I did a wine bus tour for my Bachelorette in Asheville and this was our final stop. It was a fantastic last stop. We were a group of 10. I loved the atmosphere. There was live music and a lot of shaded patio seating as well as lawn seating. We were able to wander through the vineyards if we wanted. They had plenty of single stall gender neutral restrooms too. We got a large table in the patio and got two white wines and a rose. Our table really liked the rose. We had a lovely time at this vineyard. I thought it was such a lovely touch that they gave me chocolate truffles too! Came here on a weekday afternoon with a group of 12, and they were EMPTY. Like, we were the only people here. Lovely open indoor seating with windows GALORE to enjoy the beautiful scenery outside. It was freezing during our visit, but they also had really nice outdoor seating as well - it would've been perfect with better weather. They offer a nice self-directed wine-tasting with 4 different types of wine. Perfect for those who like a bit less interaction. Grabbed a bottle of their Traminette - light and refreshing. So good we ended up buying a second bottle to bring back to our hotel. Would've bought more if we were checking our luggage. Wish they shipped to our state. Service was a bit of a miss. Staff weren't very friendly and even seemed cold to some of our party. Overall, good wine and gorgeous setting. read more

Be advised: Kids are not allowed on the *property*, not just at the bar. We've been here a few times and the wines are great. The staff are hit or miss--we've had exceptional service and we've had kind of *weird* service. Quick remarks, pretty intense awkward staring, things of the sort. The location is gorgeous once you get down that super steep hill of an entrance though, and every time we've been they've had live music which is always fun. This place is absolutely gorgeous! Love the open air concept of the tasting room. Plenty of seating to view the gorgeous mountains and grape vines. Staff was friendly. Bathrooms clean. All the wines on their flight menu are dry, I'm not the biggest fan of dry but they were still good. And they have guest wifi, and thankfully because signal can be a bit spotty out there. Another impressive vineyard in the area, SWV features an open-air tasting room (but don't worry, they have cool vinyl walls that they lower in colder weather), producing a cool, relaxed vibe. They specialize in eastern and Central European grapes (lemberger, regent, Gruber) which they pair with cab franc and Cynthiana. They offer a white flight and a red flight. I chose the red, and I really enjoyed everything. Not on the flight was the More Shenanigans, a blend of lemberger, cynthiana, regent, and cab franc. It's a tart, juicy, lighter bodied red that shouldn't be ignored. Prices are fair, and the service was great. Souther is a real must try in the area! read more

Had such a fun day at Souther Williams! My group did the hike and sip tour, which the owners were nice enough to host for us on a Monday. The tour was very informative and it was so nice getting to see the property and learn about the grape varietals. Angela was so kind to our group and provided us with a ton of pictures to celebrate the day. The wines were great and we enjoyed a full glass and some charcuterie when we got back from our tour. The rollercoaster-like drive from the road onto the main driveway was just the beginning of the fun of Souther Williams. Located in a lovely little nook of gorgeousness right off the road, it is one of the nicest, laid-back, and loveliest little spots we visited during our stay in the area. The tasting patio is ample and provides tons of shade for all the gorgeous humans and dogs who love hanging out with wine people. There was a food truck out back featuring lobster bowls and other foods that fit all array of dietary categories. Well played, food truck people. The food paired well with all the wine being poured. Fanciest flights I've seen in a while. We were invited to go check out the bathrooms, which each featured a different theme. My favorite was the large one with the handles near the toilet. Sometimes it helps to have that extra boost. The bathroom soaps were very lovely. I remember smelling my hands for quite a while after. So nice! Tons of really great spots to snap pics, sip wine, or gander at the surroundings. The wine was good too. read more

This was our second trip to Souther Williams and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed the owners tasting experience which is a 5 wine tasting paired with tapas. What a treat! The owners Ken and Angela treated us like royalty! The wines were so delicious, the food pairings were 5 star gourmet and the views from their house overlooking the vineyards were breathtaking! We stopped at Souther Williams after picking up an advertisement at the Asheville Airport. We were a little skeptical when our GPS stated that we had reached our destination given the steep hill at the entrance. Please do not let that deter you because I am very happy that we ventured down that hill! We sat in the tasting room with several other groups enjoying the beautiful weather in different seating arrangements. There were chairs beneath the cover of the open-air tasting room and Adirondack chairs, small benches, and other tables located outside and overlooking the vineyards. There were threats of sprinkles so the staff zipped up the vinyl walls of the tasting room and we moved further inside, which did not deter our good time. During our stay, there was also a live musician playing which was a nice touch. As lovers of white wine, we decided to try the White Flight. We very much enjoyed the Spontaneous and Gruner. While sitting in the Tasting Room, we met Angela, one of the proprietors, who was incredibly kind and made the Tasting Room feel like home. Angela pushed us to try a different vintage of one of the wines, which was completely different from the one that we tasted in the flight, and explained to us how to tell the difference between the two vintages by taste and by eye. We also got a charcuterie board, which was good. As a lover of olives on a cheese board, my only feedback would be that the saltiness and brininess of an olive would be welcome alongside cheese, meat, dried fruit, and crackers rather than a chocolate-covered almond dipped to look like an olive. Overall, I loved, loved, loved Souther Williams. The wine was excellent. The hospitality was excellent. The ambiance was excellent. Souther Williams is a wonderful place to spend a day and I cannot wait to recommend it to others visiting the area. read more

Disappointed.. no real tasting, glass of wine very expensive and bottles of wine also way too expensive for what it is. We still ordered a glass of red wine, forgot which one, and it was just ok. The live music was bizarre. They guy just kept talking and interjecting into peoples conversations. When he stopped playing it was so quiet because he sort of "ruled the atmosphere".. I think he was hamming it up with the owners too. It was uncomfortable and I wanted to leave but it was a setting where if we left right away it was noticeable, I really believe this guy would have said "you just got here, where are you going?" Like I said, bizarre.. I will say some there were really enjoying the entertainment so maybe it just wasn't for me. This place is gorgeous! Huge covered area and plenty of seating for small and large groups in the covered and uncovered areas as well. The scenery is beautiful, and the wine was great. The staff at the winery was amazing. Helpful, fun, friendly. You could tell they enjoyed working there. You can bring your leashed dogs, which is a huge plus in my book. No one under 21, so no children allowed. We will definitely go back. This place ticks all the boxes! read more

What a pleasant surprise this place is! My partner and I were wanting to go to a winery in the Hendersonville area today (we live in Fletcher), and we stumbled upon Souther Williams during our search. It was only 8 minutes from our home, so we decided to try it out. It turned out to be a gorgeous spot nestled in the mountains, with a more-than-pleasant staff who answered all of our questions and made us feel right at home! If you're a fan of white wines, particularly Rieslings, you have to try the "Spontaneous"! And the best part: Dogs are allowed! Our two poodles were given water, treats, and plenty of pets while we were there! We will definitely be back many times I'm sure! Side note: kids are not allowed at this vineyard, but honestly if you don't have any kids, I'm sure you will appreciate this rule! read more

Setting aside the beautiful legacy property on which the winery resides, and spacious open-air tasting venue that is inviting and comfortable, the wines are the undeniable stars of this show. Owner, Ken Parker has managed to produce both red (Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Franc) and white varietals (Vidal Blanc, Traminette, Gruner Veltliner) of such high quality that neither my wife nor myself would ever expect to find so far south of the Finger Lakes region of western, upstate NY. Excited that Souther Williams is the 7th winery of the crest of the Blue Ridge, Henderson County and that they are growing unique varietals such as Blaufrankisch, Saperavi and Regent and not to leave out Gruner Veltliner.
