We just completed a successful move with South Valley Movers thanks to Ken with the capable help from Brodie. They took our job on short notice and worked hard to move us and to help relieve our anxiety. At the arrival end, we didn't make it easy for them since there was some furniture already there - several work around. They packed up our house very securely and efficiently. They loaded the trucks on Tuesday and moved us from Mt Shasta to San Diego - they were there ready to unload by Thursday morning. They moved us in and took some excess to a storage unit - all done by noon ! I was very impressed. W We enjoyed their banter with us as well - helped to ease our tension. This was insane. I have never encountered a "professional" with such a horrible demeanor. The first red flag was the phone call. He seemed irritated with even taking my call. I needed help moving my elderly neighbor that was in a difficult situation. It was for heavy furniture only. No boxes. I sent pictures of said furniture and then he increased his rate. Fine. When he arrived his attitude was shocking. Ken is rude, condescending with some serious complex superiority. That man never stopped complaining. We hired Kan and his team for our move in date and they did a phenomenal and very professional job all round. Such lovely and considerate people, they treated our things with exceptional care. Our home has quite a few stairs in front and they made everything look so easy. We had multiple pieces of furniture that movers usually balk at, and they didn't miss a beat, flawlessly maneuvering them into place. Ken expertly organised the offloading and they got the job done in half the time I had imagined it taking. We have moved internationally over 12 times over the last 30 years and I haven't seen a more a more efficient crew in all that time and such a reasonable price for all the work they did. I nearly gave Ken (the owner of South Valley Movers) a 3-star rating and recommendation, updating my review before reading his comment. That said, my precious review still holds true; Ken definitely does not have a particularly lovely "moving side manner", and I was already warned by others that he can be 'rude and obnoxious'. His 1-star reviews speak for themselves and I recommend you read them. Admittedly, they scared me off at first, but I tend to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, so I called him initially to find out his availability. I immediately noticed that he didn't seem to like to listen. He also came across as a bit condescending. I would have ignored that, but given my elderly mother has some cognitive challenges, I didn't want to chance it upsetting her, and hired Almighty Movers (out of Oregon) instead (a month prior to the move). When Justin of Almighty Movers cancelled the move 2.5 days (claiming I haggled over the price; a lie I have proof of) my mother and I were in a pickle. She was deadlined to be out of her apartment Nov 30th, so I called Ken, who albeit complaining about it, said he would 'bail (me) out'. I had no issue with his quote being higher than what he would usually charge (especially knowing it was last minute). I was grateful that he made himself available and happy to pay it. I did my best to ignore his attitude. I was even willing to be pay him in full prior to the move, which Ken insisted on. He wanted payment in cash which I didn't have, so he suggested a check. I asked if I could pay via Venmo or a direct bank transfer. Instead of accepting that, he asked my mother to pay him, who didn't remember having that conversation with Ken almost immediately after he said they agreed on it. I tried to explain her condition to him, so I could pay him instead. My mother's deadline to be out of the apartment was by late afternoon the next day. We luckily had gotten much of the packing done but there was still a couple of pieces of furniture, and quite a few heavy boxes we wouldn't be able to move ourselves, and some packing still to do. (I had hired Almighty Movers for the bulk of the move). Ken knew our situation but told me to be fruitful and multiply - not in those words - and hung up the phone, cancelling the move, less than 24 hours before my mother's move out deadline (Nov. 30th). Both of us were in tears. Although Ken did not communicate it, I gather the last minute move wasn't possible for him, as he seemed stressed from the get-go. He didn't want to hear any details about what I considered important about the move. When I texted that it wasn't necessary to tell me to f*#%-off, he said it wasn't directed at me. A short while later, he brought by a handful of small packing boxes he said we would need (& he was right). He insisted we do not pay him for them and said he could move us December 1st &/or 2nd; a day or two AFTER my mother's move out deadline. We insisted on paying him knowing that wasn't possible and he insisted that the boxes were a gift and that he was available on the 1st or 2nd. Since we needed to move before that, I cannot comment on how Ken would have been as our mover. His other reviews comment on that. I know he moved a friend of mine out of her 1-bedroom apartment charging less than half of what he quoted my mother & I (but every move is different). My friend said he was incredibly rude and condescending but that he did a great job with the move. I think he deserves browny points for delivering the small boxes, and offering to handle the move in the end, even if it was after we had to be out. I don't think he thought we could be and if it wasn't for two amazing moving angels - not listed on Yelp (yet!), who came to our aid last minute, we probably would not have managed it without hiring Ken. He must have realized that too. So while he may not be a bit socially inept, i appreciate that he was willing to show up - especially when a professional, better-rated mover was not. Maybe he would have done as 'professional' of a job as he claimed, maybe not. His rating went down because he cancelled last minute and because he lied in his rebuttle. I was going to end this review saying that if you can overlook his demeanor, I imagine hiring him as a mover, might be a good move (pun intended). Almighty Mover essentially admitting they cancelled because the job was too far away. (I found out latter they had a bigger, higher paying paying local job), and hiring out of state movers is more expensive. For these reasons, Ken is probably a better choice, but after reading all of his reviews and his untruthful comment on my previous review, I'm not so sure of this either. I just wrote a bad@$$ review and it got deleted when it tried to post. So I'll try to remember what I said and do this again: I hired Ken and his team to help me move across the county. I moved from a 1br/1ba with a garage to a new house I just purchased. These guys are MASTERS of their craft! I couldn't believe how they managed to get all of my stuff in that truck! They took the best care of my belongings, everything was padded and secured, and came out on the other end without even a single scratch. They were both very nice, respectful (to me AND each other) and had great attitudes. They were such a pleasure to work with, and I literally could not have pulled off that move without their services. They were so affordable, and it was unbelievably nice to have their efficiency and expertise. If I ever have to move again (may it be many years in the future) I will absolutely hire them again! read more

NEVER AGAIN! Please find another mover in Siskiyou County! This is the 2nd time I have used Ken Abbott's South Valley Movers. 1st time - February 2017 - At that time, no issues other than the dude, Ken, is a little odd. I even referred him to my friend for her move several months later. The 2nd time I used him was 5/31/2018 to move out of the same place he moved me into. This time he was EXTREMELY RUDE to me. Let me provide exact details...When I called, no issue and he had no specifics for me. The day before the move he asked that I buy some "twine" like clothesline and if I had moving pads. I was in a moving truck when he called, towing a trailer but pulled off to purchase the twine. I had already rented 24 moving blankets. When he arrived on moving day, I showed him what I bought and he laughed and said "that is useless" and told me exactly how it was the wrong twine. I asked if I should go run and buy something else and he said no, I'll just use what I have and charge you for it. (Ok, no problem). Then he proceeds to complain about the Penske truck I rented. Mind you, this is a brand new 16 foot truck and looks fine to me! He then looks at the moving blankets and lectures me that Penske blankets are too small and 1/2 the size of Uhaul's. THEN Ken proceeds to lay out one of my blankets on the ground and walk over to the Uhaul truck he drove and grab a Uhaul blanket to lay right next to the Penske blanket so I could "see" exactly what the difference is...Let me just say, I'm a college educated woman and when you tell me it's half the size, I can figure out what that means without a visual aid. So, he's obviously annoyed by all my choices in moving at this time and says "well, let's go inside and see what you've got." We proceed inside and I mention "you moved me into this place a year ago, do you remember?" His answer is "No." I said "I also referred you to my friend who used yo (Not even a thank you for repeat business or the referral- he makes no comment). I say jokingly "I'm going to put my useless twine over here if you need it." He then tells me how I could have gotten the correct twine at Penske because they sell it there. (Now, when he requested the twine (day before move) I am near Medford already in the Penske truck, towing a trailer, driving on the I 5 so I pulled off and tried to find what he asked for.) I told him this and said "if you would have told me this 2 weeks ago when I first scheduled you, I would have had time to do that, but telling me the day before didn't help." So he aggressively replies "SO THIS IS MY FAULT?" And I say "well, you're being a jerk about it." Holy hell...that unleashed a BEAST! He literally chased me down my own stairs and says "you're calling me names now? Now we're going to have a conversation!" I say, no, it's fine, let's just get to work...and he refuses, crosses his arms and says "not until we talk about this because now you've upset me! I'm 62 and I've been moving for 30yrs and it's not my fault you're unprepared!" I then ask "can we just get to work please?" And he throws his arms in the air, paces around my room and says "NO, I don't know if I even want to do this job now! I should just leave you in the lurches and let you figure it out!" He then storms out of my house, and made some comment about Roseanne losing her job for opening her mouth. He then goes & sits in the back of my Penske truck with his partner (Brody, who was wonderful by the way!!) and said to him "no, stop, we're not doing anything! I don't even know if I want to do this job. She's calling me names!" He continues venting to Brody for another few minutes. So I walk to the truck and it has now started raining. I ask if we can get started and Ken replies "I don't move in the rain" and proceeds to sit in my truck watching the rain for another few minutes. At this point I am dumbfounded. I keep my comments to myself although he has been highly disrespectful to me, his customer and beyond UNPROFESSIONAL. A few minutes later he rolls out a skid free walkway for the ramp and he starts the job (in the rain). Unwrapping my furniture at the other end, I found that he used packing tape directly on my furniture which took some of the finish off...see pictures. Granted, it was on the back of the furniture but, had he used plastic wrap that wouldn't have caused damage and I offered to provide more blankets!! For a guy who has been doing this 30 years, it sure doesn't seem like it and he made an already stressful move far more stressful for me. This behavior is not at all what a professional mover should act like, more what I would expect from a adolescent! Ken clearly needs some therapy or anger management. read more

DO NOT USE south valley movers. Ken was nice at first then became extremely unprofessional. Our stuff was broken,stolen,urinated on and hidden in random boxes. The old home was left super dirty from their shoes and dirty hands. He underestimated the size of the job even after coming to estimating twice what he would need. He assured us he could hook up appliances at the new home then told us it was too complicated to do claiming we had a special type. It's a front loader washer and dryer standard and a sleep by numbers bed. Both of which he saw during his two visits prior to moving and said he had hooked and set up hundreds of appliances and beds like ours. He lost the checks that we gave him at the end of the move and then began threatening us with police reports. Clearly he is not educated in the time frame for payment after services even with the checks being lost. We resubmitted them to him in a timely manner. (Keep in mind we have no phone chargers because he packed them in random boxes out of spite and we don't yet have mail boxes for communication) Not our fault he's irresponsible. We resubmitted his payments in a timely manner despite his threats. There was no legitimate reason to file a report at that time. Basically empty threats to intimidate. He yells at senior citizens making a scene and making her cry at her new home. Smokes and swears on the job. He offered $75 to replace an expensive vase that he broke then said the credit came out of the materials fee. We were charged double for the materials. There goes the $75. Not that it would cover the broken appliances. He was extremely rough with all of our appliances and they don't work properly now. The invoice math is wrong. He just rounds up his prices. Extremely unprofessional. If you enjoy dealing with a man child he's perfect. Too bad I can't give negative stars. read more

I meant to update this as soon as I moved, but such is life in a fixer-upper! I was unhappy with the the two different quotes I received by phone from the most popular moving company in Yreka - the trash company - so I kept looking for a mover. South Valley Movers was definitely the better choice. I started with a 4 star rating, and I've upgraded them to 5. The owner of this company was one of the two guys that did my move. Both men were both clean and professional, and on time. They were friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy their their work. Both movers were kind and helpful and even offered to pack up some of the loose stuff in the spare wardrobe boxes I had, if I wanted to. I definitely accepted because I knew only too well that I wouldn't return the boxes for a refund. They were organized and diligently worked both loading and unloading the truck, including moving furniture and boxes upstairs in my new home, and they took care to ensure that they didn't damage anything. When they had finished and we were wrapping up, the time it took to move was exactly the minimum charge - so there was no extra fees for me. Thank you South Valley Movers! read more

I would like to advise any future/possible customer(s) against using Ken with South Valley Movers. I am writing this review on behalf of a few people, including myself, that have interacted with him more than once. From my own experience, and in talking with others, he is a very condescending and unpleasant person to work and interact with. In my experience he does not take ownership of his actions or faults - instead he is explosive, and places blame elsewhere. He has been extremely rude to his customers, and has even brought one of his customers to tears. All of my interactions with him as a representative of his company have been negative and damaging to this company's reputation. I recently moved from Mt Shasta to Amador County - 300 miles away. South Valley Movers were exceptional in accomplishing the move. They had two friendly experienced movers, loaded and unloaded very quickly, with absolutely no breakage. They had ways of protecting TV and statuary that made me feel very comfortable.They cheerfully put items where I asked them to - including the garage and porch - in my new home. I have moved frequently and have come to know what to expect. South Valley exceeded my expectations and were reasonable in price. I did a lot of price comparison and they were right on the mark. Hurried, harried move. The owner had booked another job and was in a rush. He made us pay him before he finished unloading and then was very rough with everything and was upset when we asked him to put specific boxes in certain places.
