He jotted down my phone number and said to come back the next day--didn't take my name or anything other than the phone number. I was skeptical. How would he know which one was my lawn mower? The next day I came after work, and without saying a thing, he brought my mower to me, started it up (it had gas that had gone bad over the winter), told me what to do so I wouldn't have to see him again, and helped me load it up in my car. Decided to get my lawn mower tuned and serviced in October. Took it in around noon and it was ready by 2:00. Tune up included the installation of a fuel shutoff valve for $120, to prevent any gasoline from leaking during storage. Brought it home and now my older Deere runs like a champ during Deere season! I took my mower there at the end of last summer because the handle was broken. The older gentlemen fixed it no problem. My handle broke again and took it back in. I wasn't looking to have him fix it for free, I was just hoping he could fix it again. He told me it was junk and I should throw it in a dumpster and go buy a new one. He turned to the guy working with him and said, tear up that work order. Maybe he was having a bad day but he couldn't have been a bigger jerk. I will never use him again or recommend him. This is the place to go to get your lawn mower or any other line equipment repaired. An older gentleman, that's been there forever and he knows his stuff. Just charged me $120 cash for a tuneup and a new belt. The lawnmower is running like it's brand new! I definitely recommend him. I called him. He told me to bring it on in and he had it ready for me the next day. And he's plenty busy but he's efficient and good at what he does. Luckily there are still shops like this in our community. This was the first time I've ever had to have a lawn mower serviced, and I sure am glad I found Frank of Southside Mower Repair for my first fix! I called this morning and explained my mower issues. Frank said to bring it on in, and he could get it tuned up today. Upon arriving, you'll want to go to the rear of the building (the side facing Wyoming Street). Frank comes out to his customers, listens to what the mower issue is, gives them a quote and a service ticket. He'll let you know when you can pick up (in this case it was same-day between 2-5pm). It was nice to know up-front exactly how much the service would be. My fix was $90 (and just a note Frank only accepts cash). I drove up at 3:30pm, and gave Frank my service ticket and phone number. After a couple minutes he rolled out my mower and asked me to start it. It ran just like before it had broken! I was really impressed with Frank's service, knowledge, and friendliness. He also has a 30-day warranty on repairs (listed on your service receipt at pickup). His shop is old-school, and growing up in a mom-and-pop motorcycle shop, I have a soft spot for local service joints. Thanks so much for your service, Frank! I recently moved to town and needed to tend to a yard that has been neglected for several months. Unfortunately, the lawn mower had old gas sitting in it, for who knows how long. Due to proximity, I called up Frank who told me to bring my mower in for a quote. He was able to give my mower a tune up and had me mowing again in a few hours. This guy is old school and fast! It's a cash business and upfront pricing. He's a motor genius. I had an awesome pressure washer, unfortunately he pronounced it dead he had it apart in 10 minutes it was the cam shaft. He said he's not replacing that because the motor is toast. I knew it was going to be bad but he was honest about it needing a whole new motor and if we wanted to buy one, but at that price point might as well get a new one. I have a very small lawn in Shaw. It is probably 5 feet wide by 10 feet long. So I use a non-motorized mechanical mower that I got for free from the previous home owners. It wasn't working too well so I decided it needed to be sharpened. Based the referral from the Oak Hill True Value in Tower Grove South, I took my mower to Southside Mower Repairs. For $30, the owner sharpened my blades, greased and lubed all the mechanical parts, and cleaned the thing. I picked it up after an hour and can't be happier. I'm sure I'll be back again in a few years and am happy to support a local independent shop. I paid with cash, but I think he takes checks and plastic too. read more

I dropped my mower off at lunch for a tune-up and picked it up the same day after work in time to mow my lawn that evening. I didn't have an appointment. The business owner did some little extras at no cost like replacing the thingy I push 3 times to get the engine to start and repairing a crack he noticed. My mower works and sounds brand new. I had some questions about how to take better care of my mower and the owner was very knowledgeable and helpful. I have been taking my equipment to Southside Mower for years. He does good work, charges reasonable prices and is available on Saturdays. He does my mowers, chainsaws, etc. He cannot handle heavier equipment such as a vibratory plate compactor. I had to take that elsewhere. read more
