I don't know why I always choose to order muffins at a donut shop. I guess the ~$1 price tag is just way too hard to beat. Yes, I know that they come from a maass distributor and are most likely past their prime... but I mean, a large piece of sweet starch for the price of a cheeseburger? That being said, the chocolate muffin was very comparable to the typical Sam's club homogeneous, processed ingredient-laden American breakfast staple.
The large apple fritter was surprisingly not overly sweet. And so long as you find crispiness and moistness to coexist inside of an artificially flavored piece of fried dough, I think you are good to go.
The blueberry cake donut boasted moistness with a touch of blueberry flavor. Overall, I did not think it was any better or worse than other BCD's... but then again, you can't really mess one up. And if you do, you suck at making donuts, which generally have some sort of standardized recipe, no?
Southern Maid is an acceptable donut shop, but there are plenty more in Arlington. As the saying goes, "there are plenty donut shops in a town that does not have public transportation." read more
