I…read moredon't really have words for what an unbelievably incompetent and pathetic job they did, but I will try. Our house was in escrow (still owned by the seller) when they sent out their workers. The two workers they sent uncovered the top of our septic tank, but BROKE BOTH CEMENT CAPS in the process of locating the tank with their poke bars, and then tried to hide this fact! When they were confronted with this fact, all they would say was "there's nothing we can do about this today." They would not fix or replace the cement caps, nor discuss the matter further--they just ignored the serious damage they did to the seller's property. Then, they botched the pumping. The company had sent a truck with a broken (or partially broken) pump, and they were not able to completely pump out both sides of the tank. Again, the workers tried to hide the fact by hurriedly replacing one of the (broken) caps. Finally, when we had made the appointment for this pumping and inspection, we requested (and this company had promised) to do a test of septic function by sending a septic engineer/specialist to evaluate the rate of flow through the leach lines. They gave us the name of the person who would be doing this, but he never showed. Instead, one of the workers (who clearly had no idea what he was doing) took a quick 5-second look inside the tank and then stated "it's working perfectly!" The workers called back to the central office, when they were done. They must have mentioned to the woman in the office some of what had transpired, because one of the workers said that the office had ordered that we must pay them on the spot, instead of billing escrow. The woman in the office must have realized that they did such a poor job that if we were given the chance to think about what their company had done they might have a problem. We did pay (and probably should not have). We moved up here from the bay area, and this "pumping and septic inspection" was done immediately before close of escrow and we did not have the chance to square things with the seller or get this incredibly botched "pumping and inspection" done by someone else. This company completely let us down, when we needed them most. No employee standards, and no concern for the quality of their work at all. Call someone else--anyone else.

I just finished up a three-phase septic/D-box project with Davis Excavating. The first part…read moreinvolved pulling the lid of the septic tank, pulling a root mass, sealing the lid/tank joint and backfilling. The second part was replacement of the D-box and a portion of the manifold. This work was perfectly executed. Then came the tricky part. Significant root intrusion had occurred downstream, at the manifold/infiltrator connections. Only four of the five lines were taking effluent. We field-engineered a new connection strategy for the uppermost infiltrator run which gave us two active lines and most importantly bought time. I engineered a new connection scheme using old and new infiltrator chambers. Raul advised me on how to work with the County to modify the permit. Raul then came back to the site, excavated the old chambers, fit the new and made the manifold connections. Then backfilled and graded to landscaping standards. Outcomes like this are only possible when you are working with a top-line professional. On top of this, the pricing was very fair. Surprises from septic systems are never fun, but when you have a resource like Davis Excavating, you can tackle the problem knowing you are going to get the best result. Robert Weber, P.E.

I cannot adequately praise the quality of the work done by Raul and feel very fortunate that West Coast Concrete has such a skilled excavator that they can call upon for excavation work. They exchanged our electric cooktop/range with propane which was no simple task. Both projects were completed in minimal amount of time with very little disruption. Five Stars may not be enough…read more I met Kirk Jones (recommended by friends) in 1993 , when my wife and I wanted to remodel our kitchen, which dated from the 1970s and looked like it. We hired a kitchen designer, but finding a contractor we thought we could trust was not an easy task. Kirk looked at the design, and then went under the house to check on utilities services and, I think, the overall soundness of the foundation, flooring, etc. Other contractors we met did not do that. He was not afraid to get his hands (and clothes) dirty to know as much as he could about the structure he would work with. We hired him. When construction began, he set up a temporary "kitchen" in our adjoining dining room so that we would not have to move out. The project came in essentially on budget even though we added a few "extras." He coordinated all the subcontractors and the kitchen came out beautifully. We have never had a construction problem and the kitchen remains as beautiful today as when it was completed. But more than that, when from time to time we have had things break, like a faucet or a garbage disposal, we call him and he comes to help. Ten years later, we decided to update our three bathrooms. We used Kirk again. He did the project in two stages so that we would always have a working bathroom. In the remodeling process, he discovered that the builder had made some errors, including false ceilings in two bathrooms. He fixed the issues. He also made a number of little changes and improvements, like grab bars that maybe weren't needed then but which I need now--he was right. Next was a remodel of our kids' long-out-grown play room next to our family room into a TV room wired for surround sound. He opened up the space so that it became an extension of the family room. The architect designed the room for better TV viewing with cabinetry to house the electronics against a wall behind is a storage area The cabinets were left open in the back, and Kirk built a small set of doors in the adjoining storage area behind the system which allows us to easily reach the backs of all of the electronics. What a convenience that proved to be! We have heavy rain problems in the back and South sides of our house. Over the years, he has fixed those problems as well as others caused by original poor workmanship of the builder and other unavoidable issues. His goal is always to permanently and efficiently eliminate problems. Would I ever use another contractor? Not a chance!
