The food here has changed since the original owners had left. The decorations was drap and contrite. There was no wait staff available for dine in. I would have given them no stars if I could. The owner of the place is so rude and disrespectful to his customers it's ridiculous. After a pretty rough day, all I wanted was some crab legs so I went to the Southerncrab in Desoto like I normally would when I want crab legs. When I got there and ordered my drink, I asked for no ice. When I got it, there was ice in the drink. That's strike one but I let it slide because that is minor. When I ordered my food, I asked for the sauce on the side. When I got the food, the sauce was on the crab legs. That's strike two, but I let that slide too because I was going to dip the food in the sauce anyways. When I ate ONE LEG, I got so nauseous. That wasn't even strike three. Let me tell you strike three. I had just decided I was going to go home. I wasn't going to ask for a refund or anything. I told the waitress I wanted the check, the food made me feel sick. She went behind the counter and told the owner that the food made me nauseous. The owner said not very quietly "BULLSHIT". He came over to the table and said once the food is cooked, there is no refunds, that is nothing I can do for you. That was strike three. First of all, I didn't ask for a refund. Second of all, I been coming here for like 3 or 4 years at this point. There is no way in hell that you should be that disrespectful to any customer, especially a loyal customer. I have brought people to this joint. Those people do not care about their customers at all. I literally have their number saved in my contacts list. So being originally from the East Coast (NYC), when my wife and I decided to venture out and look for some true authentic seafood, and came across this little place. In such a city where franchises reign, we were excited to give this mom and pop place a shot! Came in for lunch on a Friday: First, the decor is really homey, their are wooden benches and the decor is "cute" (I think the theme is as if you're out in the sea..). The size of the place isn't the biggest but from what it seems, it appears to better known for its take out. Ton of customers were in and out during our meal. The shrimp basket combo and the crab legs were our favorites, the sauce they said was made in house which was excellent! The prices were really cheap considering seafood is usually a bit more pricey. My wife got the catfish basket which tasted really fresh and crispy. Negatives: tried calling ahead and their phone seemed to be out of service but was told they are fixing it and getting a new number. The employees were really friendly and enthusiastic. Appears to be under new management, we saw people training and a lot of people in and out that looked like new employees. My family was in town visiting and I decided to treat them to a crawfish dinner. This place was great. I showed up, ordered my crawfish by the pound and they loved it!!!! I realized that after I ate my food...I ordered a singe catfish for $4 and our waitress brought me a half of a single catfish lol. I'm so excited that this place opened! This place has everything a good seafood place in the south needs! Good crawfish, crab legs, and shrimp, good spices, great catfish and a great atmosphere! I came here with my family and ordered a little bit of everything! We had lbs of crawfish, snow crab legs, and the shrimp! I would say they star of this place was the sauce! It was thick with a great Louisiana aroma, it's not just a hot sauce drenched in cayenne pepper, but it has a serious depth that goes deeper than garlic. I would recommend first timers to start off with a lb of shrimp! They're huge and absolutely delicious! The catfish was also a giant filet, I only ordered one piece, but next time I'm gonna try the basket which includes 3 catfish, fries and hush puppies for only $10.. Ok, so my wife and I eat out a lot! We have tried many seafood restaurant around DFW and I must say that the shrimp boil here is on par with the best in the Dallas area. The shrimp are large and flavored to my liking every time. We have tried other places but keep coming back to Southern Crab restaurant... My mom and I were in search of catfish on a Saturday afternoon, so we decided to stop by Southern Crab. The first thing that welcomed us was the sound of blasting music roaring with profanity. That was our prelude to the professionalism that we would face. The hostess greeted us with coldness "For here or to go?" At that point we opted for takeout. The servers were rapping behind the counter while we were attempting to place our order. The young lady that was serving us had to ask them to stop so she could hear our order. My mom had the 3 pc fried catfish basket ($10). I originally wanted the chicken tender basket, but I was told that they were out of chicken (it was only 2:00 in the afternoon), so I had the fried shrimp basket with Cajun fries ($8). The wait was not bad, but after our food had been sacked the cook came from the back, opened our sacks, and proceeded to punch holes in the top of our containers with a pair of scissors. It threw me completely off! After a short ride to my mom's home, we were able to sample our food. The catfish had a god flavor, but it had already lost the crunch, and the shrimp was crunchy, but dry. My Cajun fries had good flavor, but they were soggy. I'll give it a while before trying it again. Maybe it will improve with time and a little tweaking. read more

I went to Southern Crab which is in Desoto off of Hampton, it wasn't my first time, I've been there plenty of times and had wonderful experiences and the food was to die for.....well I found out last night that they have new management, new cooks, new everything. With the new ppl they decided to close an hour early, which is not noted ANYWHERE. On the door it still says that they close at midnight on Saturdays. We got there a little before 11. Not bc we wanted to eat so late just bc but we had things to do before we got there and we live so far from it. Anyway, the waitress sucked so bad, but she said she was new so we let her make it and tried to work with her, learning something new can be challenging, I get it. Well we received the bill before we received our food. Problem number 1. Inside of the establishment it was freezing. Which was unnecessary bc the temperature outdoors had already began to drop, we decided to eat outdoors and one of the 6 picnic tables. After the food FINALLY came out, she goes inside and is turned around by La jefa to tell us that "She wants y'all to pay right now." Problem number 2. Before she could get a response she walks away. My hands were filthy, I wasn't about to dig in my purse at that moment so I kept eating. She came back to check if we paid yet, nope. But one of my friends grabbed the book to get ready to pay and he sees that the bill is one big bill. So he tells her it needed to be separate bills so she takes the check back in. Moments later she comes back with separate bills and walks away. When we look at it we notice it's all messed up. So once she came back AGAIN we tell her and she says "Oh she messed it up" and as she is walking away to let "her" fix it I hear an "f bomb" being dropped. Problem number 3. She took so long to come back out I let her make it on that one. Problem 4. Since they decided to close earlier than what the posted sign says they take the trash out a the horrible waitress locks the door. But the trash boy isn't back inside yet so I wait. After she opens the door for him I ask "if you're locking the door, how am I supposed to wash my hands?" *blank stare* the trash boy then says "they're right there, is that what you're talking about" pointing at the paper towels on our table. "Uhh, no! My hands are filthy and a paper towel won't get the job done do y'all have wipes we can use since you're locking the door?" Waitress walks in and comes out standing in the doorway "no we don't have wipes" and closes the door. So we continue eating, but by now I am no longer interested in eating anything else from these ppl. The "boss" decides to have the waitress bring us CLOROX WIPES to clean our hands with. As the waitress is bringing them I'm looking at her crazy and asking "so my hands look like a table now?" She hands them to me and walks away. As I decided to leave I left the waitress a little extra work to do and left her NO TIP. Do ppl not realize that if you treat your customers badly, then you won't be very happy after the transaction ends? If you don't like people, don't get a job in customer service.
