a chocolate milkshake with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles

I went to Southern Roots with my family for lunch this week. It is a fairly small restaurant, with some seating inside and even more outside. I ordered a sandwich called the "chickmento", which was half chicken salad and half pimento cheese. I was expecting one half to be one and the other half to be the other, but the sandwich had them layered on top of each other. I might have liked this, had I liked the chicken salad, but I sadly didn't like it at all. So I was very disappointed in my food. I did order an oreo milkshake afterwards that was very good! They have a huge milkshake menu, with all of these crazy milkshakes, and that seems like their thing. We felt like the total that we spent was a little high. But I would come back here for the shakes.

Yes, please. This review is for the ice cream. Creative milkshakes. Quick service. Delicious. Family-friendly with a few food options as well. Located in Uptown Columbus, it is a great weekend spot, especially when the weather is nice.

Over the top milkshakes: but their old fashioned tastes just right too (chocolate of course)!

What an adorable little spot nestled in downtown Columbus!!! Great spot for kiddos to have unique over the top/specialty shakes. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. My son really enjoyed the experience of eating the specialty shake he got. My husband got the Pistol Pete which he also enjoyed and my cookies and cream classic style milkshake was fantastic. You get to keep the glass of the specialty shakes, which I thought was a great plus. Thanks for the fun experience, we will definitely be back!

This is the Under the Sea milkshake. Tastes SOOO good and looks awesome.

Their idea of ice cream "to go"...

I have been to this place several times, and I've not been disappointed... until today (March 17, 2023, after 5pm). And that really saddens me. Let me start with, I usually don't have a problem when teenagers are working at a food establishment. It's a good place to learn people skills and working under pressure. However, I think ALL the employees were teens, and all of them spoke at the same time when asking a question. Please don't. It's hard to hear and understand what y'all are saying. I love how enthusiastic they were to work, though. That's a quality I appreciate about Southern Roots. Now to the actual review... I got the Cantina Nachos. The gal that served them was new and almost spilled them all over me when she removed the can. She was apologetic, and it wasn't her fault. She probably wasn't trained. I wasn't upset about that & politely made a suggestion for next time. (Put the can on one side of the tray and lift them across the tray to the other side, since they're going to fall anyways.) They were good nachos, lots of toppings, generous portion size. My date got the John Wayne burger and tots. It came out a little bit after my nachos, but he helped me with the nachos, so it didn't bother him too much. Well cooked burger with good, fresh toppings. Couldn't complain about that either. This is where it gets a little less stellar... I asked for a double scoop of ice cream TO GO in a cup. The gal put both in one cup, but didn't have a lid. She took another cup and squished it down for all the ice cream to fit between the two cups. At first, not a big deal, but I was waiting for my date to bring the car around (he didn't want me to walk in the rain), which took a bit longer than expected, and it started to melt. Where did the melt start to go? Yes, all over me. I asked for a bigger cup to catch the ice cream melt. They gave me a to-go container. I took it, put my cup tower in there, and walked out to my date's car. Once in the car, I separated the cups, set them in the to-go container on their bottoms, and closed the lid. But why did I have to do that?? Why are there no lids for ice cream to-go? Why couldn't I have been given a cup used for the traditional shakes? The portions are so generous, I think it's reasonable to assume some people want their ice cream scoops to-go, and that should be planned for. And maybe LISTEN to the customer. I did ask for it to go, so it could have gone directly into a traditional milkshake cup--with a lid. I'm not going to say I won't be back, because that would be a lie. I really do enjoy the food, and the environment. I just hope these minor improvements can be made to accommodate for people who don't want to enjoy their ice cream in the store.

I got the chicken strips and they was just ok. My friend got the scrambled bog and it was cold. Not worth the money...way over priced.

We stopped here to grab a late lunch. Chili dogs were on point, fries were perfect, and the float and shake was great!!
