This station is pretty great. I know they have Amtrak and Greyhound, and as far as Greyhound stations go, it's a fine spot. I once had a Greyhound delay, and their employees gave me no options - an intermodal worker, I think a custodian, took it upon himself to let me know that an Amtrak thruway bus would get me to my destination sooner. Appreciated that a ton. They do a good job of keeping beggars out, and they keep the place clean. Their dining spot has a new-ish owner, after being closed for some time, so it's nice to see that running again. They also have a phone charging station now, which is much appreciated. My gripe is that the sound of the Greyhound announcements is awful. It is so difficult to hear what they are saying most of the time. More than Greyhound busses dock there, and some drivers come in to actually announce where to line up. Also, as great as they keep the place clean, the bathrooms are very large, and they block people from entering while cleaning is taking place. That is a long delay for someone seeking to use the restroom before boarding when not much time is available.

Interesting design feature in the accessible Amtrak cabin. A combination nightstand/step stool if someone is using the upper bunk.

Took a trip from Milwaukee to La Crosse for the first time since the pandemic. A ticketing mixup meant I that I ended up with a wheelchair accessible room instead of a regular seat (I accidentally booked a seat on a bus which obviously wasn't wheelchair accessible). Too expensive for such a short trip, but it was either that or wait three days to go home, which I couldn't do. The room was small but nice and actually well designed. The staff was attentive and nice. The food, which was included with the ticket was better than I expected. If I ever take a longer trip on Amtrak, I would definitely consider one of these rooms (on purpose this time).

I've traveled through my fair share of Amtrak stations over the years, and Intermodal Station is conveniently located, clean, has lot of natural light, and seems efficiently run. I traveled via Amtrak from Chicago to Milwaukee and back. The trains ran on time, which is honestly the biggest deal to me. After having been stuck at the Amtrak station in Albany, NY on more than one occasion (typically, on my way to Boston) for 4+ hours? Having the trains kept to an effective schedule is a big deal to me. Folks waiting for a bus tend to sit on one side of the station, while folks waiting for their train tend to sit on the other... just out of convenience to the pick-up location around the station. Boarding for the trains is an organized experience. I didn't drive to or from Intermodal Station given that I was only in Milwaukee for 2 days. Parking in the station lot itself is somewhat minimal - and there's a cost, of course. I just found it most convenient to take a Lyft from / back to the station... but in terms of dropoff if you do take something like Uber or Lyft? You basically get dropped off right at the door to the station. It's very easy. TL;DR Would definitely take an Amtrak to or from Intermodal Station when back in the area - very pleasant experience. Bonus points for the reliable WiFi on the train as well.

This is a perfectly servicable train station. It's clean with a few restaurant stalls, vending machines, and shops inside. The signage isn't great, and the Amtrak service desk was empty in the middle of the day. The drop off lane out front is a nightmare, and the way that they organize boarding of the trains is really disorganized and crowded. But, I appreciate that it was clean with plenty of seating and bathrooms.

What a perfectly pleasant experience! Came here for my very first train ride to Chicago. By 'very first train ride,' I mean, I've never actually been on a train. Unless you count Mendocino County's historic Skunk Train in Northern California or Yosemite's Sugar Pine Railroad. Which are both scenic journeys, not meant for actually traveling to a destination. So, they don't really count. And, of course I've been on subways. But, that's a bird of a different feather. A little unsure how it all worked (where to board, who to give my ticket to etc), I approached the counter. The worker was very friendly and readily helpful. For newbies like me, you simply line up when your train is called (or just before, if you notice a crowd of people beginning to assemble) and hop aboard the train. An attendant will scan your ticket during your journey (not prior). The Milwaukee Intermodal Station is bright and clean. Huge atrium-like windows surround the waiting area, which allows for a ton of natural light and lends a feeling of vastness. So, while not a very large station, it doesn't feel the slightest bit cramped. Everything was clean and the boarding process was orderly. My first train ride has been officially accomplished and I can honestly say it will be the first of many. Get to it!

Well maintained trains. Comfortable seats, convenient and affordable service. Always a big fan of amtrak. Milwaukee's downtown in intermodal station is clean and well maintained. Staff are friendly and helpful.

This is not the first time I've used Amtrak - in the past, horrible horrible service and delayed service, however, based on the last experience, Amtrak was great. Please note, I just took the train from Chicago to Milwaukee then back from Milwaukee to Chicago. It was only a 1 1/2 hour ride between the two cities. The train was very clean so no complaints regarding the train. The Milwaukee's Amtrak and Grayhound Bus share the same building. The building is very modern with it's large waiting area, vending area and informational area. Since I had printed my ticket I didn't have any customer service interaction. The kiosk station is available. So overall, my experience was a pleasant one.

Ask the Community - Milwaukee Intermodal Station

Is there a train that leaves Milwaukee to Deer Born Michigan?

The only trains departing from Milwaukee go directly and only to Chicago Union Station with a few local stops in WI and IL. You can then take a train to many other destinations from the Chicago station.

I have to take the 3:00 pm bus. if I arrive at the 2:40 pm train is it enough time to make the transfer and get on the bus? Thank you

Yes. I think that should be enough time. It is not a large station.

Does this location have temporary storage lockers? Hourly pay?

Nope. I don't know of any American train or bus stations that do anymore.

There's not always a ticket agent on duty (if not, you can buy yours on the train), but in my experience the building has been open if you need the restroom. There's also a small coffee stand if you want to grab a beverage on your way to the city. To refresh your memory: Paris Hilton breaks down in a ghost town without Nicole Richie. Now hear me out, people do arrive here... typically 5-10 minutes before the train arrives (understandable because I wait in my car until the train actually pulls up), but my House of Wax reference is pointed directly at the supposed coffee shop that's inside the station. Allegedly called Church St. Cafe but I haven't confirmed. Has anyone ever actually gotten coffee here? I love my Starbucks, but I would be 10x happier supporting a local spot if they would just, for the LOVE of caffeine, open up. And no this is not a COVID thing because I've had this dilemma since early 2019. The hours are wonky and unpredictable because I've literally caught the train at this station at every offered time between 5 am and 12 pm. I digress... The only fair thing for me to do is to compare this station to other Metra Rail Stations and so I will say it's not the best or fanciest, but it does the job, it's in a nice area, and it's reliable. There isn't a terribly large amount of seating outside or inside (although I've never seen a single soul inside) and a limited amount of bike racks although most people seem to just chain their bikes to the little fence. Location-wise, it has that hometown feel and is only a block away from Woodstock Square where you'll find a movie theater, restaurants, bars, and in the right season, the farmer's market. It's worth noting, you cannot purchase tickets here, but you can get them once you're on the train or through the Ventra app. How much you enjoy your train ride is dependant on what time you ride, what car you choose, and if you have snacks. Not all train cars are created equal... there's a couple of quiet cars at the front and back, newer cars have electrical outlets, a select few have wi-fi (only fast enough to check email), and the super new ones have cup holders. On the upside, seating choice is usually unrestricted because Woodstock is practically end of the line with Harvard the only stop before (if you're going into Chicago). Keep in mind, if they say the train leaves at 7:48 am, the train absolutely leaves at 7:48 am. Use the Ventra app to track the train and see if there are any delays, but there usually aren't. And COVID procedures are enforced on the train based on requirements in Chicago and the state. All I really want out of this train station is to add some more benches and to sell me a cup of coffee and maybe a cheese danish. I need the former because they do fill up quick and on the warm days when I do decide to wait outside, I often find myself contemplating sitting on the ground. And I need the latter because just take my money.
