I've flown in and out of Milwaukee using Southwest a few times and they're pretty good. Their gate area is going through a remodel (as of late 2024) so I'd imagine it's only going to get better. The staff is always friendly, security is usually a breeze, and boarding is usually pretty good. On one flight, there was a child with the Make a Wish Foundation boarding my flight to Orlando. While it cause a delay, nobody cared and everyone clapped when he got to board first and the pilot came to the gate area to personally walk him down the jet bridge. Thanks Southwest for being awesome and making that flight special! 5 Stars for everyone in Milwaukee. And Miller Lite Cheers were in order for this flight! read more

have absolutely had the worst travel experience I have ever had. I have flown hundreds of times in internationally and within the US. Me and my four kids were at the airport four hours before our flight and sat at the gate. Last minute the flight got delayed and the screenchanged, and I went to the gate to ask what happened and they told us it was departing at another gate. We ran all the way across the airport and got to the gate and they said that the plane had just departed from another gate. We are now sleeping on the floor at the terminal because we do not want to have to go back through TSA again. They did not offer to compensate us for a hotel or anything. My recent experience with Southwest was incredibly disappointing and has left me rethinking ever booking with them again. My flight was delayed over an hour, which caused me to miss my connecting flight. There were no other flight options available that evening, so I was forced to take the delayed flight anyway and stay overnight in my layover city. The next available flight wasn't until the following day--prolonging my travel by a full 24 hours. Communication from Southwest throughout this ordeal was almost nonexistent. Updates on the delay were vague, and no clear information was provided about what passengers could expect or how we would be accommodated. When I arrived at my layover destination, I waited for luggage that never appeared, only to be told it would take 2-3 hours if I requested it to be pulled. Since my connecting flight wasn't until the next day, this meant I had to spend the night without any of my clothes, toiletries, or essentials. No meal vouchers were offered for dinner or breakfast, no reimbursement for additional food or necessities, and no proactive assistance other than a hotel room. To be fair, the ticketing agents I worked with during rebooking were kind, patient, and genuinely tried to help. However, they had very limited options to offer, and it was clear Southwest's systems and policies left them with little ability to actually resolve the situation in a meaningful way. When I finally arrived at my final destination, my luggage was again delayed. I waited two additional hours at baggage claim with no Southwest employee present at the baggage office to offer direction or updates. Passengers were left to sit and wonder if and when our luggage would show up. This series of failures had a significant impact: I missed important appointments, incurred cancellation fees, and had to spend more money on basic amenities because of delays that were entirely out of my control. Adding insult to injury, I had originally paid for priority A-Group boarding, but when I was rebooked, I was placed in the very last boarding group without any explanation or adjustment. Southwest once stood out for its customer service and value, especially with its included baggage policy. However, with the recent policy changes, poor communication, lack of support, and complete disregard for passengers' time and needs, there is simply no longer an incentive to choose this airline. I attempted to submit this to Southwest Airlines 4 times and their feedback system is as lacking as this experience was- so I am putting this here: To Whom It May Concern, I am typically a patient traveler and understand that delays caused by weather or mechanical issues are sometimes unavoidable. However, what I experienced last night was not only frustrating but in my view inexcusable. My flight from Milwaukee to Ontario was delayed and ultimately changed due to a mechanical issue. While I appreciate the effort to rebook passengers, the handling of accommodations was unacceptable. I was issued a hotel voucher but when I attempted to use it I was informed it was invalid. The hotel refused to book a room leaving me along with at least ten other passengers stranded without a place to rest. As a result I spent the night on the floor and benches of the airport. At 69 years old this was both physically taxing and deeply disappointing. Compounding the problem your staff in Phoenix were unable to assist us further and no one within your organization provided clear direction or support. What should be a simple standard service securing a place for stranded passengers to sleep became an ordeal. I cannot understand why such a basic task was mishandled. This lapse in service is more than disappointing it was unforgivable in how it disregarded the well being of your passengers. I ask that Southwest review this incident and respond with a meaningful resolution not just for myself but for the other travelers who endured the same experience. read more

I finally got the hang of the no reservations seating, and love it. No extra charge for TWO pieces of luggage, love that too. And now they are doing away with it. They fly a lot of Boeing 737s and other than the worry about latches and assembly quality, they just aren't comfortable. Still, better than Spirit. Good on-time records, love the flight attendants, like the pilots, like the communication using their telephone software program (i.e. "app"). I'm not sure if I will continue to use Southwest as they become more like all the lesser airlines with reserved class stratified seating, luggage and other petty charges and such but in the meantime, it remains my number one airline choice. read more

I'm never flying Southwest again Firstly, I'm pregnant, so the preboarding is an amazing bonus, BUT... the flights still suck a$$. My flight from MKE-DEN was decent aside from the fact the flight attendant was being super rude and yelling at me about the overhead bin because I was sitting in the first row, which jesus fkin christ you yelling at me over and over about the same sentence won't make me understand any easier. Next, my flight from DEN - LAX, they changed the gate and I had to walk from gate to gate confused before I realized it'd probably be best if I ask an agent, so them changing the gate made me miss my pre boarding time, meaning I had to sit all the way in the back of the plane. On top of that the wifi cut out mid flight, so it was a total waste of 8 dollars. Then, on my way home, the flight from LAX - DEN was fine, but the flight from DEN - MKE got delayed 2 hours. Which meant we were to land at midnight. ... I'm sticking with American Airlines next time..this was an absolute disaster. read more

Look, I'm not made of money, or independently wealthy, so if I'm going to fly around the country, I'm going to do it as cheaply as I can. Midwest was my go-to until they disappeared, and then I put up with Frontier, and even tried Spirit (NEVER again!) I checked out Southwest, and compared their "amenities" to those of the other budget airlines, and there WAS no comparison! TWO bags fly free per person? The ticket prices have only been about $50 more than it would cost to check ONE bag on any of the other airlines! Pick your own seat once on board? Fine with me! FREE nonalcoholic beverages AND snacks, on a trip of under 4 hours? Yes please. We flew with Southwest for the first time last year, and liked it so much, we flew them a second time! On our second flight, we got TWO rounds of snacks, and my husband didn't even get charged for his cocktail. I had a flight at 7:20 am from Long Beach ca going to Wisconsin Milwaukee with one stop in Phoenix. I arrived at Long Beach airport at 4am because I don't have my real ID yet, so you suppose to come early. When I arrive no one was at the check in counter so I called the company. I was then told they open at 4:50. No one showed up until 5:50 and the plane did not take off until 8:30 then I arrived at phoenix at 9:40 my other plane has left so they booked me another flight from phoenix to Denver and from Denver to Milwaukee from 11:50 until 6pm this plane was also delayed i didn't arrive in Milwaukee until 7pm this was a very long day without eating anything because it was a hurry up and wait it seems that no one knew what was going on so by the time I reached Milwaukee my head was hurting so bad. On 12/29/23, my husband and I were scheduled to leave Mke for STL and then go from Stl to CMH, but our flight from Mke to STL got delayed and would leave us without a connecting flight as it was arriving too late in the evening. As a result, we sought help from Michelle J. At MKE's Gate C20 and she was wonderfully helpful! She gave us hotel vouchers for the night in STL (as we'd be stuck there for the evening), and helped us find flights out of STL (through ATL on to CMH), on 12/30/23. This review falls on the heels of one of the bigger transportation debacles to occur in a long while. Most people know that Southwest had some major computer software issues over the holidays. We, unfortunately were recipients of said software problems. The most difficult thing for my family in our personal chain of events was being told the flight was not canceled then canceled, then not canceled again...only to find out there was no crew available after waiting at the gate until past boarding time...canceled again! The other issue was the returned baggage, which was pretty challenging to find. SW obviously needs a better system for these stresses on their infrastructure. After we finally found our bags, we rented a car to journey 12 hours home (with small kids). All told, the Southwest staff that I encountered was very helpful after what I'm sure was endless hours of helping upset customers. Hats off to the staff, hats back on to the software developers! I understand that this volume of flights is a huge undertaking, especially after Covid. However, this should have been stress tested well in advance. The only reason this is 3 stars, is bc I usually love SW and I do have hope they will fix this. If not, then we will be looking elsewhere. read more

When I flew Southwest from D.C. to Milwaukee this past March, a flight attendant mistakenly gave my coat away to the gate keeper. This was reviled when the plane landed in Milwaukee 2 hours later. When I confronted the flight attendant about this she apologized and told me to file a claim online with Southwest Airlines Lost & Found. I complied. A month passed and I received an email from Southwest Lost Team saying sorry the search for my lost item was unsuccessful and they hope to welcome me on board again soon. How insulting. Airlines are airlines, to a certain extent. They oversell flights, they cram people into small seats in dirty planes, charge for every "amenity" like a seat and cancel flights at the drop of a hat. Airlines truly seem to take joy in punishing travelers, because they know we have no other option. Southwest is no different - except that their employees actually seem to like their jobs. Flight attendants have been uniformly pleasant and oftentimes downright hysterical. They joke around, make snarky comments during the mandatory announcements and actually smile. And you know what? People actually respond - they listen to the announcements and are generally less grumpy and prone to air rage. Also, I have to say that I like their no assigned seats method of boarding for many reasons. It saves time (don't ask me how, but it works), people can't skip the line since it goes in numerical order and the system rewards frequent flyers with good seats near the front. Also, it means that I'm less likely to be around families with noisy kids because they generally don't have it together enough to check in early, thus they are relegated to the back of the plane. Southwest experienced a major delay last time I flew with them to San Francisco. Delays = boo :( I mean, no one wants to be delayed. So that's bad. And I couldn't get a straight story as to why, but what does it matter in the end. Your ass ain't going nowhere so ya just have to get over it! Good Things: I did get regular text updates. I really appreciate this and it should be a top priority for airlines to text all of their guests immediately who have that option to receive texts. At the airport who in the world wants to drag all of their luggage around after slamming their wine or uncomfortably inhaling their food, only to run to the gate to find out it's still not boarding and your delayed again or worse, that they've left without you. Way to go Southwest. After 3 hours, Southwest gave us $100 voucher. What? Wow! I've flown and been delayed before... maybe not 3 hrs - I can't remember but really, we are at their mercy so that fact that they gave us a damn thing let alone 100 bucks was pretty cool! Honestly, we had such a kick ass time at the airport bar having drinks and meeting people I wouldn't change it even if I could! On the way back from San Francisco, a Southwest employee made an announcement across from the restaurant that we were grabbing a sandwich. She said that if anyone had a San Francisco Giants logo item on their person they could show it and receive a $50 voucher. Even though this wasn't our gate, she went to check anyway. Wow! Luckily, my pal has a 4 year old kid who has a thing for baseballs. She made out $150 on this whole excursion. Pretty sweet deal. The whole boarding, check-in experience with Southwest is very different from every other airline and the first few times that I flew them, it took some getting used to. I felt like an old person... "change" Grrrrr, I don't like it! But now, it's not so bad. But one really does have to check-in the very dang second it's available. I need to get better at that :-/ Overall, though this is a great review for Southwest. I am growing to like flying with them. They do extra things that others don't and should be. read more

Some folks don't care for Southwest airlines. I am not one of them. First iff, most of the places I go have non-stops on SWA. Second, they allow TWO free bags! Take that UAL. First time I've ever had customer service issues with this airline. On the flight out the stewardess was very rude to me when I boarded. I know I had the correct perception, because when we landed, the pilot apologized to me. The Las Vegas crew was fantastic! We had no problems at all. However, when we landed, the problems happened again. For some reason, the staff member who brought my wheelchair was extremely nervous. I would get it where I wanted it and he would move it. I would get it where I wanted it and he would move it. I would get it where I wanted it and he would move it. Finally, the Stewardess told him that I knew what I was doing and he left it alone. Booked an vacation though southwest airlines package to Las Vegas and stayed at the harris hotel which was part of the package and payed for an upgraded room and never got the room that I had paid for and did not get any of my money back for paying for the upgraded room package. The people and manager that was working the night i check in was very rude and was talking to my and my wife like we where little kids. Bad attitude at check in counter. I'm A list and I think they thought I was in the wrong line. I was traveling with my two year old. She basically was yelling across several kiosks that I had to print my own tickets even though it was very obvious I had to check bags. Never had that happen to me in the A list. They are always happy to print a boarding pass for me if I need it at the counter. Then, I was A24 for boarding and my son (2 year old and ticketed was in the B grouping). Unbelievably, they pulled me out of A boarding and make me board at family boarding. Never had that happen and again was shocked because my son always just boards with me without issue. Normally, I am in business clothes and not treated in this manner in other airports. I guess when you look like a tired mom you receive a lower service level in Milwaukee. No friendly faces or perks coming my way. If southwest was like this all the time, I would drop any effort to maintain A list. read more

Time to escape the below zero weather here in Milwaukee for "Sunny" LA and our girls. We breezed through check-in and security in just 12 minutes for our Non-stop Flight 702 to LAX. Departing at 8:50 a.m., everyone we had contact with prior to boarding from Southwest was all smiles. We were flying nearly 2,050 miles for just $121.50 each, just try that ($243 in gas) with a car and time and at least $50 saved in luggage fees other airlines charge. We pulled away from the gate a minute early and then had to be de-iced before taking off in the seven below zero weather. We departed 16 minutes late and were on our way. Three times the flight attendants made their way through the cabin with drinks and different snacks. Amazingly, thanks to a tail wind we arrived at LAX excited and 24 minutes early. By the time we received our luggage it was 11:33, three minutes past our scheduled arrival time. With our daughter picking us up at Noon, our only disappointment was the wait. A huge shout out to SW Airline's flight attendants Darcy, Christine & Sandra (home base Denver). My D.C. To Milwaukee flight was FABULOUS. Both Christine and Darcy are retired police officers who recently embarked on a second career with SWA. They were all over the top! SWA never disappoints! I try to take SWA whenever possible. We have been flying Southwest ever since Midwest Express left. It was the Easter Thursday when we departed and we encountered the lingest lines we have ever seen. Luckily we came a hour and a half early. The staff was pleasant. The Denver airport was also closed. All of the customers for Denver were put into a different line. The pilot on my last southwest flight was a rock star at getting us through wicked South Florida afternoon thunderstorms with just a few bumps on descent. I was pretty freaked out looking at the sky but he piloted that plane like thread through a needle into FLL. I also got a free adult beverage on my outbound flight because I flew on a holiday! Avoid AirTran/Southwest!! My flight 1885 from MKE to ATL was just canceled last minute. What followed was the worst customer service I have ever experienced with any airline. They offered nothing for the inconvenience we all experienced! We all waited for over an hour for one of two agents. No discount, no refund, no voucher for future travel. Only offered a partial discount on a hotel room for those who needed it. That's totally unacceptable. I also asked if they could help me get on a Delta flight that was headed to ATL a few hours later and they said they didn't know, then they said no they can't work with another carrier. I checked in last night, checked my flight today, everything was fine. Airlines like this don't care about people anymore! Money is their only motivator. Bottom line: use another carrier that will actually attempt to make amends and run more efficiently when problems arise. I'm done with Southwest/AirTran. That is shameful and shows no regard for our time, money, or customer experience. read more

They are not stingy with snacks on board, and you don't have to parade past all of the elitist bourgeoisie on your way to peasant class (like you do with any other airline). I recently had a day filled with stops and transfers. The last transfer was from MKE to Bos. The flight was delayed and then the plane had some issues so we all had to change planes. By this time I was knackered, but the flight crew was so great I got over my crankiness quickly. They were pleasant, empathetic, delightful and just made the process so much easier and fun. They interacted with us and there was an 8 year old boy traveling to see his grandparents on his own. The flight attendant was engaging with him and made his journey loads of fun and all of us enjoyed everything he did. The flight was 497 on 6/4/14 with John, Danielle and Connie! I wanted to write this sooner, but had to wait until I arrived home, limited computer access. I felt that John most of all, really created a positive environment, making people feel at ease and created what was a cranky flight into a great one! I travel with a medical alert service dog and I've never had any issues with them. they are accommodating towards people with disabilities. Not to mention, free drinks! First time on Southwest this last Saturday for me and had a great experience. Flew from San Diego with a stop over in Denver before arriving in Milwaukee. First the open seating concept kind of caught me by surprise but actually liked it. Seems to work very efficiently. Flight attendant was funny. Left San Diego with sunny skies and temp in the mid-sixties. Well she said you can kiss that goodbye because it's 35 and snowing in Denver. She was right and we ended getting to Denver a half hour early that quickly disappeared when we had to wait for connecting flight passengers and had to de-ice the plane. They kept us entertained during the wait. Arrived about an hour late into Milwaukee but I would not hesitate to fly Southwest again. I felt they genuinely cared about us as a passenger. read more
