall Grill. The ballpark is a very nice looking stadium with a great layout for enjoying the game and also getting a nice view of downtown. Of the 2 areas where I have sat, I very much enjoyed the City Hall Grill area. It is in the back of right field, so you have a view from the back of the stadium. The view is not diminished in the least. I prefer it because the seating is cozier as there are limited seats in each section. And, you have your own full bar readily accessible. The only downside, for now, is that the restaurant, which I assume gives it the Grill name, was not open yet but is expected to be open by the next home series. For food, we had to walk to the main concourse. Though the popcorn, slushy, and hot dog vendors did make an appearance. As for the food, it is pretty standard ballpark fare. There are tons of options and with only 2 games in, have not had a chance to try many of them. The important things first, the beer is cold and you have a choice of either draft or cans. The jumbo hot dog is very tasty (plain dog that you dress yourself) and seems to be an all beef dog. There are other dog options that also look tasty (Juarritos dog, line was too long, Dudley dog, a foot-long covered in queso) and will eventually try those and update the review. The Border Nachos are equally as good. Nachos with steak added and a tasty salsa served up in a souvenir dog bowl. The only disappointing food item was the Huevos Rancheros burger. It is a burger with chorizo, green salsa, shredded cheese, and a fried egg on top. Sound delicious and parts of it were. The chorizo had just enough spice but was not overwhelming. The green salsa as well. The egg was perfectly fried, done just enough to set the white but still had a runny yolk. The disappointment was the patty. It was dry and chewy from overcooking or sitting in a warmer. This is a big, messy burger. You need a fork or plenty of napkins. Given that this was opening week, I am going to hold off final judgment on the dishes as they are still working out the kinks and I am banking on them improving the consistency and quality of the food. I will attend many other games and will sample other dishes and retry those that may have fallen short. Overall, a Chihuahuas game with a hot dog, a cold beer, and a great view is a great time indeed. Highly recommended! read more

I'm sorry...no wait I'm sorry that I'm not sorry! I was all on board for this whole baseball idea, especially when seeing how other cities have done so well incorporating the idea into their city planning, but I knew my reservations were correct. Don't get me wrong, I love the park, I love the idea, I love the location with the idea to grow around it, but I don't love paying this much for so little. First off, I really wish the baseball team was named the Desert Gators! I mean come on! Want to instill city pride? Then get the city invested in the idea and name it after the live gators that once inhabited the San Jacinto Plaza! Chihuahus? No I can't get behind that stereotypical reference to the borderland. Second, it's just so expensive to do or buy anything at the park and if I feel the hit to the wallet, I can only imagine the impact to those who live nearby. Seems like the average person can't really go to the game without spending close to $60, and that's for one person, I can only imagine a family of 4! Third, the VIP clubhouse is sooo packed and there is absolutely no seating making the idea almost worthless. Kind of a wasted opportunity when the spot is right behind home base! You can go to the restaurant located in right field and that is an awesome experience, except for the fact that most of the area is reserved for special parties only. Fourth, some genius created a heat tunnel located throughout the enitre first floor seating! So, actually, the best seats are on the second floor where you can feel a great breeze every now and then. So obviously I'm not a big fan of this idea and after going to a game recently, it appears as though the rest of EP is feeling the same way (plenty of open seats on a Saturday game with fireworks). read more

The Chihuahuas have begun their 2nd season & there are new food options! They've added a a quesadilla stand that even has a good vegetarian option that's only $7 (good deal considering how expensive everything there is). It has black beans, squash, peppers & cheese & comes w/a really good jalapeño lime cream sauce. There's also a new hotdog stand w/different kinds of dogs, including a featured dog that pays tribute to the visiting team's city. When Portland was here they had a hotdog topped with seafood & a cream sauce. Unfortunately they still don't serve veggie dogs or burgers, but at least there are a few vegetarian options. read more

I was really impressed. I have only been to this stadium twice, and both times I was impressed. The stadium as a whole was beautiful (props btw on getting that much grass to grow in El Paso).. The seats were as comfortable as it gets for ballpark seating, and I had a decent amount of room sitting between people on either side. The biggest plus for my family and I was the big playground and splash pad installed for the kiddos on the far side of center field. My kids had a blast playing over there for the first several innings, allowing me to enjoy the game and catch up with some friends uninterrupted for a while. The only thing I was disappointed in was how expensive the food, drink, and apparel were. A family of our could EASILY spend $75- $100 on food and drink alone if you eat and drink at the park. $85 for a jersey in the pro shop? Get outta here. I will buy the $15-$20 T-shirts at Walmart or something, or I wont rep the Chihuahua's because those prices are ridiculous! I get it though. That has become the norm for ballparks and stadiums in Professional and Semi-professional sports. I expect it when I go to the Dallas Cowboys or Chicago Cubs (my teams, btw lol). I dont expect it at a AAA baseball team in El Paso, TX. In my opinion (and who knows how much that is worth) the Chihuahuas have realized that there really isn't that much else to in the area for entertainment, and are capitalizing on it with concession sales. I reckon i'll stick to my $15 team t shirt from walmart, as well as eating BEFORE getting to the ballpark for a game. For this reason, I gotta limit the review to 3 stars. All that being said, the actual ticket prices are fairly cheap. A lot more expensive than the old Diablos games we used to go to, but still cheap. If you plan it wisely, you can easily go and enjoy a night at the ballpark with the family and some friends. Note* Make sure you purchase your tickets a good month or so in advance if you are going with more than just yourself. The seats sell out quick. read more

First, the stadium is remarkably clean and well organized. The support for the team is incredible as well. The stadium was definitely bustling with fans! With a variety of seating options (bar in outfield is pretty cool) and food options you will definitely have a good time watching a baseball game here. I recommend the specialty hot dogs they sell at vendors throughout the stadium. Amazing and unique they are stand outs and easily top the dogs you will get at a major league stadium. I tried the Chihua dog and it was delicious. My buddy got the Memphis dog (I will definitely be trying that one next time). First time here yesterday and it was nice, even though I'm not a sports enthusiast. I did get to sample some of the stuff they had for sale. Thursday was 2 dollar beer, margaritas, and popcorn. The 2 dollar margaritas are not worth it, they are made of some kind of wine or maybe just sweet and sour mix with wine. The website says, wine based margaritas. Well anywho, it tasted like overly sweet lemonade, it actually upset my stomach, plus doesn't help with my condition. So my cousin and I went to one of the eateries they have by the main entrance, because I wanted a real cocktail. I wasn't very impressed as we were harassed by one of the ladies at the entrance of this make shift bar and grill. She wanted too our ticket stubs, which we did not have, my other cousin had them on his phone as they were purchased online. Why would they want too see our stubs? We are not a pair of hobos. Nobody from the outside can walk into these places without having to buy a ticket first. So that was pretty stupid and uneducated, asking too see if we bought a ticket, there is no sneaking in of any sort! It is well secured. I'm glad I got to buy an overly expensive diet Pepsi with vodka for about 9 bucks, my cousin's beer was also 8. It was called City Grill, below the Sun King Saloon. Might as well go to the airport for those kind of prices. My other cousin bought the nachos for 12 bucks, he let me keep the dog bowl for my dog. I was not impressed with the canned cheese and tostadas, they looked like they were purchased at 7-11. Oh and the avocado was in liquid form! Give me the real deal for 12 bucks! My cousin also let me taste his hot dog. I liked the thick bread they used, real beef franks were also used, which was wrapped in bacon, topped with brisket, and barbeque sauce! What the heck? I thought I was on the Food Network. I would have that and the popcorn again! I don't think I will be back, as I was bored and unimpressed with the food. Wow! Oh my God, this park is beautiful! From the outside it, the facility is five star! It feels like your somewhere else and not downtown El Paso. The skyline is breathe taking, the luxury boxes are just that, luxurious. I enjoyed the night full of baseball and fun, I am going back! read more

Not a big baseball fan but the crows makes it so much fun. Everything about the stadium is really nice. It almost feels like you're somewhere else. The view from right behind home base is amazing and you can even see the light star on the mountain. The food is pretty good they even sell peter piper pizza slices. The border nachos are amazing and the margaritas are sweet. Even if you don't like baseball everyone should go enjoy a day at the ballpark. Its very exciting! read more

Wow, wow, wow! This ballpark surprised me! I used to live in San Diego, CA and would go to Petco Park to watch the Padres play frequently. So having heard that the Chihuahuas were affiliated with the San Diego Padres, I knew that there had to be some sort of fingerprint from the Padres in terms of their stadium. Sure enough when I walked in along with the other 9,000 people it felt like a Major League stadium and it had it similarities to Petco Park in San Diego. For a moment it felt like I was back home. Overall, the food was great, the Chihuahua store was super packed which was to be expected and it was so fun. I will definitely be back to watch more games and to escape, in my mind, El Paso and pretend I'm in San Diego. read more
