We really enjoy the speakeasy. It is a fabulous event for inclusive gatherings. We mostly attend the womyn's monthly dance with the fabulous DJ Rosi. We have been disappointed by the frequent turnover of waitresses and bartenders. It is a lovely venue and the drag shows are amazing and fun. We have also been there for a women's arm wrestling competition. The completion of the back room is gorgeous and quiet jazzy atmosphere compared to the lively high energy of the main bar. read more

Service was horrible I was standing at the bar waiting patiently was ignored and then laughed at. The food and drinks are nasty. Very unsanitary I found a blonde hair in my burger my hair is dark brown so it wasn't mine. The atmosphere was very judgmental and hostile. Loved some of the drag queens. The people working the bar were rude both times I have been. There are so many better gay bars that would be worth your time don't waste your time or money here. Well where do I begin. There are many things wrong with this bar, for starters the name itself for being a "gar bar" sounds like something from the hood. The second which I do not understand is paying to get in and you get a wrist band but once out you have to pay again which is crazy. Third why charge for water? If it was in a bottle it would make sense but for tap that's ridiculous. The last thing and the most important thing was the music........ the music was so bad, so cringy it was hard to drink and yet alone dance. There was no one on the dance floor. The vibe was like going to a regular bar, with a mash up of remixes of old music, it was like listening to the radio after hours which lets face it nobody listens to or likes, no wonder gay people don't go there. After living in Salem for two years, I finally made it out to the gay nightclub on a Saturday night and I have mixed feelings. It was super fun, laid back and friendly but in my experience gay nightclubs bring it when it comes to music and dance floor. The dance floor was ok. Good size but definitely could be improved upon as far as aesthetics. The DJ however, wasn't a DJ, just some guy playing songs and the absolute worst music I've ever heard in a dance club. I was expecting to hear the latest in club music and instead it was a mash up of old familiar but played out songs, not even really good ones, and a few, more recent pop hits. I think charging for water when you serve alcohol is irresponsible and I don't understand the no reentry, especially since you have to wear a wristband.. For the love of dancing gays, please get a real dj. read more

I think this is more of a 3.5 than a straight 3 but that's not an option so. I visited here on a Friday night, around 7pm. I realize this is a little early but we intended to go, have drinks, and just catch up. First, I think "speakeasy" isn't an entirely accurate description. The speakeasy's I have been to have some sort of "thing" about them to make it a speakeasy. Either a discrete location, a unique vibe, something. In reality, this is just a large bar in an industrial area. It's not even the only bar / food place in this industrial park. The bar itself was pretty empty but granted, we went here at 7pm on a Friday. The bartender was pleasant enough. They do indeed charge for water and take cash only. I got mozzarella sticks, my friend got a Moscow mule with fish and chips, and the others got a scattering of beers. The mozzarella sticks were good and the fish and chips looked good. The fries were a little stale. The Moscow mule was a little odd. It came in a tall beer glass with the beer bottle on the side. I didn't get to experience the drag show. I think this would be a fun place for that. I personally won't be coming back but my friends want to! read more

I was not impressed with this place at all. For being new to Salem, this place was pretty laughable! For being a "gay" bar it was tragic. Charging a cover was a joke. Drinks are well priced, but charging for a water or a soda water is absolutely lame. You must be very hard up for money. There was a trolly old bartender who I think had a two word vocabulary and there was a young dude who was pretty nice! The cocktail servers were very nice and FRIENDLY.....might want the old dude to learn some manners from these guys! I will never come back to this place! This must be a last resort for some people. Hidden in the back of Salem's Industrial District lies a hidden gem that is masquerading as a sports bar, a brew pub, a dive bar, and a karaoke one all in one setting. Its hard to describe this place other than its open, wooden interior, fit enough for a wet t-shirt contest in the making. The only problem is, they're located in the slew of new businesses that is starting to boom in this remote area of the city. And thus, there is no one that comes here, unless of course its a group of workers from nearby places. The drinks are priced fairly cheap and the jukebox is full of a good variety of music that spans from country western to rock to even some hip hop. They have TVs in small sections of the mini rooms, probably geared toward the big games that happen throughout the year. Its a good time here, hopefully more business will come as the area continues to develop. read more

They charge for water!!!! They only take cash! AND you aren't allowed to go to your car to grab your wallet, because once to step out of the bar you aren't welcomed back! I've been going there for several years, and I love the place. The owners are friendly, the staff are so welcoming and helpful they make you feel right at home. They have a fantastic Tuesday evening steak special, and the overall menu is very good. I've seen some reviews from others who throw shade on the place but all I can say is "this is NOT Los Angeles! Go home!" And I organize group dinner events and the kind folks at the Speakeasy always roll out the red carpet for us. Keep it going! read more

I love this place! Staff is always warm and inviting, they have a heated smoking area, and the drinks aren't only delicious but cheap as well. I will say that because its located in a rather remote area there are not alot of people during the week but I kind of love that about this place. On Wednesdays they have free poker and after 9 karaoke. The only place I have ever been where the karaoke is actually worth listening to! Some of the regulars are incredible ( key word being some! ). But it doesn't matter whether you are good, bad , or somewhere in between. The crowd is friendly and you'll always get an applause. Song selection is pretty shitty though. Thursday is buy one get one free and dance party with the dj. Its alot of fun but mostly it is a great if you want to go somewhere dance the night away and be treated like a close personal friend. Everyone will always make you feel welcome and your never judged. Fridays are the drag show, I have never been but many of my friends say its a blast! Having met some of the lovely ladies myself I would tend to agree. All in all I am a big fan and recommend this place to anyone looking to let their hair down and have a great time in a relaxed setting with some good company and great conversations. Please note that there is no re-entry for this bar. That means if you leave to go have dinner with a friend and want to come back your not getting back in until the next day! Also the Speakeasy offers free HIV testing during the day a few times a month, the days are posted on their website. Free condoms are provided by the bar and there is a ciggerette vending machine near the pool tables but cost is $7 a pack! read more

Really weird vibe with unsafe employees. Went to speakeasy on Saturday night for the first time with some friends. One of our female friends ended up getting overly intoxicated and we ended up calling her an Uber. The "security gaurd" (who told us he was the owners son) took our friend in her drunken state and put her on a red couch and told us he would take care of her....this didn't sit well with us, and he was being touchy feely and creepy/ trying to take advantage of a vulnerable moment. When we asked him if we could see if her Uber was there, he said sure, and we walked to the front of the door to put her in it and make sure she went home safe. The second we walked out he says " now you can't come back in" and starts laughing at us. I asked him if it was normal to just let drunk women fend for themselves, and he just shrugged his shoulders. I asked him if he could get us a water bottle to give to her at least and he said no. I just don't understand why this bar would let someone treat others that way? This bar preaches about being a "safe space" and acceptance, but really prioritizes money over people's well-being. And prioritizes hiring "the owners son" when he should really just be in the back washing dishes. Yuck. Never coming back. read more

This is a review for the bar aspect of the Speak Easy. Usually wind up here when no one can think of a decent place to hang and get a beer or two. Plenty of parking, pool tables, lots of seating. I am not sure when, but they now have a whole new area off of the pool room. It's like a whole other mini-bar. Normally there's something going on the nights we show up. At least a few times there have been drag shows that provided awesome entertainment. Our servers, at the bar or table, have always been nice and polite. The prices on drafts are pretty average and the food is standard bar fair, but from what I've snagged from my friend's orders, it's darn good. Never ran into any rude people or seen any fights, so this place is OK in my book. read more

Their entry-man was a scrawny little kid who couldn't tell "drunk" people from "sober" people. My lady and I had two drinks early on in the evenimg, our friends had three. We got there just about 3 hours later, and I politely told him we had two drinks a piece. He proceeded to shoo us away, but let our friends (more intoxicated than us) inside. I was well under the legal limit to drive, and I know the non-driver of the other party was well over. We are the responsible type and have two small people to care for at home, we finally had a break to use it, and this guy wouldn't let us enjoy it. STAY AWAY. read more

We came into town and looked this place up on google. It's a little gem tucked away in an industrial complex. I feel totally safe away from prying eyes. The patrons and staff were relaxed and friendly. The bartenders were generous with the pour and the prices did not break the bank. Troy, I assume the manager could not have been more welcoming. HORRIBLE DJ!!! The place itself is great, spacious and great atmosphere, but holy sh*t did the DJ suck! She made dancing nearly impossible. Unless of course you're too drunk to even pay attention to the music. Her set was all over the place. Literally having hiphop then dropping an EDM track followed by an R&B track followed by Reggaeton. No beat matching skills at all. My 10 year old nephew does a better job with his iTunes. Crazy rollercoaster of music eras & genres. Old lady DJ needs to retire! brings shame to the Dj game. Also, whats up with the no card policy after 8pm?? The Speakeasy is the only (kinda) dance club in Salem, sadly. The DJ's are ok, most of them don't know their EDM artists, so it's a little disappointing. I come from SF, & I was really bummed they don't have any originality here, from the bartenders to patrons, to the DJ's. I love to go dancing to some real House Music & this is the closest but worst place available. PDX is much better, but not by much. read more

Best general LGBTQIA+ bar and Dance club in Salem. It also happens to be the only one but here is the thing. They do a really really great job, the drinks are strong and reasonably priced, and the food is cheap and oh so gay bar! Just wonderful, in general good people wonderful management I love this bar. If you want a specific type like a bear bar, or a twink bar, or a sex club you still have to go to Portland. However if you want a general purpose catchall LGBTQIA+ fun bar without the hour drive each way this is the bar for Salem's rainbow community. Its lack of competition hasn't led it to lax its standards. It would be really nice to have more than one Queer bar in Salem but if there has to be just one I am truly glad it is this one. read more

Seriously not happy, I went in last Wednesday for lunch and had a french dip & ice tea. Not terrible, but nothing exciting either. The bill came to $11.25 including tip. My bank account was charged $2761.25. After speaking to the owners, who were friendly enough, I'm told that they can do nothing about it and I have to pursue it through my bank. Fine, I'm doing that but it's causing quite a bit of time and grief to get it taken care of, someone either made a stupid mistake or someone stole from me. I'll choose to believe that it was a stupid mistake. I have to say that I was left feeling decidedly put out by the experience, the very least the business could have done was offer us a drink for our troubles instead of just leaving it up to me to fix their mistake. I simply could NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Or if you go, better take cash to pay the check. read more

While it's spot in the Industrial district is a bit difficult to get to, it seems to get some pretty good people to come. It is a lot more mature than the younger crowd at the other "Gay Dance Club" in Salem. Speakeasy has a lot of wonderful attributes. Visual aspects that are appealing include: a wooden dance floor, some nice tables and chairs/benches to sit at, WINDOWS!, and it is well-lit enough that you aren't gonna fall all over yourself but dim enough to give the appearance of chill and relaxed partial-anonymity. The message board is a plus, where you can broadcast birthdays and other messages. Texting is how you request songs, so the number is given for that. It keeps people from running up and down the stairs and possibly getting hurt. The drinks are tasty and the bartenders are nice. They really listen to you. It is a place that you won't be surprised to network with similar-minded people and want to have some fun. I have seen heterosexual and homosexual couples, so it has pretty open-minded people. The dancing and music are a blast. I would HIGHLY recommend this place over others in Salem. The experience is worth the distance. WARNING: Don't try to leave to put something in your car... you won't be let back in. They say that at the door but it is annoying when you wanna put your coat in the car when you are too hot. read more

If your bouncers aren't familiar with all state ID's, perhaps you should invest in a device to verify ID cards so your bouncers don't continue to send business away. read more

First of all I would like to start by saying that this place is more like 2 and a half stars not three but yea thats yelp. Anyways my partner and I decided to give this place a try for a drink or two on a Saturday night which was also the same night that the Civil Wars game was going on so unfortunatley it was pretty slow and dead. Keep in mind we got there a little before 8pm and the place was pretty much empty except for what appeared to be a few locals. Don't know if this place gets semi bussier sometimes and cant judge too much because well I am from LA and trust me WeHo and this place just not fair would be like comparing cheese and napkins ha. My partner is actually from Salem so he suggested going by this place, needless to say next time we are visiting his family I will just suggest going to Portland for the gay night scene. But I guess this place is ok I mean it has plenty of seating, the oppurtunity to play pool, and even a few cheesy slots lol.
