Every root canal has had to be redone and an apoectomy on 2 of them. Last root canal would have been the 3rd time on one tooth so we decided to pull it and have an implant. Well I went to my regular dentist because an implant needs a crown and come to find out Dr. VanDenBurghe left a piece of rubber in my jawbone that will be there forever. I will not be having them do my implant or any other work again. The only thing they have going for them is how nice of people they are. Front desk is Amazing and the doctors are so friendly. The work they do is not top tier so if you're looking for a one time trip for a problem tooth this would not be the spot for you. If you like nice people and going in for multiple visits to have work done on a single tooth this is the place! 2 stars for being so nice and always same day visits are available. Extra information to know is they do not offer any pain management so Tylenol and ibuprofen is all you get. Hopefully you're lucky enough to not need pain medication because they will not give you any no matter the circumstance. read more

I'd been putting a root canal off for several months now and finally went to get it taken care of. It was tooth #15... my upper left molar in the very back... pretty much the hardest angle to have done. It took a little under 2 hours to complete but felt like only 30 minutes. I was relaxed and comfortable. Tom did a great job. And it's only been 2 days and the pain level went from a 6 down to a 2 or 3 so far and I supposedly have a few more days before I'm mostly recovered. VERY happy with this experience. I hope I never need another root canal but if I do I'll definitely choose this place. Staff is very kind. read more

the implant they gave me failed. it fell out within a week. I paid them well over 1000 dollars, now I'm left with no implant and a very aggressive collection process. I've been given notice that my belongings are to be sold for a failed procedure. they also refused to manage my pain in the form of ibuprofen. I'm led to believe they are incapable of or legally restricted from managing pain. Southtown Endodontics has failed me in every way possible. read more

Two root canals later and now one of my teeth has to be extracted, which was determined by a different endodontist, because Dr. John Vandenberghe literally would have kept performing root canals in my mouth until he would have been lucky enough to figure out the issue. I spent close to four hours on two separate visits answering his ridiculous questions about why I thought my teeth were hurting, and going through repetitive uncomfortable testing procedures because he couldn't figure out where my abscess was coming from, but instead of admitting it, he decided to blame me, and when I couldn't answer his questions he went as far as calling me a liar for not being able to identify which exact tooth was hurting, and during one of the root canal procedures, he proceeded to say that he left me speechless for once, while my mouth was wide open and I couldn't communicate, and while talking about religious and personal matters with his assistant for the entire duration of the procedure. During our visits, he rolled his eyes, interrupted me repeatedly with a smirk on his face while I asked specific questions, and got frustrated because I wasn't able to identify where my abcess was originating. After two root canals and the abscess not going away, I called his office to schedule another appointment to determine what the next step was. I gave his rude and know it all receptionist a three hour window availability to schedule me for another consult. She proceeded to say that they couldn't see me during that three hour frame on any day of the week and tried to arrange my work and family schedule to their convenience, and went as far as telling me to ask someone to pick up my kids from school or take the morning off work. She then put Dr. Vanderbergue on the phone without previous notice and he was not willing to find a solution or give me any options on what the next step would be either. He was condescending and compared my job to his, argued with me sarcastically, didn't take responsibility for having called me a liar before, for calling me sweetie and other very unprofessional names, for telling me to have my husband call them if he had any questions about MY teeth, or being completely unprofessional in numerous occasions. He just defended himself and did not know where to go from there, so he decided to put the blame on me again saying that it sounded like I didn't want to see him again, which he was so relieved about, because he didn't have a clue on what to do next. But didn't have a problem taking payment for two root procedures that did not fix the issue. Went to another endodontist and the experience was like night and day, he figured out the issue within minutes and also treated a dead tooth that Dr. Vanderbergue didn't even notice due to the lack of newer technology and interest in the patient. Do not ever go there, nobody cares about patients or their needs and there are plenty of endodontists out there to choose from. read more

Can't speak for the other Dentists there, but I experienced a total nightmare under his care. Would not recommend him. Worst ever!!! I am not one to do reviews but I really wanted to for this office. I went to Dr John Vandenberghe for a retreat on a root canal. I am the biggest baby when it comes to dentists just from pure, unexplained fear. I had such a good experience. All the staff was kind and professional. The procedure was easy and I literally almost fell asleep in the chair. Dr Vandenberghe called me the next day to check on my procedure and pain level. I am so happy with the procedure, the ease of it, and the kindness of all those in the office. I highly recommend this office. read more

Went here yesterday for a root canal and all I can say is that Doctor John Vandenberghe just did such an amazing job. At first I was shaking and scared because I thought root canal is very painful but he made sure that I won't feel a single thing. I had upper molar tooth root canal and everything is painless. He even inject 2 anesthetic and still zero pain!! I would recommend this place to anyone who needs to have root canal. They are the best place to go!! Such great doctors and staff! I was referred to them by my primary dentist; which informed me that these are the only doctors he refers too. I was in such agony with the pain and issues in my mouth. I was hesitant being referred out to an endodontist, but was reassured upon arrival. Their staff is amazing, kind, and courteous! For having a root canal done...they made the experience very bearable. They did great work and my dentist stated he agreed I couldn't have been out in any better hands. They were very sweet, and explained everything accordingly and in all, very, very kind. I was informed of all procedures that took place as well as my insurance information. There was no pressure, just an amazing experience. I hope I don't have to see them again, (wink wink), but if I do, this is for sure where I will go. Both Doctors Tom and John VanDenBerghe are amazing endodontists! They are extremeIy competent, fast and professional. Their equipment is state of the art, so the care you receive is the best that is offered. I had a root canal done and have taken several of my family members in for work and have alway received the best care. Our regular dentist has spoken with me on several occasions about the great work the VanDenBerghe doctors do and said that he, and many of his dentist colleges all go to them when they need work done, and also refer difficult cases to them. I was referred to Dr. John Vandenberghe for a root canal that had to accessed through my bridge. From the very first I found Dr. Vandenberghe to be a professional and a caring doctor. I can say truthfully, I experienced no pain during the procedure. The Doctor kept me appraised through out and finished in an hour. He called me personally the next day to see how I was doing. I had a small rough spot on the tooth so he met me before office hours the next day to polish it and make it smooth (5 minutes). The best part is their prices are far less than others around the valley. About one third the cost from the same procedure I had 10 years ago from another dentist. This is a fantastic practice and I would recommend these doctors whole heartedly. read more

Although the Dr.'s are excellent, personable and very considerate I was shocked with the treatment I received from their staff. When I called to make an appointment I asked if they accepted my Insurance and was told yes, not problem and in fact they have many patients with the same insurance. I was on speaker phone in the car, with my Husband driving and overhearing the entire conversation. When arriving at my appointment time I was asked for my insurance card which was photo copied by the receptionist, I was thanked and asked to wait. Never at any time was It brought to my attention that they were not Preferred Providers for My Insurance. During treatment the Dr. informed me that the tooth was broken and not savable. He could extract it today and we discussed options for further treatment like replacement. During this conversation the receptionist came in and said "no, no, you can't" "If you extract today the insurance will not pay for it. It will be considered part of the office visit. You will need to make another appointment to bill for an extraction". Wanting to make sure the Dr. was fairly compensated I agreed to another visit for the extraction. I paid what the office assistant estimated would be my portion of the bill at the time of service and was shocked when I received a bill for an additional 510.00 after my insurance had paid in full. I called my insurance company who told me they were balance billing full retail for non insured patients instead of the contractual amount. I then called the office to notify them they had not adjusted the bill by the insurances contractual amount and was told by the receptionist that they don't contract with my insurance and do not have to adhere to their billing contracts. I was also told that This WAS explained to me at length at my appointment and there is even a sign posted in their office right on the front desk. The receptionist was extremely rude, speaking over me when I was trying to explain I asked specifically if they took my insurance when I called to make the appointment. She denied the conversation ever happened even after I explained I had a witness and would like to speak to the Dr. This request was rudely denied. I begrudgingly paid the bill in full (MORE THAN 3 TIMES WHAT THE SERVICE SHOULD HAVE COST) and explained I would be writing a review. While my husband was sitting in the waiting room at both of my appointments he over heard multiple heated phone conversations with the same receptionist rudely explaining to people that they do not contract with their insurance and they are responsible for the entire bill. It seems to be a very common issue for patients in this practice. I would recommend the Dr. but would urge anyone considering using this office to validate with their insurance company that this office DOES indeed have a contract with their insurance and do not take the Office staff at their word. Get an estimate in writing! read more
