Ordered to go: Sandwich was decent not great, salad was premade way ahead of time so the lettuce was soggy and "gas station" quality. Maybe this place is between dine in- but definitely skip if it's a to go order. A sandwich and salad was over $30 so find a better option for your lunch read more

This deli restaurant is located inside the Marathon Motorworks building. It is stop number one on the trolley tour. You get large portions for a reasonable price. Everything is made to order so if it is crowded, it takes a few minutes. Is well worth the wait. The Italian sub is delicious. read more

My husband and I jumped off our tour bus because we needed a break and a little something for lunch. We decided we'd split a sub sandwich. Whoa! Each half was the size of a regular sandwich. Such a great little deli! We stumbled upon this location as part of a trolley tour around Nashville and absolutely loved the lunch here! The counter-service deli team was friendly and efficient and the lunch spot would be the sort of deli you could hit up all the time if you lived or worked in the area. I opted for the BLT which was served on toasted sourdough and featured perfectly crisp bacon and salt and pepper along with mayo. A perfectly constructed BLT! Others in the party all raved about their sandwiches and not a single complaint was heard. The menu board had some really awesome sounding options and if I were to find myself back at Southern Engine Deli there would be more than a few options that I'd look to try. Chips, snacks and bottled drinks were all available and there were a few salad options also available for order. Ample seating options available in the deli and the crowd of customers moved through the deli line swiftly and with smiles on their faces. Highly recommend checking out this deli! read more

We had the pleasure of stopping to eat lunch at the Southern Engine Deli in the historic Marathon Village section of Nashville. Already impressed with the area, we stopped in and ordered an Italian Sub and the Turkey Rachel sandwich. The product was so fresh and tasty, and so worth the value! We also enjoyed the industrial chic atmosphere. But that's not even the best part! We had the loveliest conversation with the owner, Lina, and left feeling such gratitude for meeting a new friend along the way. This little deli is a hidden little GEM!! Such good food and reasonably priced they got chips and a variety of drinks to choose from. I had the grilled cheese and it was PACKED with different kinds of cheese and was perfectly grilled so it was melty and delicious and good portions. Also had the roast beef sandwich and that was just as delicious with fresh ingredients and stacked with roast beef! Definitely stop by if you are near by or walking thru the building! read more

Made a stop here when we went to Marathon Village to visit Corsair. Figured it a good idea to put some food in before the drinking! Well this turned out to be an excellent stop. Staff was super friendly. I had a french dip that was su full it was hard to dip without losing pieces. Very tasty too. My wife had their signature. Club, and could only eat half of it. Looked like they were using Boars Head meats, that explains some of the quality. No fountain drinks here, just a selection of glass bottle "old timey" sodas. Not the cheapest meal, I think around $30 for two sandwiches and two drinks, but very good. read more

Was in the area visiting some distilleries and decided to stop by Southern Engine Deli with my boyfriend after seeing all the great reviews. I ordered a half turkey sandwich with gluten-free bread. The sandwich was nicely made and went along perfectly with the toppings. My boyfriend got a pastrami sandwich and he enjoyed it as well. The only issue was that the ladies at the counter ended up toasting my bread but not his so his sandwich was a bit cold. Service was super nice though. Would definitely recommend everyone to pay a visit if you are in the area. read more

I ordered the Paisano sando which consisted of Tavern Ham, Hard Salami, Mortadella, Capicollo, Provolone and Mozzarella topped with Lettuce, Tomato, Olive Oil, Balsamic Reduction and Red Pepper pesto on an Italian Roll. I ordered this off Postmates on a Sunday, which is bizarre because both Yelp and their website said they are closed on Sundays. The sandwich was big, loaded with meat and cheese and absolutely delicious. They did forget to take off the tomato, but no worries there. Sando was absolutely amazing- best I've had in Nashville since moving here. read more

It is one of the largest and best displays you will find anywhere. Then grab a great sub or sandwich at the end of the hall at The Southern Engine Deli. Food was decent, service was great, location is unique but interesting and fun. I was told the sandwich came in sourdough (I am a huge fan of sourdough) but the bread it came on tasted like white bread. Also it wasn't toasted (my fault, I kind of assumed when they said sourdough because who eats non-toasted sourdough) so it kind of ruined the sandwich in my opinion. The chips options are limited if you want baked or something less caloric, but overall the restaurant itself is about average for a sandwich shop. read more

I took the Mediterranean veggie sandwich. I would recommend to change the bread. Bread they comes with is gets too soggy fast and it's hard to eat in holding the the sandwich. Rest of the sandwiches looks good except veggie sandwich. Very disappointed and was over 10dollar. I don't think it's worth the price. Not recommended. read more

Great customer service. Generous portions, high quality ingredients. Collectively, they made for a welcoming experience and there was a lot of hospitality. The customer service is awesome. You feel like friends the moment you start ordering. Stacey tries to learn everyone's names, how they learned of the place, and what connections they have to the building. After 5-10 min upon receiving your food, the staff came around and asked if we needed anything else and whether we were enjoying our food. Generous portions - You could easily have leftovers for later. During my 3PM visit, the guy in front of me saw his sandwich and said "I'm going to need a to-go box, too." It's at least 25-30% larger than any of the chain stores' sandwiches. Awesome sandwich - I had the french dip, and this was the 1st time that I can remember that I didn't need au jus. The meat was tender and flavorful. The melted cheese complimented the meat, and I just let it sit on my tongue for an extra minute to enjoy that taste. As Johnny points out, the price point might not be for everyone. Sandwich with chips and beverage will run you $13-15, but if you split the sandwich into 2 meals (definitely do-able) and value that personalized customer service experience, I see this place as part of my Nashville favorites. Finally, take a walk around the building and enjoy the collection of niche stores. read more

Easily one of the best sandwich experiences I've had. Southern Engine piles on the high-quality meat and combines the sandwich ingredients to perfection. The side pickle spear is crisp and traditionally tasty. Price and value intersect accordingly. Check out the right side of the menu for the specialty sandwiches. I had the SEC and it was amazing. Still pretty new to the Nashville food scene - with some kinks to work out i.e. No cups for water so I had to buy bottled and menu said macaroni salad, but they don't serve it? Regardless. Quick service for lunch. I had the Paisano.. it was pretty good. I've had tastier sandwiches before, though the balsamic was on point. Potato salad... again pretty good, but nothing that blew me away. My friend had the Italian Beef and that was wayyy better than what I ordered. It was nice having a place where we could relax, hang out, and take in some of the Nashville experience. Definitely had a great time here. I hit the road, but couldn't resist sampling the bacon/cheddar pretzel on the way; it was phenomenal. The muff was perfection. Round "pretzel-ish" roll studded with sesame seeds, stuffed with meat, cheese and olive salad, and wisely cut into 4 pieces (a 1/4 of the Sammy was a sufficient lunch for me, along with the first class potato salad). If I was to say any negative, it would be diner omelets are cooked eggs with ingredients shoved in and not the way you have them at a 5 star hotel.
