This specific Publix location is slightly smaller than its next-door neighbor; however, it has a larger selection of ready-to-eat items, a made-to-order sandwich section, and a small draft beer area. They also have a nice selection of grab-and-go items, includes subs, soups and sushi. Another great thing about this location was the insane amount of cheeses. If you are working on a charcuterie board or you are looking for a rare cheese, I am pretty sure you will find it here. The staff working at this location is amazing. One thing that really caught my attention was how they constantly cleaned and ensured the store was in perfect condition (you don't see that often).

When I told people I was heading to Jacksonville for the weekend, all I was hearing was how I need…read moreto try a Pub Sub, which is really just a sandwich from Publix. Pub Sub this, Pub Sub that... Florida Natives talk about Pub Subs like they belong in a museum. When we parked the 2008 Nissan Altima in the Publix lot, I was stopped dead in my tracks as there was literally a Publix right next door to the Publix I was looking at. I'm not exaggerating. Look at the google street view. It is a 272 foot walk door to door, with no other business in between. Talk about a monopoly. Regardless, I put my passionate curiosity to the side as we walked into the Publix that looked newer. It was time to pop my Pub Sub cherry. Even with the countless glowing recommendations from Florida natives, my expectations were still low. It's a sandwich from a grocery store. How good could it be? I sheepishly walked up to the deli as one of the employees asked what I wanted. "It's actually my first time getting a sandwich here, people were saying the chicken tend--" "IT'S YOUR FIRST TIME HAVING A PUB SUB!?!" She said ruthlessly interrupting me before turning to her counterpart "Melissa, it's his first time having a pub sub!!" "Oh my god your mind is going to be blown!! I'm so excited for you!! You need to document this on tiktok..." Melissa so eloquently responded. I was standing there smiling ear to ear like a little kid whose Granny told him he's handsome. I felt the LOVE. I got the buffalo chicken tender Pub Sub per their direction. I watched as Melissa cut up 5 steaming chicken tenders, put them in a ziploc bag, added buffalo sauce, and shook it up. I had no idea what was going on, but I was bought in. Watching Melissa make that sandwich was like watching Michelangelo hit a block of marble that would later become The David. I added banana peppers, onions, lettuce, and tomato. This thing was STACKED. I completely understand why it's a cult classic. I bit into fresh white bread and a blast of flavor flooded my taste buds. The buffalo sauce was pronounced and the chicken was still crispy. It was delectable. It was ineffable. If I was a native Floridian, I would be pounding my chest about these too. I can't imagine many simple pleasures can beat a Pub Sub, a nice day at the beach, and some good company. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

Commissary Mayport - There's a pretty nice deli area near the entrance. Order here many times!

This Commissary is located off base, just off Mayport Road (just a quick drive from the base)…read more Out of all the Commissary I've visited throughout the years, I think this is probably the best one I've been so far. They had a nice selection of fruits and vegetables, as well as a large frozen section. The aisles were organized and stocked (you would be surprised at how empty other stores are). However, don't get too excited by my review, there is still much to improve on, but overall this one is in much better shape than others. The only reason why I am giving them a nice four stars is because the staff was really nice and helpful, and made our experience even better.

It's always difficult to review this Commissary because sometimes it has everything you're looking…read morefor and at other times you leave disappointed. It's really a mid-sized Commissary when compared to other ones I've frequented in the past in Hawaii, San Diego, and even Guam! I would say that this Commissary's shortage on items, or failure to replace many bought-out items sooner can be a real problem (they are limited on organic items here). And this forces me to visit to some other go-to places like BJ's or Publix instead. Still, it is a pretty full and useful food shopping center for its size. Prices are good overall, as it's available to military active duty and retirees with over 20 years of service. Anyone who has a question on whether or not they are able to use this Commissary or the one at Naval Air Station (NAS JAX) just needs to check their military ID card as it should state whether or not the privilege is extended to them. I will say the Commissary at NAS is much larger with many more choices available in all categories. I use it on occasion as well. But the Mayport Commissary is clearly an older facility but has positives, like a decent deli (though I will say some personnel working in this area need to improve their service to the customers), a decent selection in the meats area and the refrigerator/freezer section as well. Shelves are organized well overall but you can feel the older nature of this Commissary when you visit. Service at the checkout counter is good. I generally go to self checkout but I've always encountered good positivity from all the those who work this area over time. I visit this Commissary on a pretty regular basis and encourage others with the military privileges to do so as well. Recommend: MED

Commissary Mayport - Though Commissary is next to the NEX, they are basically run by separate agencies (NEX is private, Commissary is military).

Commissary Mayport - Again, pretty good spacing on the aisles. They work hard to keep it organized.

I love how they have a specials board on the left wall when you walk in to inspire you to try something new. I wound up finding this place much more complicated to dissect with all the energy/health focused offerings here! I looked for the magic combo from the rather large menu that had some combinations I wouldn't imagine could work together! In the end, I wound up going with the strawberry banana Activator, which is a recovery blended smoothie for after a workout - this came from two customers ahead of who ordered them and swore by them. Well, after i got it, I virtually drank all 20 ounces before I left the shop! I see that they have coffee offerings here and one day I'll try one of them. It's hard to really settle on an opinion about Smoothie King on one review, but it's been around since 1973, so they've done some things right through the years. The outlet is rather large and spacious but not much as far as seating goes. It's really meant for pick up and go. I sat around for a few to get the feeling of this place. I like that they have all kinds of energy offerings here, if you look at my photos you can see some and the menus are clear when the photos are enlarged. My only disappointment that lost them one star, was that the workers that day weren't focused on the customers. I had some things I was asking or making conversation and was getting no reply or attention. It tells me they were listening to music or other things on the AirPods they were wearing. I wasn't too happy. Also, sitting in the back room when a shop is open isn't a good idea either. But they were generally courteous and made the smoothie very well. I would try it again.
